This steak has been our house specialty since 1986. The rarest & most sought after cut. Prized for its fork cutting tenderness, its flavor is enhanced by our oak fired grill
A house specialty and our most popular appetizer. Steamed then grilled for a unique smoke flavor, seasoned with our own Magic Dust and served with a spicy smoked tomato mayonnaise
with blue cheese crumbles
Not our first time at the Hitching Post. But definitely our first time being disappointed. Will be looking for a new favorite
I reserved a table for mother's day dinner. Our party was greeted immediately and sat at the table within minutes. They had a large outdoor tent to accommodate patrons due to covid-19 precautions. Tables spaced appropriately. Server was friendly and attentive. We were immediately served a small veggie tray. Not your ordinary veggies though. It had pickle slices, olives, peppers, carrots, and onions. Fun change up to the normal starter bread tray. Ordered the grilled artichoke plate and the grilled garlic plate as appetizers. They were equally delicious, but I favored the artichokes a little more. Our table ordered chicken, filet mignon, and the grilled shrimp. All were cooked to perfection. The were served with either salad or pea soup, and a side choice of rice pilaf, baked potato, or fries. Between the four of us, we had everything. Fries were yummy, rice pilaf was good (includes almonds, which we were told by server before we ordered) and baked potato was cooked perfectly. We were also given a garlic bread basket with dinner. SO. MUCH. FOOD. but it was all amazing. This place definitely exceeded my expectations and I'm so happy for that. I definitely recommend and will be stopping in next time I'm out that way.
Very good...A little on the high $$$ side. Make a reservation!!
We are constant customers of this amazing establishment.
Service is impeccable, food is delicious, wine list is perfect, prices are very decent, dining is absolutely enjoyable all together. We are coming there for casual dining and special occasions for the last 35+ years and it’s always great. Highly recommend.
The food was just lackluster. The steak was cooked nice but the quality of the meat was not there. I realize for the price I was not going to get “prime” grade meat but the steak I had was extremely tough. The quail was in the same boat, cooked well but the quality was not there. I am not sure if there is a provider issue but I figured this place would be great to have grilled meat at and it simply was a letdown.
Santa Maria style Barbecue at its best. Grilled artichoke is killer, a must have. Great wine selection. Server was superb!! With food so good, and old western atmosphere...Perfect!! Reflection of what our great California Central Coast is all about.
The prime filet is amazing and the brownie a great finish.
Very nice restaurant and staff.
Wasn't aware we'd be dining at such a price in a parking lot. Wait staff was inattentive and the food was just so so compared to previous visits.
Excellent quality meat and expert preparation! Will come back again.
The rib-eye was not up to what it normally is. It was tender, juicy but not seasond well . The garlic bread had no garlic. Sorry to see the shrimp cocktail was not on the menu. We normal come 2-3times a year. I think we will go to hitching post 1 the next time.
You cannot find smoked meats anywhere else like you get here! Tonight we ordered ribs, duck breast and filet mignon. We are three happy diners! Always excellent in a warm, casual environment. Even in Covid times.
My 8 ounce fillet was perfectly cooked, medium rare. The beef was of the highest quality. Luckily, the seasoning was available for sale so I bought it too. The Hitching Post Pinot Noir is some of the best Santa Barbara County has to offer. A little expensive but you can't buy this quality of steak anywhere.
One of the best dining experiences in the Valley. If you haven't been here yet, put it on your list.
I hadn’t been to Hitching Post II in years so I was excited to see if my good memories of this restaurant met my expectations. We started with the grilled quail appetizer which was delicious, followed by New York Steak with duck and baked potato, all very good. The wine and service were also good. Seating in the outdoor tent was a little dark and chilly so I’d say that was the one main drawback. And like everything else, prices seem to have gone up a bit. I’m looking forward to another visit indoors post-COVID.
I haven't been to HP2 since before COVID, so I was excited to go back. The service and food are every bit as good as I remember! For wine, we did the HP wines tasting... so we got to try the rosé plus 2 pinots. All very good! Then for dinner, we got the Angus Rib Chop (which is a special and meant to be split between 2 people because it is HUGE) with 2 salads and a baked potato. The attentive server recommended we get the cut cooked to medium rare and she was 100% right. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious with a beautifully caramelized crust on the outside. Dinner paired PERFECTLY with a Syrah we had picked up from Foley earlier that day. My mouth is watering now 2 days later just thinking about it! Then for dessert we split a creme brûlée and a Port. My only fault would be the tent itself; due to COVID, they've had to move a lot of the tables out into the parking lot, and it gets cold out there at night. But I honestly think they're doing the best they can given the circumstances. This was SUCH a special, memorable dinner!!
Always have enjoyed our meal and service but last night was a disappointment. It felt like we were at a coffee shop with below average service from our waitress and freezing at our table in the tent area. Our relish tray had some old carrots. Our garlic appetizer was tasty as it has been in the past. Our salad was served on a bread plate so it was difficult to even keep the lettuce and the croutons on the plate. Our filet was so charcoaled it made the experience with the filets all we could taste.
This was our anniversary and wish we had made reservations elsewhere. We were in and out in about an hour.
Was really looking forward to enjoying a special dinner to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We added in the reservation that it was our anniversary but no one in the restaurant ever acknowledged or asked. Service was really disappointing in that we had a tiny table and was very noisy due to large groups. Wait staff was not as attentive as we would have liked. The food was excellent, as well as the House Red wine that we ordered. Would not recommend eating here if you are looking for a romantic spot, best for groups of people.
Server and food was excellent
Food was excellent. Service was impeccable, our server was very accommodating. Was surprised with a Birthday dessert ( Might have put birthdate on Open Table. Husband said he knew nothing about it
I believe that the steaks at the Hitching Post may well be the best steaks on the planet. The Natural Ribeye was my steak of choice on this visit and it was grilled perfectly. Tender and flavorful!! The salads are fresh and very tasty. The Key Line Pie was delicious. Jenevieve was our waitress and did a fantastic job taking care of us. The Hitching Post II is a must visit restaurant if you are in the area!
Amazing as always.... Celebrated my husband’s birthday and he was truly satisfied... This is our “go to spot” when wine tasting in the Santa Ynez valley!!!
Honestly the best steak I've ever had. It was very tender and cooked perfectly, rare on the inside with a nice crust on the outside. The rest of the meal was great too, I especially loved the salad and garlic bread. We came here because of the movie Sideways, so had no idea how the food would be and were very happy! Our waitress and the rest of the staff were really friendly. The decor is tacky but doesn't take away from the ambiance, and its a steakhouse near Solvang, so thats to be expected. Also $8 martinis! We will go out of our way to come back to the Hitching Post II.
I made this reservation for my nephew and his significant, they had never been to the Hitching Post. It was magnificent !! they said. The meal was cooked to perfection
Thank you Hitching Post for giving my family a wonderful dinner
It was perfect
Great experience. We were worried when we checked in because there were a lot of people waiting for tables. But after a short delay, we were seated at a nice table indoors as we had specified on the open table reservation. Steaks were cooked to our liking. We also had the pork chop which was savory. Two desserts, both excellent. All in all a great evening at a classic!
Did not care for the cocktail (Old Fashion) we had.
It had a maraschino cherry large slice of orange and taste watered down.
The meal we had was excellent!!
Great steak, wine, server Gina, not super busy and clean.
Morgan was a wonderful server!
Service was terrific, staff very accommodating & outdoor space was adequate with nice tent, but it was very cold & breezy without sufficient heaters to provide enough warmth.
Please bring back the cracker basket and include the soup. Stop using Covid as an excuse for everything.
First time there! Great food! Great service! Definitely come back...
No shrimp cocktails. Big tent with no ambiance. Prices rise, rise, rise and portions shrink. Not a fun experience.
Covid tent was COLD-bring a warmer coat than you think you need! Parking lot decorated as best they could, appreciated the safety precautions.
Great food, great service..decor could use updating..especially the restroom
I always love and enjoy their food and this time was no exception. Filet, filet, filet! Yummmm😁
Always excellent service and very well spaced out inside and lovely outside patio area.
Server was not very friendly at the beginning. Very dry. Didn't explain the menu very well.
Steaks are cooked to perfection! Always a pleasure dining here.
We came here for our anniversary dinner. Steak was so delicious, I highly recommend. The place is very close to Solvang.
The service was outstanding! The food was not up to our expectations.
