Grand Lake Kitchen - Dimond
Very cool, relatively new restaurant. Great decor, attentive staff and delicious food. Portions are big and the donuts are super yummy ( $5 for four full sized donuts!).
Really fun vibe. Funky, creative, high-end “deli” food. Great mixed drinks. Will definitely return. Pork chop was scrumptious. Donuts were killer for dessert.
good, friendly service, tasty food
The menu’s dull for lunch, mostly tailored to a brunch crowd. I ordered the tuna salad. It was incredibly dry and flavorless, as if they had dumped it from a can and done nothing more for it. My companion ordered a dish with an exotic name that turned out to be egg salad on toast. He pronounced it uninteresting but acceptable. My salad seemed not to have been dressed except with grated Parmesan. The pita bread was warm and good but welded closed so I couldn’t place tuna salad inside it. Also, there were only four tiny pita wedges. Disappointing. We would’ve made this a regular stop had the food been more interesting and better prepared. The service was mediocre. I was first given a cup of coffee full to the brim. I asked that some of the coffee be removed so I could put sugar and cream in it. The cup returned less than half full. Later, when I asked for a refill, even though the restaurant was not crowded, the refill took twenty minutes to arrive.
Unique pairings of food that are absolutely delicious
Great food and very good wine list, with most wines available by the glass or carafe if you don’t want a bottle and reasonably priced. The food is quite good for the price point and the service is friendly (neither aloof or too fawning). The roasted chicken I ordered was really well cooked with a generous helping of root and leafy green veggies. The steak my friend ordered was also perfectly prepared and came with plenty of sides. A good place for a weeknight dinner and the acoustics and low music volume make conversation pleasant.
Nice to have more eating choices in Diamond. Unique dishes, excellent preparation.
Great overall. The sprouts were a little undercooked and service was ok. Our waiter, I felt was ok but almost like couldn’t be bothered. He was ok.
Great to have this spacious, yet cozy restaurant in the Dimond Neighborhood. It is so comfortable and the food is the same as the Lakeshore GLK - but without all the noise and lines...........and parking issues! Plenty of parking on the street or just a block away at a free lot.
Great local restaurant that brings a lot to the neighborhood.
Love the beautiful new space. Great place for a party. Menu has affordable options, everything was tasty.
Kid-friendly and great cocktails for the parents
Everything was fantastic. We love the location on Grand Street and are so excited to have this location so much closer to us. The only thing I will say is that its very bright inside in the evening so its not really a date night place. But if that's the only complaint then they're doing fine, amiright?
We both found our meals disappointing and decided maybe we’ll do lunch or brunch instead the next time.
Great addition to the neighborhood! Will be back soon with friends.
Such a great addition to the neighborhood. A more relaxed version of the Lake Merritt location. Similar menu, same great cocktails and wine. But more space to enjoy. Great place to grab a bit at the bar, have some friends gather, or to take your dog on the patio. Food follows the simple and delicious path they took on Grand. You can't go wrong.
Overall dinner was pretty good. The staff was great. The food was a bit pricey and the dinner options a bit limited.
Mostly good but very noisy. Went at 6pm, which was family time. Lots of noisy kids. Also noisy room. Difficult to talk comfortably.
Great addition to neighborhood. Food is just as good as original. Menu is small but a nice mix. Great bar. Some nice outdoor spaces. Worth the visit for an event or everyday meal.
The tables inside are way too close together, you can clearly hear the conversations on both sides and it feels like you’re crammed into a sardine can. A man also came over to our table what seemed like every 5 minutes to ask if everything was ok, interrupting our conversation multiple times. I appreciate good customer service, but that was really overbearing.
We were excited to try out GLK; however, we must say that the experience was a disappointment. The service was especially slow (which echos a lot of what other reviews say)--our food took incredibly long. Moreover, I wouldn't say the dishes were particularly memorable or noteworthy. I highly doubt I'd return to this site.
We were on our way to the Chabot Science museum to see Mesmerica.....what a great restaurant to start the evening with! We sat outside, very friendly staff and everyone LOVED their food! I had an Italian sandwich and it was perfect, from bread to meat and all the right accessories! Open faced Salmon sandwich, perfect and a Mid Eastern plate, again, all the right stuff! We shared the Asian cucumbers, yum!! We live in Marin or this place would be added to our spinning wheel of where are we eating tonight!! Excellent find!!
I tried hard to recommend this Dimond location as we LOVE the one on Grand Ave. This is my 3rd time. Breakfast. THe bacon was still raw and had to be sent back. We are so easy-going. If it was anyway cooked , we would have eaten it, but raw? the eggs over easy had the raw white part running on the plate so had to send that back , too. Seems weird that eggs and bacon are that hard. Our waiter tried hard. Also , when you get toast, doesn't butter and jam come with it? We had to ask for EACH of those and get it later on. The OJ was really good, but so sad that this new location just doesn't have the quality of food that the other Grand Lake Kitchen has. Is it the chef/ cook? the mangagement? before we went for lunch, also not very good and the menu does not have many of the items at the Grand location which we love. Again, quality of the food and all the food parts is just not good. ESPECIALLY AS THE COST FOR TWO WAS $50.00 !!! C'mon. a breakfast on Fruitvale and MacArthur of bacon and eggs for FIFTY DOLLARS... I've lived here all my life, and you know that's ridiculous. We are SO EXCITED to have you in the neighborhood and want you to succeed. Can't you fix this? like bring the whole crew up from the other location and train the people in the Dimond or see what is happening with the management and quality control. Does anyone check the meals before they go out. I was hoping it was a one time thing but now we've given you THREE opportunities with different guests with us each time and all feel the same. I've talked to many neighbors and people in the neighborhood who had the same experience and were telling ME, it wasn't very good, before I even went.. seems just impossible that you can't duplicate the restaurant at the location on Grand with the line out the door ! There's a reason for that.. the quality of the food.. bottom line. Please fix these things so you won't go out of business. We all want you to stay in the Dimond but we deserve good, cookedfood sameas Merrit
Slow as molasses service, although our server was very nice. The couple at the next table waited over an hour and then were told that the waiter forgot to enter their entree.
Both my friend and l agreed that the wine selection was poor. We sampled a few wines and they were just OK. We agreed—we won’t be going back—and the marginal wine list has a lot to do with it.
Beautiful large and bright. Service was outstanding. The food was disappointing for dinner but I’ll try it again.
Delicious food! Excellent service! Beautiful and comfortable restaurant. Highly recommend.
We’ll be back!
Great food and service
The menu has something for everyone! I like this location much better than the one on Grand only because it is larger and parking is easier!
Our second visit to Grand Lake Kitchen Dimond was improved from our first visit. Food was well prepared, appetizing, and correctly priced. Our only issue was with waitstaff who were not as friendly as previous experiences at both of the locations. We still recommend either location for lunch or dinner.
The food, though good quality, was overly salty. Since this is a new second location, I'll give them another chance.
We met for Brunch and loved the food- great addition to the neighborhood- love the hours and location
I live just around the corner and went for my birthday with friends visiting from England. It is really well designed, which makes an impression as soon as you walk through the door. Very nice and efficient staff. The food and drink were delicious. Super diverse crowd with a great ambiance. I have already booked again and will be returning with good friends for another birthday celebration. So glad Grand Lake Kitchen is in my hood!
Great service, great people, we enjoy the space, food is consistently good and interesting. Would be great if they could strike a deal with the hamburger joint across the road for parking however. Uber is always a good option. It has become our go to place.
Love the new GLK location. It's so much bigger and while I live across the street from the original, think I'll be spending more time here. Minor concerns, its very loud. There should be better acoustics in here. We came to half full restaurant and cold barely hear ourselves. Also, my husband I ordered the same dish. His was well, mine medium, and we were served each other's steaks. Maybe just a flag, a toothpick, something to easily indicate otherwise, all was good. Great waiter!
Drinks were great, service was friendly and efficient. Food was really good. Lovely staff. Welcoming atmosphere
Really enjoyed the salmon dish.
Great food; great cocktails; great staff. Really comfortable place and easy parking.
The worst eggplant dish I’ve ever tried to eat and I was charged for it even though I sent it back. Boring dry burrata ( how???). Good wine and nice server but so many dood errors I think I’ll go for drinks in the future.
The bartender was amazingly slow. We were there at five and the restaurant was nearly empty. We waited at least 15 minutes after placing our order to get our martinis. We had a charcuterie plate (mediocre) and fried green tomatoes (good). I had the chopped salad which was good and a large portion. Another of our party had the pork chop which he liked but was disappointed in the Anson Mills polenta. The carrot cake was dry and crumbly. If you really like carrot cake, don’t order it.
Great addition to the Dimond district/Fruitvale area. Fun, contemporary comfortable space, pleasant and diverse staff and the food is DELICIOUS! I was worried it would be too loud to hear my companion across the table because the tables are close together and the space has a lot of tile/hard surfaces that can get noisy, but it was fine. Didn't have to yell at all. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive and explained specials well. Overall a nice outing in the Dimond, will definitely return again.
