6 course surprise, seasonal tasting menu centred around local, seasonal produce, prepared with a unique twist. We cater around all dietary requirements & any dislikes so that all the surprises on the night are good ones. The menu is paired with drinks we believe are complimentary to three courses. All dietary requirements & dislikes must be made aware to us 24 hours prior to your booking date, no menu adjustments can be made after this time.

Complimentary starters were lovely. Venison was really tasty. We enjoyed the cabbage ice cream. Seemed to work with the chocolate dessert.

We were recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food was exceptional, but at the price it is only for special occasions (for us anyway). The service was attentive - perhaps too much as I don't like being asked after every course how it was. However, it was really nice to meet the chef/owner as he visited each table to discuss the meal - if we wanted to. The decor is a bit bare so the place feels echoey and I got a bit sick of The Beatles.
Fantastic food and a really nice atmosphere and it was great to have a chat with the chef/owner. Sincerely hope that they bloom in these difficult times as they definitely deserve to.
Absolutely delicious.Food was innovative but not just for the sake of it .Every dish was perfectly balanced and full of flavour.Either GL50 needs to move to Reading or we need to consider moving house.

Excellent food of high quality and great creativity. Limited but very good wine list. They know their stuff on the food and wine front. The service was excellent and very personal. The restaurant lacked a little bit of atmosphere due to the Covid modifications but highly recommend. When in Cheltenham or surroundings go eat here.
Food was lovely although some of the bread was very doughie, a bit like cake.
Thought the wine list could have been a bit more extensive with more choices in the lower price range, there was a jump of nearly £10 from cheapest to the next. Staff attentive and friendly.

This place has the feel of a michelin star restaurant, service was excellent, in my humble opinion the food did not taste as good as it looked.
Came here with my boyfriend for our joint 30th birthday, and it was honestly one of the best meals we’ve had. Quirky mix of ingredients, but we love the ethos of the place in reducing food waste. I had roast wood pigeon and it was to die for, and at the end they gave us a little birthday surprise that just topped off an already perfect evening. Thank you so much to the team! We’ll definitely be back next time we visit the Cotswolds.

We had a wonderful night and the best food. It was a perfect place and menu to commemorate our 40th Anniversary! We had the special 8 courses tasting menu option and it was worth. Beautiful presentation and in each one of the course we had the chef to explain what it was on our plate. Highly recommend this restaurant. Sofie was very attentive and also explained all the wines which were being served with the courses. Nice touch at the end bringing us a Happy Anniversary tray with sweets !

Our first visit back to GL50 after lockdown and it did not disappoint - we were made to feel welcome right from the start. We felt in safe hands with the COVID arrangements and the food and service were excellent - we'll be back soon

GL50 – No Postcode Lottery
Don’t visit GL50 if you want traditional safe cooking. If you like the surprise of new and creative taste combinations, this is the place to come.
I had the £100 6 course seasonal tasting menu with drinks flight.
The surroundings are modern and, as expected clean and COVID safe. The flavours are intense but the experience relaxed. The emphasis is on local produce and minimising waste.
You feel like a judge critic on Masterchef as the talented young team of (masked) chefs bring each course to your table and describe it to you.
There will be stand out dishes and those where you just marvel at the creativity. A course of burnt brassicas, krispy kale and pickled turnips served with a desert Tokay wine was creative but for me the stand out dishes were: Turbot with crispy chicken skin and black garlic; Pigeon roasted on the bone with a fabulous jus from foraged fruits with trimmings; The pre desert and the main desert of a fabulously dark chocolate torte with cabbage ice cream.
Some of the courses may sound odd but work incredibly well together both in themselves and with the choice of wines. For the accompanying wine flight lesser known grapes and regions prevailed. After an intense Clare Valley Riesling, there was a Greek Moschofilero, German Pinot Noir and some desert wines to set off the creative cooking.
For the quality, number of courses, variety, and experience this is great value. My only disappointment was the lack of a printed or digital menu recording all the wonderful courses for me. The meal though was certainly memorable (in the very best sense). Not a lottery, Fine Dining at its best.

Decided to visit the restaurant as a birthday surprise for my girlfriend and the attention to detail was amazing, all the little touches were perfect and the staff are very passionate about what they do.
They acknowledged my girlfriend’s birthday with a nice touch and we both had a great evening.

Me and my partner ordered the pulled pork starter, venison main and chocolate desert. The food was outstanding and as promised, casual fine dining. The service was equally fantastic- polite and respectful with a personal touch. The menu is appealing and has the perfect balance of traditional (pulled pork, venison etc.) and unique flavours (cabbage ice cream). This is an up and coming restaurant and clearly there is a lot of skill, hard work and knowledge of creating a high quality dining experience in a casual environment. Keep up the great work and i hope it works out well.
Excellent restaurant, food and service both first class. Restaurant was very quiet for obvious reasons which shouldn’t detract from the experience but does a little.
I’d definitely recommend and we will go again soon hopefully.
I ordered the Turbot for my main. I appreciate it is an expensive fish, however at £32 a portion I did expect more than 3 bites. My other diners had meat and had at least twice as much on their plate. The burnt apple desert had hardly any apple. Not sure why the chef would want to save on apple. I left hungry.

Cannot recommend GL50 enough! Very friendly service and made to feel very safe throughout the whole dinner (individually wrapped menus, distances observed and masks worn). Menu was superb - experimental in all the right ways. The pigeon and chocolate dessert were absolute stand outs! Staff were all extremely friendly and the chef coming round at the end of the evening left us feeling as though we had just dined with friends. Cannot wait to visit next time we are in Cheltenham.
An absolutely incredible tasting menu with wonderfully attentive staff. The chefs were so enthusiastic they would come to us between courses to ask how we found it all which was a lovely touch. One of the best meals I’ll ever had. Thank you!
Limited menu. Food was not to our taste (undercooked meat) we sent it back only for the chef to say he couldn’t change anything and that was that. We paid and left hungry.
Dear Sophie, Our pork belly is slow cooked for 48 hours & our chef samples all dishes before we serve to customers. The pork is definitely not undercooked. In terms of the limited menu, you were offered & in fact made other options, which you have failed to mention on your review. All our menus are available online, so in fact if you had decided this menu was to limited for you i would ask why you decided to dine with us?
Fantastic service, Fantastic food, great hospitality, pretty unique and different for Cheltenham...adults and kids loved the food...right next to Cheltenham Minster...cannot recommend more highly...next time we’re in Cheltenham will definitely book and go again....
We love to treat ourselves to a meal out in a really nice, fine dining restaurant every now and then. This was just what we wanted. No generic menu, all different, all fresh, all explained to you by the chef who cooked it. Delicious, and the owner was very nice and made sure to speak to his guests. We also noted that the only other restaurant where we didn't touch our bottle of wine, but our glasses were kept topped up without us noticing was a Michelin starred restaurant we visited a few years ago. I think that's the aim for this little gem, and I hope they achieve it. Well worth a visit.
