Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Chicago
Loved it! Visiting from Florida and this place was classic Chicago. We had perfect ice cold martinis and then shared the Chicago cut steak with a couple of sides. I wish we had had room for dessert...
Went for our anniversary. Good food, but felt somewhat rushed. Expected just a little more.
One of the best meals I’ve had
A visit to Chicago would be incomplete if we didn’t dine at Gibson’s. Quite simply, outstanding!
Steak was cooked to perfection! The service was outstanding and every suggestion made for our dinner choices did not disappoint. We will definitely be back so we can try more menu items.
The service was top notch! The food was just ok and way over priced. We had the Chicago cut and the bone in sirloin. They were cooked well but no flavor. The Brussel sprouts were good and the twice baked potato was the best thing we had. The tables were way to close together and it was really loud. Not what I expected for a $200 dinner for two.
As always, dependable. But is that all Gibsons wants to be? Personally, they took my favorite Gibsons signature item off the menu (CL), which can happen as menus are updated. But, it was the prime reason for my favoring Gibsons. My second choice 13oz. strip was pretty good. Memorable? No. Well prepared? Yes. Sides were large, shareable, and very tasty. Wine selection was extensive.
Great experience from our outstanding & professional waiter. Food was excellent.
Must go to in Chicago! Apps, steak, creamed spinach for sure. Desert is necessary!
I thought my experience at Gibsons was a lot of fun. The dinner was excellent with the exception of the house salad which was very ordinary. It was the kind of salad you could get at any restaurant which I found surprising considering the caliber of Gibsons. It was packed and LOUD not surprising for a Saturday night but a little too much of both for my taste. But on the whole everything was great and the wait staff was extremely professional and fun.
It was great the food and service. Been goin to Gibson’s for almost 20 years and has never disappointed
Good to see Kathy, our favorite hostess, again. Enjoyed having a seat with a view in the corner and take in the atmosphere. Tim, the bartender, was exemplary and we enjoyed visiting with him. John, our server was very attentive, despite the bustling about the place. Steaks were cooked to perfection as ordered. Appetizers were great and pumpkin pie enjoyed by my wife. Only negative was no lobster bisque! Next time will book on Friday so we can have it! Wonderful experience to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
The service is what really makes GIbson's an experience and every guest feel special.
Other than my water glass standing empty for close to 10 minutes, it was a good lunch. The missing water was frustrating as I had mentioned to come back soon for a refill. And she never did until the plates were cleared.
Service was excellent, food was great! We absolutely enjoyed everything about our experience!
Solid steak. Solid waitress. Great Pianist on the second floor.
Loses marks for not being able to honor a reservation in a timely fashion. We had a 730pm reservation, arrived early and checked in, and were seated at 8pm. My wife is 33 weeks pregnant and it's not super comfortable for her to stand for prolonged periods of time, so the wait paired with the lack of seating in the entryway made her quite uncomfortable. It set a pretty bad tone going into dinner.
Everything was absolutely wonderful. Above and beyond top notch. Even down to the way our waiter poured our water. Wish I could remember his name. But he wasn’t the only one. Everyone that took care of our table that night was so friendly, warm, & funny. We will definitely be back! Our teenagers enjoyed it!
I order the lobster cobb salad often, but this time could barely find the lobster ... which turned out to be a small piece of a claw, completely hidden by a small piece of lettuceI hope these stingy portions aren't a new trend.
Everything was AMAZING.
The ambiance of an “old school” steak house, great menu with plenty of options.
Simple, delicious food cooked perfectly.
Our waiter Karl was great. We followed his recommendations and he was right on point. Friendly and made us feel very comfortable and welcomed.
Excellent choice in Chicago!!
Excellent food!!! Highly recommend
The steaks at Gibson’s rivals or surpasses Capital Grille. Highly recommend Gibson’s while visiting Chicago.
Food was fantastic but we felt that they needed our table quickly as service was rushed
There was a private event and restaurant was fully booked so reservation wait time was more than 30 min but Gibson’s comped us drinks from the bar and a shrimp cocktail and crab salad appetizer!!! Impressive. All the steak is divine. We had filet mignon and NY cut. Cooked perfectly. Their signature double baked potato was awesome. Pricey but well worth it.
Friendly, helpful and efficient service. Very large portions. Very popular.
Everthing delicious, the best roasted prime rib! Excelent service.
Amazing place. Great food and a very nice experience
Good restaurant but I’ve been charged 2 Tomás in my card for the total amount of the bill when the instructions were only 50% of the total amount and now I will be 7 days with this significant amount hold by the bank because of this silly mistake
La host no es nada amable.
We came to celebrate me finishing the marathon. Service was exceptional, aside from being sat almost 40 minutes after our reservation. But it was a busy night. Some of our food was cold, but it was delicious. We will be back when we return to Chicago!
Had reservations but still stood waiting for half an hour. Steak was over cooked, very thin on one side, sent it back. The totally nailed it the second time and brought out 2 shrimps while I waited and my friends ate their meal.
Great steaks and food. Waiter was excellent. Friendly and attentive and got everything right.
Amazing food and service. The steak and dessert were incredible.
Good experience overall. A lot of business based on reputation and marketing I am sure. We were placed in a very busy part of the restaurant. The service was decent. We ate the previous week in Joe's and on balance food was better overall but the ambiance and location was not just a good.
Honesty I’ve eaten a lot of steaks at high end steakhouses with many sides and this may have been the best one! Definitely top 3! Bone in ribeye cannot go wrong!
Excellent meal and service. We asked for a good table and the reply was sure we'll seat you with a window table. The window view was nice, but it was beside the wait station/ desk. Employees standing and working right beside your dining experience. Other than that it was a good evening.
I had a great time at Gibsons. My party of 11 were greeted and seated in a timely manner. I gave 4 stars for the food and not 5 because the chicken was extremely dry. Other than that, I enjoyed all the food. Great customer service
I have been going to Gibsons for almost 20 years, I loved it when I lived in Chicago and after moving 11 years ago I have been going back to Gibsons every time I’m back in Chicago for business or for a personal trip.
I booked a reservation for 11 people to celebrate a few of us that ran the marathon this past Sunday (10/13). We were eating at 3:30pm when the restaurant was not busy at all, particularly for Gibsons’s standards, but they made us wait 25 minutes to get us our table. We called ahead to say we were going to be 5-10 minutes late and they told us if we were more than 15 minutes late we’d lose our table; this is standard across restaurants, but we rushed to be on time and it made our 25-minute wait a lot more annoying given there was no apology for making us wait.
The table for 11 was a poorly-formed combination of two round tables right by a door and in the middle of where everyone was walking through; we asked for a change that could not be accommodated even though it showed poor preparation for a reservation made more than 3 months in advance.
Finally, in almost 20 years I’ve never had a waiter at Gibsons that hasn’t been anything but outstanding. This was until Sunday when our server had a terrible attitude, was simply unpleasant and refused to answer questions with the “charm and personality” that the staff at Gibsons is known for. As mentioned earlier, we ate very early in the afternoon and the place was not busy; there was no excuse for this behavior and it’s a shame given we came from out of town, we were celebrating that a few of us finished the Chicago Marathon, and we thought we had picked the perfect “Chicago place” to celebrate.
Gibsons was a disappointment this time, I’m surprised that I could ever say that given how much I’ve loved this place for so long.
Great service and great food!!
Delicious, fun, good energy. Excellent wait staff
Best steakhouse in Chicago. Service and food were amazing. Make reservations, bar is crowded too! Really good value, food and wine, as compared to where I am from.
