Fresh on Bloor
I'm especially disappointed to find the composition of some of the dishes has changed --less amount and seem less wholesome and a lot more oil used, though the taste is still very good. I used to feel satisfied with a small bowl but now it leaves me feeling only half fed. I guess this is nothing new in many areas of the food industry. I'm not surprised they do it with the shrunken amount of ice-cream or breakfast cereals in each package one gets from the supermarket while the price stays the same, a disguised price increase, because that's what big corporations do. But a local business like Fresh?
Great service & enjoyed the organic white wine, the ice cream sundae and my protein bowl. The only downside was the noise level. We were there on a Friday night and it was packed but even so, the noise level seemed much louder than other places I’ve been that have been as packed.
Too loud and tables too close together. prices are high for portion size (lots of starch compared to veg); wanted to charge a dollar for cilantro which is a lot when paying $16 for a bowl.
Lovely! The sauces and dips are to die for, portions are generous. Love that bowls come in two sizes. What a fun place to share and try new things! I am not vegan and thoroughly enjoyed the food ( and margaritas!!)
Always a good experience. Food was delivered quickly, and was sooo delicious. Love taking my meateating friends here :)
The BEST. been going to fresh since 1992. I own two of their cook books. I love them. Flavour and quality.
I love this restaurant - always consistent friendly service and excellent food. I wish there were fewer harder surfaces - it's really really noisy and makes conversation pretty hard.
Delicious food as always- not an ideal spot for large groups but the food and service is top notch.
Too loud and cramped seating .............................................................
The only reason I will not return to this location is the noise level. Even though we came early for supper and the restaurant was less than half full, my guests and I had to raise our voices just to talk with one another. Do something about this (damping curtains, acoustic tiles?) or lose many customers. Although it is farther away, I will go to another of your locations next time because I really like your food and service.
Hi Janet, I'm so glad to hear that you enjoyed both your meal and the service that you received. You're right - Fresh on Bloor does tend to get noisy at peak times. While it works for some guests, we're glad that you've found another Fresh location that works better for you. They're all slightly different!
Glad I thought to make a reservation! Good luck walking in, it’s always packed! Our server was nice, attentive, knew the menu very well and was speedy. The atmosphere is very loud, with her having to repeat multiple things so we could hear but she did a great job. I always have the Buddha bowl on brown rice and it’s always exactly perfect..I just add more cilantro and marinated tofu and it keeps me stuffed all day. My mother in law had the cauliflower tacos and they looked great, but only 2 to a serving made it a very light meal. All in all I love fresh for a fast easy simple food lunch, but wouldn’t recommend for a date or anything fancy...
Hi! I'm so glad to hear about your experience with us. You were definitely smart to make a reservation - we do get busy! Did you know that we have four other locations in Toronto? Our Fresh on Front (at Church), and Fresh on Spadina (at Richmond) locations were both recently re-done and make excellent spots for a date night!
The past two times I have been there which has been in the past two months the service has been horrible. The servers are rude and unwelcoming!!
Hi Andrea - I'm so sorry to hear this. Can you please send us the details at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can work to remedy this with you?
Amazing food and service as usual.
Thank you so much!
Our server was curt and inattentive. The toast arrived cold, the tempeh was very salty, the scramble was bland and the fries had an abundance of small crispy shards instead of potato chunks. Overall it did not seem like a great experience or good value for the money.
Hi - I'm so sorry to hear about this experience. That sounds very disappointing. Can you please email this information to email@example.com? We'd really like to remedy this with you.
Rather disappointed as I love going to Fresh, but this time my wrap was soggy and tasteless. The buffalo sauce was basically water and soaked the wraps through. The wrap was cold and the chicken pieces were cold and dry. The whole meal was spoiled. Not going to visit the Bloor location anytime soon!
Hi Zuzana - I'm so sorry to hear about your most recent experience with us. That's definitely not how your Buffalo Wrap should have been made. Can you please write in with this info to firstname.lastname@example.org? We'd love the opportunity to remedy this with you so you can give us a second chance.
I've been to Fresh many times, but it's been a few years since I've dined there. The table we got was okay, I've never sat in the window seating with small chairs. It just seemed really really loud and small. The food was just okay, it didn't wow me like in the past. I think maybe we've been oversaturated with vegan/bowls/nuts and other salad types like this now are everywhere. So, it felt nice to be in the area, but I probably won't go back for a while.
Hi Sara - thank you for dining with us for such a long time. I'm sorry to hear that your most recent experience wasn't great. Can you please email this information to email@example.com? We'd love the opportunity to have you in again so you can give us another chance.
Fresh in the past year has changed drastically and is no longer the reliable joint I have been going to for the past 8 years. Not only did the prices increase, but the actual portions have downsized - A LOT. As a result, you no longer get the same value for your dollar. And on top of it all, the place is now just a vegan version of Jack Astors (except Jack Astors is more affordable. $18 for a burrito???) I understand the concept of expansion, but as a result of all of their changes, they will be losing their trusted long term customers.
Came here recently for a birthday brunch. It is a smaller space than the other Fresh locations that I have been to. The service and food were great. I'd definitely come back. I recommend a reservation as it gets really busy here for brunch!
I just love this restaurant! Great food options and wonderful service. It’s on my must visit list every time I’m in Toronto.
Food if great, though a bit pricey. Ambiance is hit and miss as it can be pretty loud. Got lucky this time with a booth, though there was a kid running around the restaurant the entire time which his mom seemed to be competitive okay with (not much the servers can do about this. Love this restaurant, will be back soon.
Good service and good food.
It seems the portion sizing for new menu items is super inconsistent. I first had the avocado toast (on sweet potato) at the Spadina location. It was terrific! I really enjoyed the sliced avocado served on top, and felt like I really got my money's worth for the meal. Unfortunately, at this location (Bloor), the avocado was more guacamole-style...smashed on the sweet potatoes, and maybe 4 tablespoons total. Such a miss.
Delicious, diverse flavour in the Buddha Bowl!
Delicious, diverse flavours in the Budha Bowl.
Reliable and frequently delicious vegetarian and vegan options in a lively (loud) spot very convenient to U of T. Friendly servers.
We love Fresh and frequent a number of their locations. Today's early dinner on Bloor was great because we managed to secure a booth - always better than table seating. The space is largely open and boisterous and the booth helps to make us feel more huddled and cosy. Food is always inventive and tasty.
I love this restaurant and the other locations as well! The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the food is always fresh and delicious.
Fresh never fails to impress. Love every dish I ever had and the staff are wonderful.
Unbearably cacophonous soundscape. Juicers constantly, tables too close together, crowded, loud conversations. no buffering to speak of. Too bad, because the food is good. Won't be going back except maybe for take-out.
The service was good, but I would recommend the staff wait for an answer from all or most of the party to their questions. They were knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. The food was very good and we didn't have to wait long to get it. I would go back.
I have always loved this location of Fresh--the menu is great, the servers are knowledgeable, and this time as I had asked for more comfortable/less cramped seating arrangements if possible, I was so glad they could accommodate that request. The food was excellent, high quality, the ambience was good, and overall, I enjoyed my experience.
Delicious food with an old friend
Very good dining experience. Wonderful plant based food. Great selection. I will be back.
Good food, a bit noisy for conversation
We had great food , great service - I was with older relatives and the young chap with the beard looked after us all very well.
The food was awesome we were so pleased. My husband had the beyond meet burger and said it was the best burger he ever had. I had the buffalo wrap and poutine it was so good. We also tried the mushroom coffee and rose lattee which both were fantastic. The staff was also very friendly. We would go back for sure but we are also glad we dont live close or we would spend all our money there lol.
I do love Fresh. The menu is great, lots of options, and the service is terrific with friendly and attentive servers. They even have a separate gluten free menu. Although I wish they offered a gluten free tortilla bread for their gluten free ‘unwraps’ to give the option of actual gluten free wraps.
The two things that stand in the way of the highest rating are:
1. It is too pricey for not enough food. For example, they recently raised their prices and a side called ‘tofu steaks’ gives you one 2”x 3“ tofu steak cut into two pieces, for $4.00. Seriously!!
2. When the place is busy, it is way way too loud. Not enough soft surfaces to absorb noise. So at busy times it isn’t a great date place because of the extreme din that kind of wears you down.
If those two issues can be addressed, Fresh on Bloor will be flawless.
Beyond Meat cheeseburger was delicious but $20 is a little expensive. The strawberry sundae is to die for!
The food is really tasty. The restaurant was super busy on a Wednesday night so we waited longer than ideal for our mains and it was slow to get our bill.
It was great! The food was good. It’s an excellent place for vegetarians and people who are open to different & healthy food choices.
Fresh is always great. It's been a staple for me since I went vegetarian in 2010. However, they recently changed their menu (I believe to go along with a rebrand) and it's not greatly stripped down. I couldn't find several of my favourite items. The cornbread was available with a couple of options, but not as a standalone app. The falafel salad was gone. I had the burrito and it was good, but I miss my old standards.
The room is quite packed and noisy, but that's to be expected for the busy resto - we sat at a booth and had no trouble.
