Gyu-Kaku - San Mateo, CA
The food was amazing. The sake was amazing. The service was amazing.
best food, very affordable, good customer service, but yet too noisu
Waiters are friendly but sometimes it’s hard to find them when it is busy during Happy Hour. Food is high quality.
Seems not very busy on Monday but we still waited a long time to get our drinks
One of my favorites. Good clean food for a reasonable price. Love the new menu too.
My first visit here and it was quite fun. I enjoyed grilling my food on the tabletop grill. The marinated meats were flavorful. Our server explained the grilling process; our grill was changed quickly when asked. The ambiance was very nice. I would definitely return.
Good food and very good service. we enjoy coming here before we go to a movie friendly service and fun atmosphere.
This is a fun venue and portions are big. I should have figured out I would be eating a lot of meat at a Japanese BBQ-it-yourself place, but... didn't. Anyway, the server was helpful, food was tasty, and it was fun to cook myself. but would not want to eat this much meat every week!
Delicious grilled food served by busy but attentive waiters. A good place to take family but very noisy and hard to hear conversation. Not very romantic but fun.
The food was pretty good, but the portions were small for the price. The service was not great -- it took WAY too long to get our dishes. How long does it take to put raw meat onto plates? Also, our server was disappointed that my kids and I were seated at one of the larger tables (kids = less food = less tip). My kids enjoyed the grilling, but overall, not really worth a trip back.
It’s alright for casual dining.
Server were attentive, good atmosphere and food was good.
Made reservation a week ago. Being seated on time. The fried chicken finally not over cooked & burn. It was prefect. Server was friendly and helpful. Food arrived at fair amount of time. The portion of short rib is extremely small. It is a small full size of slice (less than 1/5 lbs) for the order. It is the only plate feel like overcharged. All other plates size are decent. The only complaint is dirty restroom. It such a waste of the nice toilet seat.
Ever so crowded! Food is pretty good and the services are so friendly, from front desk to checking out. Will recommend for gatherings with friends or co-workers! Will be back!
Good food, slow service. Need to be cognizant of business lunches
It was a friend’s birthday dinner, and I left a note when I made a reservation. We have eaten here many times, and it's usually good. Tonight was one of the worst; our server was not attentive, brought us a wrong dish, the tea tasted bad, meat quality wasn't excellent, the rice tasted awful and old. They did not do anything for our birthday friend. It was disappointing. I’ve been to Cupertino location, and the quality of food and service is much better. They get two stars because of the friendly host.
it was our first time here. we came here for our wedding anniversary. We absolutely loved the food and drinks there. Our waitress was wonderful. Our burner went out and one of the waitstaff was prompt about getting it fixed and up and running right away. It was a wonderful dining experience and we will definitely be back.
Fun healthy delicious place to meet for dinner
We will be back!
Food is great, and the server was very attentive. I do feel like the food portion is much smaller than it used to be, but they still taste good.
So much fun! My 11 year old daughter and I had s lunch date here and it was so much fun. It’s an interactive experience where you cook your own food. So cool!!
My daughter loved the s’mores for dessert.
Our server is nice, fast and funny. The food is fresh, delicious and satisfied. I would recommend my friend to come here for comfort food and friendly service.
Went for a birthday dinner! It’s just so fun. You get to cook/bbq right there at the table, makes it a fun experience. And the quality of the meat is good. Seasoned well too! I’d go again.
We ordered the Samuri meal for 4, and there was the perfect amount of food for all of us. Great experience!
We ordered harami for $26, and it came with 5 tiny pieces on a plate - so dissapointing. The egg soup was toooo salty, and a bowl of salad look dead and too much mayo on it.
Just one of those nights when too busy. Under serviced. And unable to reign in some neighbor tables boisterous small group. We don’t mind loud. But this time it killed us. They were playing own radio (phone) at elevated level at table in back corner. Come on. Just too much. Try to get a table not in back.
Really good experience at this restaurant. We ordered a happy hour special for 2 ($55) and the amount of food was PERFECT for us....on the full side of "perfectly satisfied"...just as it should be. Well done Gyu-Kyaku!
Food was to die for but service was horrible. The server didn’t have to answer to our menu questions and didn’t clear any of our plates. We kept having to wave her down for more water beer napkins almost everything. Horrible but would definitely go back for the food.
I generally love this place but was pretty disappointed with the quality of the food this time around. The bill was about 150 for two people, we don't go cheap and always order the higher quality meats like the bistro and harami dishes and found for the price it was cut poorly, inconsistent on serving portions and seasoned or marinated poorly. Will consider going here again-
Everything we ordered was delicious. Meats were nicely marinated, the avocado salad was a good addition. Service was just right, although, at a busier time, could see having to resort to the buttons on the wall. Will be back.
The lady who was waiting our table couldn't care less about what we needed or asked she had a nasty attitude.
Stove is broken service is slow
Will definitely come back. Our guests from out of town were delighted with the entire dining experience.
The grill wasn’t cleaned properly and the flame was going off several times. The staff found a temp solution to fix it, but this wasn’t a good experience - we couldn’t cook the food and it was rare or burned.
Menu could use an update and could be less confusing (I also hate plastic covered menus), but the food is good and fun to cook. We will go back.
Food was delicious and server was helpful and friendly.
We had two parties of fours that wanted to sit next to each other which they did but when ordering they would not let us have two separate bills although we were two separate groups of four so we actually had to move a group of four to a table that wasn’t adjoined to theirs in order to get a separate check so we weren’t able to sit next to each other. Manager would not budge saying he did not trust us that we were not going to pay the bill and it was some kind of fraud it was really strange. We will not be going back to this location EVER.
Quick and easy, got food quickly
We had a delicious lunch to say goodbye to coworkers. The only bummer was that the food took longer than expected to come out.
Food was awesome and potions were great for the cost. Food came fast for us to start on the appetizers which was great since we had to wait for time for the meat to cook.
It was my husband’s birthday and since we had an excellent time when we were last there, I thought your place would be perfect to go with another couple. We got the dinner for four special. It was delicious and service was good, but my only two drawbacks were, I feel you did not serve enough corn and garlic noodles for four, which really disappointed me. My husband was still eager for more noodles. This may be something for you to consider since I am paying good money for good expectations.
