Forbes Mill Steakhouse - Los Gatos
Herb Crusted Chilean Sea Bass
zucchini pomodoro, purple potato wedges, beurre rouge
fresh garlic, parmesan, house made tartar, cocktail sauce
We eat quite often in Forbes Mill, it is out favorite Steak house. This time the appetizer and the steaks where not as good as expected
Food was amazing, they were able to accommodate us after changing the reservation twice on Friday, cancelling and then changing again on Saturday. Waitress was great also!
Our experience was wonderful! We were there to celebrate the birth of a grand baby! I’m currently plant based and the chef made an amazing vegetable medley with artichokes, beets, asparagus etc it was delicious and was presented beautifully. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
Food was excellent. Waitress was very good. Overall a great experience
Our server Ken was OUTSTANDING! Our steaks were perfectly prepared. We’ll be back.
It's been years since I have eaten there but it's just terrible now.
From the time I walked in the door till I left there was tension amongst staff. They were short, curt and were not attentive. What appeared to be the manager .was joking around with staff...I really felt there was suck a lack of appreciation for their customers.
I will not go back under present management.
This has become our birthday celebration place. They add a special menu tailored to your occasion. Steaks are amazing which is why we enjoy going there. Ambiance, service, food is all excellent here. My favorite is the ribeye!
We have dined at Forbes Mill a half dozen times or so. This dinner was the best (with the exception of the entree of the special prix fixe dinner). The steaks were great (thicker and perfectly cooked) - better than in the past. Our waiter (maybe Josh or Jeff) was really good. He took good care, even with our extra birthday requests.
Had a great time. Overall atmosphere (lighting) was a little dim. Could have been just a few lumens brighter.
Our first time to Forbes Mill. Parking was abundant, with reservations we were seated immediately. It was a bit chilly inside, AC in February evening. Everyone's dishes were timely and positively amazing from the lamb to the fish, but the real winners were the steaks. Among the best I have ever tried and I only eat quality meats. The beet salad stood out. The food was fresh and delicious. I wish they had highlighted the organic options and provided when asked for a menu with all ingredients in a dish, as we have many allergies at the table, but I was familiar with some of my favorite farms. The only disappointment was the cheesecake, which stayed nearly untouched. The staff seemed very young, but professional, although the hostess and women servers were all outrageously dressed as if going to a nightclub. I would definitely go back...just not with a rubbernecked uncle or my grandma.
The service was excellent! but the food was very very VERY underwhelming and lacked seasoning.
Went for a special occasion.
Food? Nothing to write home about. Meh. Both taste and presentation. Ordered - cheese plate, pear salad, portabella ravioli, prix fixe (lamb, fish, fillet mignon) and two desserts. A bottle of sparkling and a wine flight. So be it, another average forgettable restaurant I won't visit again. But, at $300 for two, service and ambience were total crap.
First of all, got seated on the side - I don't mind the seating, but that seems to be on the busy back of the restaurant to bar route. Waiters/busboys kept going by with barrels of something, trash cans, you name it, we saw it. I don't think we saw anyone trot by with a plunger, praise the Lord. At that price point, I don't want to see the inner workings of the restaurant.
We had to refill our wine glasses. Why was nobody watching? Beats me.
Crumbs were left on the table. Shouldn't they be cleaned up and table straightened out, empty bread basket removed or refilled? Nope. Not here.
The worst was the bar scene... There were multiple tacky looking ladies just standing around, trying to pick up the men who were sitting at the bar. Or at least get a free drink out of them. I am no prude, but there are places for that and if you want to have people coming and dropping some $ at your place, you should escort that crowd out. They neither pay to drink anything there, nor do they contribute any class to the scene. If you are aiming to be a dive bar, then yeah, go ahead and let them be.
Outcome: not going back. Nothing to justify the $ spent. I could forget the sad old cougar scene unfolding all night, but I can't forgive the lackluster food. Thumbs down.
service was excellent...including front desk plus the person who took us to the tabke and of course the server was great.
Awesome food, great service. Always a treat to eat there
They made it special by adding a Happy Anniversary message to our menu. Was the best steak I've ever eaten. Only negative is that the table was very small so felt crowded.
My wife and I had her birthday dinner here and the service and food were excellent. I had the Kobe beef which was amazing and she had the Monday Prix Fixe menu of a Filet and Lobster tail. They were both excellent. We also did the split veggies of Brussel Sprouts and Asparagus which was very good. The problem was we didn't save enough room for dessert which was a chocolate cake and Creme Brulee (but was ate some of it anyway). Great restaurant and someplace we will visit again when we are back in town.
I wouldn’t call it a value but what you would expect to pay for this quality and worth every dime! The cocktails were excellent, oysters fresh and tasty, the dry aged NY was cooked to perfection. The sea bass as perfect as well. The crisp was a nice finish.
A great place, for a great meal, whether you’re celebrating a special event or just seizing the day!
We were the noisy group, we had the private room and had a great birthday party. The room was wonderful and I'm glad the person I spoke to earlier suggestion it.
There service was wonderful!
Had my husband's birthday dinner here. If you request, they will personalize the menu with Happy Birthday on it. My husband loved this. We were seating within 5 minutes of our reservation time, and the service from handing us menus, to taking our orders and receiving our meals was just the right amount of time. My husband the NY Steak and I had the Filet Oscar and both were very good. Everything is a la carte (including the sauces) so expect to spend $$$ but the food was well worth it.
The food is unbelievable! The service was first rate! The noise level is a bit loud, but it you can still hear the other person.
Valentine’s Day dinner
Where the food was great and delicious our service was not anywhere near to what the ambiance and price point it reflects, food portion and taste was great but it needs to be followed by great service which we didn’t feel we received.
Great service and amazing food.
First time at Forbes.. service was great! The potato’s were amazing.. grass fed filet was okay.. the flavor of the spinach soaked on the meat, and that was not very pleasant honestly.. but overall it was a good experience.
Great service from all staff, food was expensive but food was amazing.
Everything was phenomenal!!! Especially our server, Gianna. She made our valentines date extra special with her great service! The only thing more phenomenal than our experience was my date, Bridget.
Always such a special delight to eat at Forbes Mill! The service is superb and the food is second to none! I enjoy going there especially for special occasions.
While I normally expect Valentines Day to lower the bar on the food and service at any restaurant, this was not the case for our visit. We were seated within about 5 minutes of our reservation time, and the service was quite good even with the restaurant bursting at the seams. Steaks were served exactly as ordered, and everything was timed well. We were very pleased with the dinners. The prix fixe menu was a little pricey that night, but we were quite happy with the standard menu offerings.
The food was fantastic as usual. At the price of food I expect exceptional service. I had to ask for water and refills. We were never asked how our food was once served. My husband asked for pepper on his salad and the waiter gave him one turn and left. Never asked if that was enough - and it was not! I wanted salt and no one was around to ask. Just a couple of examples. The restaurant was over crowded and when sitting in the aisle we were knocked by staff and customers. Yes it was v-day but that is not an excuse for poor service or over crowdedness. Not sure the great food was worth the poor service, we did not have a relaxing enjoyable dinner.
We got there first thing at 4pm, and for some reason there was a delay in our waiter getting to our table... All the other tables were getting served 10-15 mins before us, even though we were seated first. But after letting the host know, he took care of it immediately and had Paul (I believe was his name) wait on us, who was excellent. As it turns out, I guess there must have been some confusion on who was supposed to be our waiter. They more than made up for the delay with top-notch service and incredible food. We will be back for sure!
We celebrated Valentine's Day on Thursday and what a great idea! it was not crowded. The waiter was attentive and the meal excellent.
I have eaten here a number of times. As my guest said "Best Ribeye he had ever had". Service was prompt discreet and of course food was excellent.
Service was terrible. Server and bartender attitude not good, all older males. Restaurnat has gone down hill.
The service is A1, food is really delicious, and pricing isn’t too bad for what you get. Good for special occasions or a date. Decor is sort of stale and the crowd is 50+ for the most part.
Great service & food. However, for our romantic birthday dinner for 2, we were sat adjacent to the bar which was rowdy and a table of 8 who were also belligerent. The restaurant was not booked out, a little more thought could’ve gone into our seating for a $250 meal.
A delicious set menu experience with comfortable round table furniture and calming ambience.
It was a challenge to have a clear answer on what is the volume of wine consumed when ordering the $30 flight option.
The bill was presented without the offer of coffee or digestive, giving a sense of we’ve over stayed our welcome; we were the last to leave at 9.15pm.
I’m far from being a wine expert but was disappointed with the absence of options for the neighboring wineries.
The food was very good and we enjoyed the personal touches the restaurant provided as we were celebrating a birthday. The ambience was decent but the interior seemed a little dated. In particular, our table faced a dark curtain that had a large visible stain on it.
EXCELLENT! Want to go back asap! Delicious, great service.....enjoyed our romantic evening!
I came here on Friday for a surprise dinner for my boyfriend. We were seating immediately. The environment was classy yet fun and friendly. Everyone is the restaurant was clearly having a wonderful time. Our waiter came to us within minutes and gave us impeccable service! When we opened our menu’s I had found that had printed another menu with a title that wished by boyfriend Happy Birthday! It was an pretty amazing they had taken the time to do that. The food was wonderful. Probably one of the best meals I have had in a long while. Our entire evening here was soo pleasant and made my boyfriends birthday a little bit more special. I will be back to bring the rest of my family!
