Grand Lake Kitchen - Lake Merritt
Arrived during happy hour which was a great way to try a few things and enjoy a couple cocktails. There were three of us and we shared so many appetizers that we ended up inky sharing one other entree. Deli salads were great. The gnocchi are perfect and the Reuben fries... agh! ❤️
I love Grand Lake Kitchen. Just wish they would turn the music down a bit, especially for brunch and lunch. Its a bit loud for me personally.

I love the food at grand Lake kitchen, it’s fantastic! The seafood tower is one of my favorites and the chop salad with a scoop of chicken salad on top of it is absolutely delicious! The service is super friendly, and they even offer gluten-free bread. This is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the bay area for brunch or lunch

Birthday brunch wit GFs. Some new items on the menu were delicious and we always love the donuts.
The food was quite over-seasoned other than the fried green tomatoes. The corn was cooked poorly. The chocolate mousse cup was also grainy and strangely salty. The rhubarb strawberry pie crust was soggy. The cocktails were quite good and service was average. I’m not sure I would go again though I have had better experiences there before.
Great brunch / lunch menu, lovely to sit outside with a Lake Merritt view.

We’d made a weekday lunchtime reservation and were seated very cordially and promptly. They were robustly busy and we had to wait a bit for the waitperson to take our order. After waiting for 25-30 minutes for orders which required no cooking, our waitperson approached to ask if we’d like anything else. The friend I was with immediately responded with “our lunch! We haven’t had anything yet.” The waitperson was very apologetic and our meals came shortly thereafter.
I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich which was delectable! Served on toasted bread (some type of levain as I think they were out of rye)with just the right amount of cream cheese, topped with capers, red onion and chives, I unhurriedly savored every bite (a plus - we never were rushed to finish). My friend ordered the chopped salad which she devoured with pleasure. We both had iced tea which was very good.
Grand Lake Kitchen is wildly popular for a reason - overall, they’re very, very good, and I will definitely go back. I do think it would be helpful if they were to hire at least one or two more waitpersons for their very busy times.
First time visit: great service and food. Good options for vegetarians as well. I had tried to eat there previously, on a weekend morning, but had been deterred by long lines. This time I met for lunch and made a reservation in advance. Perfect! I’ll be back and look forward to sampling more of the menu.

It’s definitely more a brunch and lunch menu, but the food is still great for all times of the day and the service is very attentive. Solid cocktail menu as well.

Consistently good and we like this place because of their use of fresh ingredients, nice presentation and good tasting food.
I take people I care about to this place, people I on whom I wanna make an impression, without ever seeming to try. At GLK I don't have to—they always come through. Classy but comfortable. Wear anything. As ever, the food had some yummy surprises and hit the mark at every point.
Only wish: turn off the TVs at the bar. I love you, GLK and you're better than that.
I love this place. The food is always fresh and delicious and the staff is outstanding. They go out of their way to be helpful and make you feel welcome.
Will not recommend for now but It is a 50/50 need a GM to clean up few things with service, menu, wine list. Definitely some potential but not there yet will see how things evolve in short term.
We had seen this place on Check Please on KQED, so we thought we'd give it a try. We made reservations and three of us went for dinner. The staff are very nice, we were seated quickly. Mostly the food was just OK. The Sunday Chicken which takes 45 minutes to prepare was the best thing we had ($50 is perhaps a little steep? Came with salad but nothing else, like potatoes). The fried green tomatoes were cut in quarters instead of sliced and were undercooked. The grilled corn wasn't bad. The matzo ball soup had way too much dill and the ball was kinda golf ball heavy. The Reuben fries was pretty darned awful. The bone-in pork chop was also just OK. Their fresh donuts for dessert were very tasty. Don't think we'll be back for dinner, but we might try them for breakfast/brunch.
Casual diner, good prices and portions, fab matzah ball soup and bone marrow.
Ran out of what we wanted but everything else was good.
Really liked it. Interesting and very good food. Only real negative was that it was very noisy and hard to talk. Otherwise a fun spot with a very hip Oakland vibe.
Really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, my burger was way overcooked and dryed out. The place has a nice vibe, but if you can't even get a burger right, no way would I come back. Also, I think in general, it is very overpriced for what you get.
the french fries were fabulous. the oyako sandwich wasn't as good as i hoped and the bread was way too much. i ended up eating my egg salad with some crostini we got with the burrata appetizer. the donuts were excellent.
Small portions. Meh. Service was ok.
The avocado toast has two poached eggs. One had a hard boiled yolk, one was perfectly runny. There were three pieces of avocado that were rotting.
Flavor was lacking.
I really loved this place because I used to live near here back in the mid-80s so have a great fondness for this area. The ambience of GLK brought me back to those days and I really miss the culture and vibe here. We went during happy hour and wow what a deal! We were SO impressed with their small global wine selection as well as their fantastic cocktails. Watermelon sangria on a hot day, need I say more? We had fried green tomatoes, tuna mac, persian cucumbers, and donuts and we ate each tasty morsel. I hope we stop in again soon so I can try more things on the menu.
This was my third visit to Grand Lake Kitchen...and I only learned about it a couple of months ago! The food, the service and the options are excellent. The Chilaquiles Verdes is my favorite dish and they do it well! My friends had the Cali Salad plate and the Sandwhich option on the brunch menu and all raved. I loved our wait person this time as well as the last two times and each time was different. I can't say enough good about this place. Homey, tasty, strong flavor of Oakland...no feeling that the inside of the restaurant doesn't reflect the City...Delicious diversity and a feeling of being part of the best of the Oakland Community as well as feeling as though the food is truly nourishing and healing as well as unbelievably well prepared and YUMMY! Definitely go and check them out. You won't be sorry. Make sure you have plenty of time on a weekend for brunch to put your name in and go wander for an hour or so before your table is ready. So worth it!!

We were here for a social dinner on a Wednesday nite and it was packed at 6:30. By 8:00 it was half empty for those who like to eat later. Very lively environment, a bit noisy for our group with the music and such, definitely for older people a bit challenging to talk and hear over the music a bit but for those looking for this kind of ambiance, nice. My wife and I ordered the Fish Tower which for those not looking to eat too much, was excellent, excellent, excellent!!! For a later light bite, loved the combination of fish, bagel chips and fresh cucumber slivers and the salmon, trout, etc. dips. The rest of our party was really happy with their meals too, even with the slightly smaller menu offering. Good diversity of items though. Would definitely come back here, just wish the music was a bit lower, next time, will aim to sit outside curbside for that.
Food was great. Service was ok. Restaurant was not clean however. Food scraps on the floor everywhere and general dank feeling. Terribly messy toilets.
A cozy neighborhood dining at a prime location with quality food and welcoming personnel.
The good thing about them is they provide deliciousness 7 days a week, morning through evening.

GLK is unique. it has food that you just can not get elsewhere. also it has the most amazing hip (does this date me) clientele. the food is prepared wonderfully, comes relatively fast, and the drinks are not chintzy.
Meh. I don’t get the hype. Slow service, drinks took forever then felt rushed at the end. There are too many restaurants with good service to cram into this loud place. Must be putting all their efforts in the new location. :/
So great! It was my first time for a going away dinner for me. Bummed I waited so long to try this place as I’m leaving. Amazing food especially the fried green tomatoes and Reuben French fries. And prices were so good for the Bay Area.
