This steak has been our house specialty since 1986. The rarest & most sought after cut. Prized for its fork cutting tenderness, its flavor is enhanced by our oakfired grill
A house specialty and our most popular appetizer. Steamed then grilled for a unique smoke flavor, seasoned with our own Magic Dust and served with a spicy smoked tomato mayonnaise
Always awesome food!!!
Just so charming...the food was delicious. We look forward to our next visit.
Bartenders were so nice and accommodating. Had a great experience!
Always solid and a must stop on the way north or south on 101.
Service was great. I which I remember our server name. But she was fantastic! We ordered stakes. Temp was fine but the seasoning we did not care for. They should ask if seasoning is ok.
Great night! The outside tented earring area was very nice and cozy. The heater was a welcome addition.
Great food and great wine! Service was also great!
We enjoyed our recent dinner here. I had one of the best filet mignon steaks that I can remember. My wife enjoyed her top sirloin, too. There is good value here with the dinners including soup or salad and accompaniments. It's a very popular restaurant for good reason!
Sue Merchant was fabulous as our server. As always, the food, wine and service was outstanding.
service was spectacular food was so good! totally enjoyed!
Ordered a bottle of wine and a nice dinner. Spent close to $140 but felt we were being pushed out to accommodate the next group. The value isn’t there. Underwhelmed.
The food was amazing! Service was on point and drinks were yummy.
My family and I had an enjoyable dinner at Hitching Post. The steaks and service were the outstanding. And, yes, we would dine here again.
Amazing! Food was so yummy and service was wonderful. Great evening.
The area we sat in had dozens of flies on the ceiling and walls. When I asked the server she said she didn’t notice. Not something I would like ant to experience again
One of my most favorite places to eat at on the Central Coast. Food is always great, service great.
Excellent as usual
Great food and the prices are reasonable.
Always so good
It was delicious. Magic stuff seasoning is truly magic. Mushrooms were super good.
Amazing like always!! The food & service are phenomenal!!!
Dinner with relatives in town. We had a great timr
Started at the bar at 4PM...service was terrific as were the mushroom appetizers . The wine was very good as usual. The bartender treated everyone like old friends.
I ordered the 48oz sirloin, rare. It was cooked to perfection however it was tough as nails and full of gristle. I really had to 'saw' my way through it. It had flavor but took quite an effort to cut through it. The baked potato was cooked perfect, however it was tiny compared to what they used to serve.....rather large spuds. The dessert (apple cobbler) was excellent !
I cannot say enought about the service. Genevieve was friendly and knows the menu inside and out. She was there for every customer in the dining room and spared no effort to make the customers requests fulfilled. I think 'Genevieve' spells her name with a "J".
The food at Hitching Post is delicious but the service is horrible. We sat for a good 15 minutes before anyone ask for a drink order, another 20 before she returned to take our dinner order, and never returned to give us our check. we had to find a manager to get us a check because our waitress clearly was ignoring us. She walked by the table several times, however just kept walking. I would understand if the place was extremely busy, but it was not. Unfortunately, we will not return.
Excellent food and service. Outdoor dining. Highly recommend!
So delicious! This place was awesome. Outside, in a tent, so we felt safe.
We'll be back!
Steak and short ribs were great. Service was excellent. We were located in the tent which was covered well and seating was separated nicely. We recommend it.
We know everyone is understaffed and trying their best, but we've been to the Hitching Post several times in the past and it was always excellent. This time, not even very good. Our server was extremely friendly but he just had too many tables. It took a very long for anyone to come to our table at the start. It took a very long time to get our drinks. The food was fine, but not up to the usual standard. And we also had to wait until we were well into our meal for the wine to arrive even though we had ordered it long before. The food presentation was simply plain. Duck breast and some not very good fries scattered on the plate. This had been our go-to place when we visit the area but probably not any more.
Steak and lobster tail were very good, as were sides and soup. Chocolate cake was dry and flavorless. Enjoyed the Brave and Maiden Cabernet off of the list which is surprisingly short on big wines to go with big meat. Ambiance outdoors is terrible, we moved inside. Recommend one eats here at least once if they visit SB Wine Country often. BTW, I hated Sideways ;-)
Didn’t know outside seating meant in a tent in the parking lot, wasn’t too stoked about that. Husband’s pork chop wasn’t fully cooked, had to send back.
Once we were sited the waitress took a while to get our drink order. We only were checked on once and we ran out of drinks and were never offered another.
A legend. The decor is simple and homey, and has an appropriate country western theme given it's rural N Santa Barbara location. In my view, the only thing to order here are Chef Frank Ostini's oak grilled steaks. The grilled quail (and fresh fish) is also outstanding. The rest of the menu is meh.
Hitching Post wines (Pinot Noir) are known statewide. The Stanford & Benedict Pinot Noir is outstanding.
Great steaks, great wine, simple food, simple decor... all matched beautifully with local Santa Barbara County wines!
Probably the best filet I have ever had. Cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Service was great. Does not disappoint.
Great steaks. My filet mignon was cooked perfectly. The tortilla soup was delicious. Wait staff was great.
Great food and service. Ambience was a bit lackluster due to Covid. Great wine prices.
Good food and service but the atmosphere was blah.
I have long wanted to visit your Paul Giamatti, Thomas Hayden Church, and Virginia Madsen restaurant and we were not disappointed with our experience. I rated the outdoor ambiance only 4 stars because it was not very pretty but had great acoustics for noise level. Food was great (our Filets Mignon and baked potatoes). Can’t wait to come again on our next trip!
