Excellent in every way
The soufflé was wonderful, and a generous amount.
The frites should have been crispier.
Kiersten was a friendly and attentive server.
The food is very tasty and the service is good. The biggest negative is lack of parking, so sometimes it's necessary to use a public parking garage several blocks away. Also, as the restaurant fills up, it becomes noisy. I find noise unappealing, not "energetic." If you haven't been to the restaurant before, it can be difficult to find. Once you overcome these logistical challenges, it's a delicious, pleasant meal.
Nice restaurant for a special occasion.
Fantastic dinner! Service was excellent as well.
Fairly high noise level when crowded. Otherwise a very nice lunch and short walk to Hemmingway birthplace. Fun day out.
Great lunch between meetings in Oak Park. Service was excellent and the Onion Soup and Quiche were delicious. Only downside was how good the fresh bread was, made it hard to limit my intake! Will for sure be back :)
My last visit is the only time I've been disappointed in the food. My request for medium rare arrived as 'medium' - other than that I always enjoy Hemmingway's
Delish high end food.Worth the price.Calm atmosphere. Will return.
You won't be disappointed. It's a beginning to end a first class experience.
High quality food at a great value, with wonderful service.
Always an excellent restaurant with quality & service level. Our nearly 10th meal with many more to come. Great staff!
I adore this little bistro. The food is always superb and the staff attentive. I have been here many times for a variety of meals, Brunch, Lunch and dinner and am always satisfied with the experience.
Food is always good, not great. Service is terrific and the atmosphere is cozy. Loved the jazz combo!
We had a wonderful date night experience. The food and service very good and the setting was wonderful. Would go back again soon!
When you want Paris and can't get there, go to Hemmingway's Bistro! The atmosphere is spot on for bistro dining. The menu has all the French classics--pate, steak frites, mousse au chocolat. But, check out the daily specials. The crab stuffed fluke with a lemon beurre blanc sauce was devine as was the raspberry souffle.
The food is good, but I can't believe the change the bread. They use to have such crunchy and teste baguette. This time they had a a mushy and tasteless bread
Lunch was delicious and the service was impeccable. I brought a friend to celebrate her birthday and the staff made it a memorable occasion.
No valet parking on Sunday but had Bastile Day menu and very busy. Much needed. Also had a singer who was way too loud and imposing. If you wanted to have a conversation...impossible.
We had a group of nine and we all really enjoyed the food, drinks and we were enjoying the atmosphere of this charming Bistro until after our dinner while we were waiting for the checks the hostess came to our table to tell us she had a group very hungry Ladies waiting for our table!
We all were really upset by this because we had not even paid our bill the service was slow in getting our checks.
We felt this was extremely rude and unprofessional!
Needless to say we will not be returning to Hemmingway’s!
Brunch was great! I thought there might be more on the buffet, but there was plenty, and it all was delicious. Being able to order an entree along with the buffer is a bonus! The buffet table is in a tight spot, however.
I went to Hemmingway’s for brunch... I think? When you go for a late morning meal on a Sunday, you’re presented with two options: breakfast or brunch. Still not clear on why there’s a difference, or what the difference is. The restaurant is basically in the basement of a hotel, and the decor (especially the back of the restaurant) is very stale. During breakfast/brunch there was live jazz playing which was great! Except that after every song all of the staff would clap loudly which is frankly bizarre and jarring in an otherwise quiet restaurant. My food was honestly pretty mediocre.
We have been to Hemingway's half a dozen times now. It has consistently been an absolutely wonderful experience.
Tom was our waiter and was on at least one other occasion. We were there with a group 9 for a birthday.
The cocktails never disappoint and they didn't this time. We each had something different and they were all yummy. The beef Wellington was exceptional and others in our party had the white fish and lamb. No downsides here.
My favorite restaurant. Food, service, ambience, always top notch.
We just love the charming atmosphere, and the food is consistently superb!
As always, perfect from start to finish! Excellent service, food, great ambiance.
Visited on my birthday with my exGF and our server, Aaron, made a bittersweet outing into a memorable occasion. From his wine recommendation, to his alternate offer (duck confit) when it turned out they'd run out of rabbit, to the Lillet he gave us to accompany our apple tart dessert, Aaron was the star of the evening. The burgundy wine was the perfect partner to the duck confit and the steak frittes we had. I took one start away because the mussels we had as an appetizer smelled a bit "off", but we still sopped up all the juices with the excellent crusty french bread they served us.
Our tab was about $175 including a bottle of wine and gratuity. The space was very nice, and you could easily picture being in a bistro in France. I will certainly go back again.
Delicious almond crusted soft shell crab, yummy raspberry souffle
Great interior, cocktails, starter...special and other entree were disappointing.
Always great food & excellent service!! Our favorite place when we visit Oak Park!
Always a pleasure to write a review for Hemmingway's Bistro as we can do every type of meal. This week was breakfast-little quieter with July 4th week but still excellent service and food servings that are always quite good. We will be back during the summer to enjoy and 'satisfy' another great meal & service.
Hemmingway's Bistro is one of my favorite restaurants in Oak Park. The atmosphere is wonderful, particularly if one is tired of places where one can't have a conversation. It is an elegant restaurant. The food is always good and imaginative. The service is very attentive, but not obtrusive. I particularly love the wilted spinach salad and the French onion soup.
Ask for Tom as your server. Great service and good pace of the meal
5 of us enjoyed a really nice meal; service was friendly and professional; menu had a great variety of starters, seafood, Chicken, beef and rabbit with traditional French preparation. Reservations at 6:30; place filled up later at 8 o’clock hour. Such a charming restaurant and food was delicious - crab cake starter, house salads, bouillabaisse was beautiful and delicious, steak frites was simple and delicious, rabbit vol au vent was gobbled up by my son.
Always an amazing meal served by wonderful, friendly & knowledgeable servers
Great meal. Well presented. Had the duck. Very well done. Had nice jazz combo on Wed. Made the ambiance even more French European.
Wilted spinach salad and dessert souffle were excellent. The sea bass and tuna were good. Service was very good. We will return
My nephews PhD celebration with his grandfather.
Our annual visit to Oak Park and our annual visit to Hemmingway’s. Never fails to deliver real cuisine in an elegant but low-key style. I enjoyed the snapper plat du jour. Delicious and nicely presented. My wife chose a couple of smaller appetizer items which were both excellent. The wine list here is modest in size but high on quality. A nice selection of French wines has become rare of late, but the choices here and available by the glass are first class. Will be back next year !
