Gatsby by Windsor Arms

A friend recommended Gatsby and I booked a table for my wife and I on a Saturday evening.
We had a very nice evening in this restaurant, very quiet and nice atmosphere, the waiter was very efficient and nice, very good food.
We will go back.
Loved this place! Great ambiance, live music, service, and food. It's not crowded at all, so that makes it easy to talk to the person you're with since it's quiet, and the live music gives a nice elegant feel to the restaurant. The drinks were also spectacular, as was the food. Waiter was also very kind. Will definitely be coming back here.
One word - Amazing!!!
No I would not recommend this restaurant. It is old, tired and lost it’s charm. Food was not worth the value. It was in the highest price range of Winterlicous lunch menu so I expected it to be close to the other restaurants in that range. At least they could have cleaned the windows. Paint was chipped. Washroom was clean by lacked amenities from what I thought should be in a well respected hotel.
The hostess wasn’t very friendly so wasn’t a great start to our first time experience. We were seated in a back room where we weren’t able to enjoy the beauty of the decor in the main dining area - wish we could have been moved.
Two of us had the French onion soup with very different experiences, one was great and the other had no flavour, different consistency and colour. Main courses were okay, the best being the acorn squash vegan meal. Desserts were delicious. One of the servers hospitality and friendliness made up for majority of the experience however once he left our table was not checked on much, since we were tucked away in a back corner, and we felt abandoned. Ambience is beautiful, expect complete silence if you are placed in the back room.
I would visit again, however only to try their high tea, not to visit the Gatsby.
Great service and fun ambiance. The food was good but the mains were a bit simple. Portion size was good
Overall it was priced more for the name then the food
We had a reservation at The Gatsby but were seated in a different restaurant in the hotel without any explanation. When another diner questioned the server, she was told they rented out The Gatsby for a private function, but still took reservations. The Winterlicious menu was disappointing.
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Shall return to have afternoon tea sometime.
Great welcome by the friendly doorman. Lot of ambiance in this old hotel with great charm n character. We were celebrating grand parents anniversary. So it was the right fit. Food was delicious. Highly recommend the grilled salmon cooked just right. Those of us who tried steak thought it was superb. Their Okra appetizer was superb. Good wine at a very reasonable price. The very knowledgeable waiter topped it all with excellent service. Will definitely dine there again for most of our special occasions. Highly recommend it to those who want high quality.
Don’t mind my ratings , you go and have good time. Anyway, main course is tasty and as far as appetizers go, don’t be a fusion restaurant while you are not. Stay classic And gain respect.
When I made the reservation I mentioned that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Little did I expect to be greeted with "happy Anniversary" when we first arrived. This ocntinued, the waiter wished us a happy anniversary and then at the end of the meal, the Chef sent out a complimentary desert with well wishes too. My wife and I both ordered the veal parmesan (We have been married too long). It was delicous, as was the rest of the meal. The dinning room has a lovely atmosphere and the mood music was pleasant and not too loud, one could even carry on a conversation without yelling. Also, the price was very reasonable.
I highly recommend The Gatsby.
The meal was mediocre
The service was good
The main issue was the dining room was directly next to the bar where the patrons were very noisy.
The other issue was that because the dining room was very small it was easy to feel the mood set by the other patrons. They were very unhappy with everything and made this feeling known so the vibe was negative. This was unfortunate for us because we usually just accept things for what they are.
Although a vegetarian prefix menu was offered for Christmas Eve dinner, an option for the entree was not available. The manager couldn’t care less. He told us to eat next door at their buffet instead, where there were more options. Clearly we would have booked that option if we wanted it. The manager figured we were stuck -it was Christmas Eve. I phoned ONE restaurant and they helped us out. The food at ONE was excellent, as was the service from everyone we came into contact with! If you’re in the neighbourhood skip Gatsby and try ONE instead.
We had to wait 45 minutes before someone came to give us water, not even taking our order, even though it wasn’t busy. We were ready to walk out because an hour had passed before the server took our order. For the price we had to pay, the food was only average and the service was poor. Would not recommend this place, which is a shame because I used to love high tea at Windsor Arms.
Christmas Eve Dinner
Food was good but they ran out of the one thing I really wanted to have as my entree (lentil fritters). Our server was nice but the place was super empty, we were like the only people in there on a Saturday afternoon.
We had a reservation for 10:30 am. When we arrived, there were no staff at the restaurant. We were seated in the breakfast area for 45 minutes and still no waiter had arrived at the restaurant. We left without eating. No one at the hotel seemed to know what was going on.
The waiter didn't know what was on the menu. He was not sure if Beef Short Rib was available. There were 6 items on the main menu and after taking our order he came back and said that the restaurant did not have Halibut but Beef Short Rib available. I was also surprised that they didn't have beef tenderloin.
The worst experience I've ever had. I was there on assignment from work researching restaurants for client meetings. I still get shivers remembering my lunch, from the slow, rude and overall terrible service to equally terrible food. The dishes I've ordered were nothing like what the menu described them and when I brought this up to the server, he got visibly angry and stormed out with my plate forgetting to come back for the next half an hour. I was left hungry and had to pay for the food i didn't eat.
I will not be back.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING EVERYTHING. I loved just being in the space itself, but the food and the cocktails were incredible, the staff friendly and laid back and they instantly made me feel as though we'd been friends forever. I have already recommended this spot to others, and I'm excited to go back.
As it was a very quiet restaurant, some thematic background music would have been nice to be able to hear.
Great aesthetic, nice people live music was on point.
The service was friendly but the timing of the dishes was less than satisfactory. It took half and hour to get appetizers and then an hour for the main meal. We had to request the dessert at basically the same time so we could get back to our day.
Very good. Ambiance of another time. I could picture Liz Taylor and Richard Burton eating there
The reservation was not honoured.
Showed up at the scheduled time to learn that they do not take reservations and it is first come first serve. Had trouble finding the table.
Even though it wasn’t busy it took almost an hour for our order to be taken. We ordered the pheasant with kale and received a dry salty meal with spinach
Portions were small, given the price. Service was unacceptable since there was only 1 other table occupied in the restaurant.
Lovely quiet luncheon at The Gatsby. No blaring music or wall of TV screens. Not enough classic places like this around.
Very weird experience. I actually love the old school decor of the room - opulent and eclectic. We made the reservation after hearing the pianist at brunch in the courtyard. His music makes for a lovely background ambiance. And the service was great. Amin is perfection. Did not love the menu choices. But the weirdest thing Is that there was literally NO ONE there when we arrived at 7 pm. We didn’t leave until after 10 and only four other people showed up. The pianist was playing solely for us for the first hour. They must be losing a fortune. They really should rebrand the restaurant. I live in the neighborhood and haven’t been there in 10 years. It is unlikely I will go back.
The menu didn't have many options and the food was just okay. It was a bit expensive. it is a beautiful landmark, I was expecting more.
They do not answer their telephone. I called them 6 times to ask a question and no answer. They do not keep their website updated and they do not keep your information you have on them updated. They do not open their main dining room for dinners and they do not tell you that. They push you into an off side small dingy room for dinner. Their menu is not updated - even though it was the 16th of Feb they were still using ONLY the Valentine's Feb 14 fixed menu. Very limited choices of food. What turned out to be surprisingly good was the food and the presentation of the food - excellent - 10+ rating. New and great chef.
The owner very dominant and controlling. Get rid of him - but can't cause he owns the place. He was nasty to his staff. Every time we asked for some flexibility (one of the guests had an allergy) they had to ask him and then he always said no.
So, a very mixed bag.
Very expensive. $120 per person. Wine was extra.
We went for Winterlicious and had the best time! The best service we could have asked for! Highly reccomend!
We will not be returning to this restaurant.
The food was unexceptional at best.
The decor was pretty mixed up and and a new and totally comprehensive makeover is required.
I found it delightful and I would attend again. The food was awesome just wish it was a little hotter
The decor at Gatsby at Windsor Arms is lovely, but the ambiance was marred by the loud music playing over the speakers. I had to ask the bartender to turn it down because I was almost shouting to talk to my lunch companion. Then the food arrived. I ordered fish and chips. There was too much batter on the fish and too much salt on the fries. My lunch companion ordered the lamb burger that didn't appear as described. There was no sign of any chutney on the burger and the menu said that there would be. It's like the chef got mixed up between the lamb and bison burgers. This restaurant is close to where I work so I may be back for lunch to see if it was just a bad day when we went for the first time or I may try the afternoon tea next time.
With great expectations for a fabulous evening, we were very disappointed with such a high-level establishment that the Windsor Arms is.
We were greeted by the bartender and not by s host/hostess. We were escorted to the back dining room that was totally unoccupied. Nobody offered to take our winter coats so we simply put them on the chairs. Not a very elegant setting for a fine dining room.
The service was simple, at best, but no real effort to make our stay anything other than ordinary.
The food that followed was not worthy of the price point. The calamari and scallops were bland, not memorable. My wife’s peasant was dry and not very eatable. She left half to take home to try snd salvage it for a later lunch. No effort was made to get her opinion. My pasta special of the day was the best dish of the four we had.
We decided to come in order to evaluate the restaurant for future dinners with our top clients.
We will not return and we certainly will not recommend this restaurant to anybody else.
Thank you for such a wonderful kosher dinner! We all enjoyed it.
Enjoyable and cozy atmosphere for a quiet get together.
