Hell of the North
Great place to dine out. Wonderful food, wine and ambience.
We chose the 5-course Feed Me banquet on the menu, as this was our first time. We were not disappointed. Each course was delicious. Our only minor issue was the amount of salt on the skin of the fish. For our taste, it was a bit much. But, the flesh of the fish was tasty and made up for it. We'll definitely go again.
Was delicious and wine selection was great, would definitely recommend
Food was brilliant and setting was ideal for a romantic birthday dinner. 100% would recommend!
Fabulous - couldn’t have asked for a better experience
Great decor and setup; easy to have a conversation. Menu small but excellent. Food tastes amazing; dishes are made for sharing, quite small
Nice place but NOT vegetarian friendly. We wanted to do the 5 course set menu but they told us that they didn’t have enough options so we ended up having one of each side dishes. Still yummy but left a little hungry.
Superb food as per usual. Hard to fault. Despite having been here dozens of times, the owner is also his usual self. Cold and inattentive. We paid our ($250 / 2 people) bill and he left us with the eftpos machine and walked off. My wife waited to thank him for the night, but minutes passed and he still hadn’t returned. I am delighted to dine here as often as I can, but the service seems to have dramatically dipped which is a real shame.
Food was great and yummy. Would recommend to go for "Feed Me" course if you not sure what to pick. There are a wide range of cocktails, mocktails, wine, etc to pick. Great decor and ambiance. Would like to visit again
Fantastic food , great staff , would bve happy to rcommend . Chef only cooks steak Med-rare but was great . A little expensive but nothing outrageous .
My wife had her back against the pylon situated between 2 padded cushions. (left hand side of restaurant as you enter). Not the most comfortable position. Otherwise, we had a great time. We will be back!
Excellent service and fantastic cuisine. We will most definitely be back. Great restaurant!!
Service was very slow for the price and didn’t seem very good value getting the al a carte menu which is what we were advised. I’ve had the feed me menu before and was very generous.Food itself was delicious.
It was amazing! We chose the feed me option which saved us from choosing. Every course was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and with much precision. Presentation was laid back and homey. Staff were very friendly.
This restaurant has a good reputation, yet we were still pleasantly surprised, both by the quality of the food, the friendly and unpretentious service, and actually even the value - it's not bargain eating but the good is as good as much more expensive restaurants. Really a high quality experience all round :)
We did the three course feed me menu, and couldn’t even go for dessert as we were full.
Delightful choices made for us and thank you for looking after my dietary needs.
Will enjoy going back, again and again.
Exceptional food. Staff coped well with 1 member short. Good wine list.
Hell of the North is a Melbourne Institution that should be impossible to get a booking at without having to wait months. Strangely though, this is not the case. Open for 8-9 years now, they are consistently bloody good and well priced.
not clear about the set menu was of the opinion we were having al la carte. However lovey meal
Quite disappointing overall.
We felt that the whole lunch was a bit average for the price and the wait person (owner?) was a bit patronising and kept pushing us to order the set menu.
We also waited too long for him to take our drinks order which was strange as the restaurant was quite empty. He was very abrupt from the time we walked in and we wish we had gone elsewhere for the family birthday lunch.
Second visit and was not let down. Wonderful atmosphere, service and food. Do yourself a favour and take the time to go.
The food was sublime and the wine was exquisite.
The staff were amazing and we were more than happy.
Thank you once again, HotN team! We will most definitely be back for another round.
Service was friendly but very disorganized and each waiter/waitress kept doubling/tripling up with the same questions. Wrong plates were put down, plastic knives did not match finer dining experience. Food was cold/ not very flavoursome. Overpriced for what we received. Meals for the table next to us also did not arrive.
Great experience, great host, great food. Thouroughly enjoyable afternoon in an area we don’t normally frequent....
Over priced food that didn’t live up to this high cost. Poor service from the person who was paying bills at the end. Overall just a bad experience for an important occasion.
This is our go to restaurant whenever we have a special occasion. It's an intimate space with flawless service, excellent food and a great drinks list.
We almost always go the 'feed me' banquet and have never been disappointed.
I highly recommend Hell of the North
very good service
cheese a bit expensive
We had a very enjoyable dinner. We chose the 5 course chef’s selection menu and found it delightful.
There was a problem with one course that was noticed immediately after it was delivered and the staff handled it excellently, replacing it without question.
We will dine here again.
The service was really fantastic, all the staff were very friendly & the food was amazing. Thank you :)
It's always a great night out at Hell's. Awesome food and service. Never fails to impress. Love it.
Great night. Food was exceptional. Service was great
Great relaxed dining. The staff member was super friendly and attentive. Delicious food that would highly recommend
Great food , the staff are fantastic Attentive without being over bearing like some places. We were lucky to get a table in the smaller room which was really quiet and a bit more intimate. A must go .
Super delicious food, incredible wine list, perfect atmosphere, fun and knowledgeable staff. 11/10 🌟🌟
This was our second dining experience at Hell of the North.
Whilst the food was good, the service could have been better for the price paid. We had to constantly hunt down someone to order a drink and when we did our first drink arrived after the first course was served.
The feed me menu is definitely the way to go, but there are better valued restaurants in Melbourne.
Great food, great wines. Don't forget to ask for the hand-written wine list! Exceptional!
It took 1.5 hours to have all of our menu items to show up on our table. The order of items were not planned at all, all items came out one after another with huge gap (including our two mains), we spent 2 hours here, and we really just wanted to spend an hour since we are just two people.
Great food and service, just don't get the matching wines on the feed me option as you're paying per glass (i.e. $32 for a single glass).
A really enjoyable night! A great range of food came with the Feed Me menu. Though the portions sizes were a little small, the flavours were excellent and pair very nicely with the wines. Would definitely recommend!
Thanks for making our anniversary dinner so lovely!
Secluded off the main street and a great 'neighbourhood' gem with food and wine to match the atmosphere!
