Grumpy Goat Tavern
Wonderful food and our waiter was great! It was our first time here and we loved it.
Always a great experience from the large variety of beverages and food to the awesome service and atmosphere.
GG is a consistently good, above average gastro-pub. There are two large rooms in an attractive building on a local golf course. Creole-slanted menu (upscale, casual) is always interesting and the beer and bourbon selection is extensive. The attentive, friendly staff makes for an enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.
Overall enjoyable evening. View overlooking course very nice. Beer flights fun. Food was O.K. Nothing great, but fine. Service was mostly fine.
The french toast is enough of a reason to come back.
The Cajun Shrimp & Crab Boil was amazing. The kids especially got a kick out of the Cajun Mud Pie.
The views of golf course made it more positive. Not as good as I hoped for, however I will try sgsin
Our server Christine was OUTSTANDING! She even created one of the signature drinks on the menu.
I really love grumpy goat but this night the patio was super windy and cold and louder in the section we were in. I asked for a table at the other end (west end) and was told no, even though I had a reservation. First time this has happened to me there. Food was really good and service was decent.
Awesome birthday celebration!!!
Clever entree’s. Service was fabulous- Kate is an asset to the Grumpy Goat family. Cocktails are yummy!
Fantastic food! The mac and cheese was fantastic. I would come back for sure
From Mpls but in down for a concert. Saw this place and thought it looked pretty unique. The food was tasty, lots of outdoor sitting as well.
We had great food and friendly service...as always! Thanks so much!
Wait staff friendly and personable, however not fully attentive with a dinner that wasn’t delivered until halfway through the entire meal. Food was a bit above mediocre with good portion size. View was very nice, although the bar/restaurant reminds me of a mom and pop, city tavern with a banquet room in the back. For the price...eh.
We happened to be there on a Sat. when there were several young baseball players there having lunch as well. Thus they were very busy and the noise was louder than normal I would assume. (only reasons to not give 5-star overall) Food was certainly 5-STAR!!!!
Zac was our server, nice guy. Very friendly! It was our second time there and the food was excellent. Very fresh and rather inventive for a golf course restaurant !
Great place to have Cajun inspired food in Elgin. I wouldn’t expect that the menu would be so good at a restaurant on a golf course but this is a hidden gem. Very friendly staff, good cocktails, great food. I definitely recommend the Grumpy Goat.
Excellent food. Outstanding service. We’ll keep returning
Nice place, interesting menu and really close to home
Five of us gathered to celebrate a birthday. Three had never been there before but have spent s lot of time in LA and know and like Cajun food. Three had the crawfish etouffee. I had a grouper sandwich minus the bun and thought the fish was just okay(a little dry)and the portion small for the price. One diner had a burger which she enjoyed. The sweet potato fries were the hit of the night. The birthday person got the beignets and thought they were very good.
No matter what you order, it will be fabulous! My fave is the Creole Chicken sandwich on a brioche bun. Amazing!!
I put this restaurant as 'good to very good', and worth a try. The interior is a little stark, and you never know how noisy it will be in the place. It's on the golf course, but not the prettiest one I've ever seen.
Three at my table had a burger, which they all put at about a 7 out of 10. I had the muffaletta, which was a 9; should have been a little 'drippier'.
So, even though it sounds bleak, I'd try it again...so many patrons in the place on Friday at 6PM can't be wrong!
Delicious Turkey Burger w/all the trimmings. Happy Hour Oysters along with $3.00 draft beer made for an enjoyable evening. Beautiful outside dining with a golf course view. Thank you for the Birthday gift.
Nice place with a great server. Food selection was good for someone who likes goat cheese.
Have visited several times prior to attending events at ECC. Always great service, food quality and value. Recommend you give it a try if you've not visited before.
I always enjoy my meals and service at this restaurant which is why I continue to go back.
Everyone was so friendly. Our server helped to facilitate getting our meal and check in a very timely matter so we could get back on the road to the concert we had tickets for. Very great experience and took forward to returning. Thanks.
I bought two Groupons for GG and planned to go there for my birthday dinner with my girlfriends. I am a vegan, so I checked the website ahead of time to ensure they had a veggie burger option for me. First of all, I was told I could only use one Groupon per table. Next, I asked to sample a wine that sounded interesting and was told that I could only if they already had a bottle opened. 15 minutes later the server came back and said they didn't have it at all so I would have to choose something else. Next, I asked about the veggie burger because I didn't see it on the website and was told they no longer offered it, but that I could order their cold veggie wrap as an alternative. I don't know about you, but a cold veggie wrap is not what I had hoped for on a cold evening when celebrating my birthday. Our server was apologetic but very slow despite the fact that only 3 other tables in the entire dining room was occupied. I've been coming here for a couple of years but will not be coming back again after this visit.
The food and service were exceptional. We plan on returning.
We have been to the Grumpy Goat many times and love the food. This last time I had their Saturday night prime rib special and was very disappointed. Was hard to cut, tough and not very flavorful especially for the price we paid. Won't discourage me from returning though. Love the food, service and atmosphere.
We are very sorry you were disappointed in your meal last Saturday night. We as managers try to walk around the restaurant, stop at tables to make sure our customers are satisfied but unfortunately, you were missed. Thank you for taking time to let us know that the Prime Rib was not up to par, and I hope to hear from you so we can try to make it up to you. Thank You.
Interesting meals and we'll done
Happy you enjoyed your meal. Hope to see you again soon!
Enjoyed a Sunday dinner with a bit of March Madness with my hubby. I ordered the cajun chicken sandwich, and it was hot, fresh and delicious! My husband ordered a build your own burger- he throughly enjoyed his meal as well.
Thank you for taking time for your review. So happy you enjoyed your dinner! We look forward to serving you again soon.
Crowded but great food
So pleased you enjoyed your visit to Grumpy Goat Tavern! Hope to see you again soon!
Hidden gem! I love New Orleans and I love having a little bit of it in Elgin, IL!
Service was slow. Food took long time to come out, but was worth it. Seems like kitchen couldn’t keep up with crowd. We also requested certain table and was told someone had it already. So they placed us in something compatible which was fine but we could of waited for original table as people left 10 minutes after we got there. Our total time there was 1hr 45min. Great food!
Don't let this golf course restaurant fool you, its fantastic! I had the grouper and it was prepared perfectly. Very fresh and tasty dish. If you haven't tried their bloody marys you're missing out. Super delish!!!!!! We will be back!
Reliable, comfortable restaurant. Well-prepared food with a New Orleans flair, friendly service, extensive bar.
Thank you for your review. We look forward to serving you again soon!
Overall great experience. Wide and varied menu. Nice setting in country club. Service was friendly and responsive. Stuffed jalapenos and deviled eggs were excellent. Stuffed pork was tender and the sauce was quite good, although they could have been a little more liberal with it. Louisiana fried chicken was moist and delicious. Crawfish etouffee was good. Not as spicy or as salty as some that I've had, but there were ways to make it spicier to your taste, and I really appreciated not having to drown myself in water because the meal had so much salt. Beignets were small, but divine. Pine nut cake was good, but the chocolate was bittersweet, so when my husband ran out of the whipped cream, he said it was a little dry. Serving it with ice cream might have been a better choice. Prices were very reasonable.
Thank you for taking time for your review. Hope to see you again soon!
