A very pleasant experience with lovely flavours delivered in sensible portions. Decent wine list. Attentive service.
Host is consistently good , superb dishes and flavours and a glorious well priced wine list.
Very good, cannot complain many thanks
Fab! Love love love the fried chicken (have had on each of my 3 visits) and the mussels were gorgeous. I have thought in the past that it was a bit pricey but didn’t on this visit. I think that was because dish mainly consisted on one carrot which felt a bit stingy! But can’t fault the quality. My friends loved it too. Love the decor too.
This wa our first visit to Host, but will definitely not be our last. The food was generally very good, and a couple of dishes - the Kashmiri Cauliflower and the Honey Cake - were outstanding!
Consistently great food, good service and excellent value for money. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I have eaten at Host on several occasions and it is always really lovely, great food and service
Sorry but food very rich and to share a few plates makes a mix of too many flavours.
Great food, we were the only diners though, would have been better with a little more activity...
The food is always fantastic.
We were served by 3 different waiting staff. We had to ask for our bread and for empty glasses to be taken away “. We don’t like overly attentive service but we were left for long periods in a very quiet restaurant. The 3rd member of staff who served us and had just started her shift was really lovely and seemed good at her job. It’s a shame we didn’t have her for the whole of our late lunch. Two of our courses were delicious (duck and celeriac courses), not so keen on the chicken and baked cauliflower. Think we would give Saturdays a miss from now on but we’ve heard the Sunday lunch is good so maybe that’s the best day to go.
A lovely spot with absolutely delicious food and drink, will certainly be returning.
The staff were very attentive , courteous and helpful . The ambience a few weeks before Christmas was festive without being intrusive , other clientele were friendly yet respectful creating a warm , inclusive atmosphere .
The food was " to die for " , the best Sunday roast I have ever had ( I am 62 yrs old ) . Everything tasted fantastic with the vegetable dishes being especially exciting .
I would highly recommend Host to anyone looking for a very high standard of cuisine in a comfortable environment at an excellent price .
Excellent food and service. Decided on the Christmas Menu. Was amazing
Fabulous food in a lovely contemporary space. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely return.
I booked Host as we were in the area for the day and I have to say the food completely blew my husband and I away. We both like good food and have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the world (according to Michelin etc) so we think we have a pretty good idea of what good food is. Every single plate we ordered at Host was exceptional, perfectly cooked, interesting, well presented and just plain delicious. The restaurant itself is really gorgeous, very relaxed and all the staff were lovely. I wish this restaurant was closer to where we live - we would be there ALL the time.
Warm welcome for a Saturday lunchtime. Imaginative and innovative menu, delicious food and very good beers and wines served by keen and enthusiastic staff. All combined to deliver a superb all experience.
Residents and visitors to Ilkley, do yourselves a big favour and eat at Host soon.
It was very pleasing to have a range of dishes which were very different from the common run of restaurant fare. The meal was enjoyable and varied.
Always a brilliant meal at Host. Great tasting high quality food with attentive staff. Brilliant every time
Sunday lunch, superb food, drink, dessert and service
Definitely will revisit
Superb service and excellent food. Marvellous gluten free selection and the homemade bread was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended and will definitely be coming back here
We enjoyed an excellent meal. You need to order two to three dishes each so it is based on a tapas model although I would not say it is strictly a tapas restaurant. Each of the dishes served was of excellent quality, well presented and extremely well cooked. Wine choices were good and overall I would say that the cost was extremely reasonable. Our meal was around £30 a head for two dishes each and one side order, a dessert each and a good bottle of wine. In Ilkley, aside from the Box Tree, there are very few restaurants that serve really good food. I would say two or three and this is one of them.
Booked with friends from out of area and had an excellent evening at Host.
We thought the food was delicious: perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Our waitress, Melinda, was super and gave very helpful guidance on how many dishes we might need.
The meal was on the pricey side, so we would probably choose it for an occasional treat rather than as a regular destination; and we did have almost all the main course dishes on the menu, so we hope the menu will be changed regularly to avoid boredom!
We loved the decor (gorgeous blue walls) and the restaurant was impressively busy, if a little noisy at times.
Overall, a real culinary treat, thank you!
Really delicious lick the plate clean kind of food!
The staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu. The food was delicious and a bit different. The space is lovely, spacious and stylish. We would definitely return.
The meal was excellent with 4 people sharing most of the dishes, would probably struggle if we returned too soon unless the menu was changed
Never eaten here before . visited with a girlfriend at lunchtime. There was one very noisy birthday group and another pair of women. The restaurant echoes all noise. My friend moved to another side of the table to be able to hear me speak
Bleak unwelcoming place and the food was dreadful. We had a "plate" of fishcakes each . hardly any fish in. Mushy we ate them because we were hungry. My other plate was a carrot. Who are you kidding. A glazed carrot ???! We were asked if we had enjoyed our meal ... No, and explained why.
We will never eat here again and cannot reccomend.
The food was, quite simply, outstanding!! Can’t wait to come back.
Excellent food and service. Had a celebratory lunch not having been before and we were not disappointed
The food was fantastic. We were very impressed. Service was excellent too. Only disappointment was the ambience as there weren’t many other diners, so it was a little quiet.
Superb food. Astonishing combinations of flavours. Very good value for this standard of cooking. Wine list fairly priced. Staff both friendly and efficient. Wonderful experience.
Whilst t he cooking is good, the portion sizes are too small. The tapas idea just is not working.
I would like to suggest a different menu
Really delicious food, friendly staff, reasonably priced. Would happily visit again.
Highly recommended. My one negative comment would be that it gets quite noisy in the restaurant with everyone's chatter reverberating off the hard surfaces.
Delicious interesting food. Beautifully presented. Service was attentive and friendly. Warm and welcoming. But not over the top.
Lovely interesting food for people who can’t decide - have a small dish of everything!
Group of 3 on a Friday evening, pleasing decor except for the hanging curtain rail, warm, friendly service but not quite as ‘smart’ as might be anticipated for the venue. We were happy with the small plates concept on which the restaurant is based and the dishes were generally well executed. Maybe a few more ‘main’ plates could be added to the menu to increase choice. We selected fried chicken, lamb rump and hake as ‘main’ dishes, preceded by 4 snacks and accompanied by 3 small plate vegetables. Also a decent bottle of white wine. We shared 2 deserts which were especially enjoyable by virtue of their originality. We skipped coffees. The bill for the evening was just over £100, so about £33pp which we considered fair for the overall quality of the food and restaurant ambience.
Overall impression, an enjoyable meal and an experience but not quite living up to expectations raised by a recent outstanding Yorkshire Post review. The competition is intense these days and Host is well placed to be ‘up there with them’ but may need to adopt a slightly more professional style of service, increase meat and fish menu options and styles, eg brochettes, pasta, ensure sauces are consistently flavoursome, but without hiking charges. Just our opinion, of course, and we expect to return and wish Host every success in the future.
Lovely restaurant, food excellent
Four of us had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at Host. The atmosphere was great, lively without being overpowering and just the right level of lighting. The staff were very professional and discreet in their service. We ordered most of the main plates and they came steadily in groups of three or four which we shared and enjoyed every one of them. I particularly liked the sea trout, the carrots and the chicken. Our only disappointment was that we ordered the sharing steak dish which unfortunately had run out but was still on the menu given to us. My son and his wife, who are used to high-end dining in London, were hugely impressed and are looking forward to another meal her when they next visit. A hugely successful night.
I really enjoyed the food as its fabulous quality. I really enjoyed the carrot dish and I would have loved another one as it was so good.
Service was fine but maybe could have been more attentive - we did have to ask several times for a water refill. Our only real niggle is that the restaurant is really noisy and we struggled to hear our selves - I do think the restaurant could do more to improve the acoustics
Excellent food, good service, and reasonably priced. My only negative is that the acoustics made it very noisy at peak times.
