Absolutely delicious food. We did the feed me menu and every dish was amazing. Friendly service and great atmosphere. You definitely feel like you are dining in Europe!
We had the tasting menu (3 course, savory) and it was phenomenal. We had two excellent wines, both French, which were recommended by the fantastic staff. It's not a cheap night out, but for the quality of food, wine and service, it's extraordinary.
Amazing food ! Romantic setting, just a bit better service when asking for the bill and getting the menus at the start.
Other than that excellent !
Yum. Especially the desserts.
This is our fifth time at Hell of the North and yet again we had a wonderful night
We had such a lovely evening. The staff were excellent and knowledgable and the food was amazing. We had the “feed me” option and just had so much food and do many different tastes it was really so good
Always great to visit
As always Hell of the North delivers - great food, wine list and service. It is a wonderful restaurant and never disappoints.
What a shame this place is let down by its self-affected vibe.
The food is excellent but I wouldn't be recommending the place.
The service we were treated to was conceited at best and being told it was a 'policy' that they couldn't let us take away our leftovers..did I say the food was delicious?.. and that they wouldn't entertain the idea of us signing off a waiver, was narrow-minded, wasteful and disappointing.
We enjoyed the evening and the food was delicious. I thought the portions were a little small. The wine list is heavily French based and really too expensive. There should be a few more local and less expensive bottles offered.
The staff were pleasant and the restaurant is attractive.
The staff are friendly and professional, the food and wine are delicious, and the atmosphere is cozy. Hell of the North really offers a delightful experience!
Food was good- authentic French cooking. Some dishes were excellent and a couple ordinary. The service is all over the place. It’s more aligned to a pub than a restaurant.
Always lovely and delicious. Great for weekend lunches.
We had the 7 meal ‘just feed me option’ and we were delighted 😊
Great room. Service was attentive and friendly. We went for the "Feed Me" option and all the offerings were tasty and generous. Great wine list at a wide range of price points and very good value. Would very much recommend for a night out with friends.
Did the feed me between 7 people - they were great with dealing with allergies but found serving sizes small and bought out in odd ways (ie. bringing 5 servings for 7 people). We had to wait at least an hour and a half to receive our first course, so we’re starving by the time we finally got to eat. Think you would be better off to go in a couple to do the feedme as for 7 people it was just not enough food.
Friendly staff yet not quite attentive enough, missed two drink orders and took a long time to get our drinks once ordered. Paring drinks didn’t come on time with food. Food was great and full of flavour, need to specify amounts per serve as we had to order extra to cater for four people. Deserts were also all delicious. Beautiful establishment and welcoming overall.
Great food and wine, fun and unique atmosphere.
What a great place! Food was fantastic and tasting menu was incredible. Beef tartare and crème brûlée will keep you coming back for more! Sea food and steak were both incredible so don’t bother picking, get both! The tasting menu is the way to go at 60-75/ head for 3 or 5 courses. For the two of us that was 8 dishes total with sides! Staff was very friendly and the space is great for a fun date night or a group dinner. Parking is suspect in the area so leave some extra time.
I would highly recommend Hell of the North. The place has a great atmosphere, and the service was very good. The food was exceptional, every course was delicious, and the suggested wine pairing was perfect.
Delicious and lovely atmosphere! Great for a romantic night out!
We had a fantastic night that flew by in a flash. We were welcomed warmly from the moment we stepped through the door and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the menu through the three course 'feed me' option. Everything we had was inventive and delicious. Drink recommendations were spot on. We'll be back.
I’ve been a dozen times now and never had anything less than a fantastic experience. It’s just so consistently good. Every mouthful is a joy. The passion of their chefs is always there to appreciate in the perfectly presented food. Love this restaurant!
great selection on wines. Food was good too. We didn't have any starters so I would love to try next time
Food was delicious! We chose the ‘feed me’ $60 option & it was the perfect amount...& we were pretty hungry! Staff were very attentive & the ambiance was lovely. Would rec
Just loved walking in thru the big yellow door to a small venue filled with ambience. Food was delicious and the staff were attentive to our requests.
The creme caramel desert is worth the trip in itself
We really enjoyed our "Date night"at Hell of the North. I booked on line, unfortunately couldn't get a table, only high tables or sitting at the bar was available we took the high table.
I was surprised to get a call confirming the reservation and if there were any dietary requirements- which there were.
They were able to cater for my "no diary"😊
Food was delicious I had the duck my partner the meat along with dishes of salads and vegetables
Highly recommended it.. book early though if you prefer table seating
Definitely be back
Poor service, felt left alone in the corner. Got the $75 feed me, was difficult to share. Quite disappointing
There's a quiet elegance to Hell of the North, an ironically-named establishment tucked in among Fitzroy's Victorian terraces which is erring to the side of caution as they traverse the line between 'fine dining' and 'high end bistro'. The place on a Sunday afternoon lunch is a quiet way to while away your weekend; the menu is rotated by the season and at this time was tailored for Autumn. A 'feed me' option was available, which we skipped in favour of the menu items. Small chicken liver pate corns were smooth, beautiful things. A seared slice of ox tongue also was gloriously tender. Main courses of lamb and pork were magnificently prepared and were the quintessence of succulence. The crème brulee desert option was among the best I've had. Our host, Mark, was engaging and funny - he knew his wines and was only too keen to elaborate on the menu items and provide back story. His is a wonderful place to eat. Highly recommended.
Outstanding service & food! Mains were a little small but entrees & desserts were quite large! 10/10 experience overall, would recommend to anybody looking for good quality French food!!
Wonderful wonderful wonderful
Wonderful evening! Don’t look any further, this is the place to go for a delicious meal. Mussels marinieres were so tasty and haven’t had a creme brûlée like that outside of Paris.
Our guests all thoroughly enjoyed the experience of dining here. The food was so good - the best creme brûlée I have ever tasted! Staff were friendly and helpful. The ambience was quiet and cosy - despite our group excitedly celebrating two birthdays and a homecoming. I was so pleased to find Hell of the North and will definitely bring friends here again. I thoroughly recommend it to others young and old!
Wonderful food, staff presenting food with a smile, and a fantastic dimly lit setting of blue stone walls and old liquor bottles.
I have been before and it was not as good as i remember, but I do know the menu changes all the time which is what I like about it. Food took too long to come out between courses in my opinion
We had a fantastic family Sunday lunch and enjoyed the FeedMe menu which was adapted to our favourite of the options. Also enjoyed a great glass of wine and cocktails. My favourite type of attentive yet informal service
-The food did not equate to the price . While the food all tasted good it was not a memorable meal, we have definitely eaten much better food for that price, the food wasn’t very adventurous.
-The restersunt itself lacks coziness, no soft furnishings , no candles or dimmed lights. The room at the side where we sat was just very plain and a bit cold too.
-Overall it was a good meal and we ate the food happily but we wouldn’t return or recommend it as there are far better for value.
Great date night venue, lots of people with a cosy but vibrant ambiance. Delicious food, well portioned. An excellent selection of booze to go along with it.
The food was absolutely incredible. The venue is lovey and very suitable for dates (we went for Valentines) or small groups. Service was impeccible. Highly recommended.
