We have dined here several times before. The food is always great and the service excellent.
Great gem of a restaurant! Food was great. Steak cooked to perfection and the lobster was cooked perfectly. My wife usually has to send the lobster back for being over cooked, but not here! The only thing that wasn't perfect was the couscous. Other than that a great time.
Hard to say what's better - the food or service. Both are outstanding.
Halibut was excellent! My husband had the Frenced Beef Ribeye that he said was very flavorful but a little tough. They have an unconventional Raspberry Margarita that is original and delicious; it has raspberry liquor-infused ice cubes, instead of crushed ice.
Always a great meal, with great service.
Ordered the special at 6:30 to find out it was sold out. My guest said that the mushrooms which were a side dish didn’t taste right – sweet. Not very many vegetarian dishes. In fact, only one and that was under seasoned.
I have been at the restaurant several times, and always enjoyed the food. This time, generally speaking, it was not up to par.
I am a Northbrook resident of 20 years and am so happy to have a great go-to restaurant where
the food is consistently good, service wonderful, space classy but not stuffy and the owners are welcoming and attentive. Thank you!
Loved my salmon! Very creative combination.
Prices are high!! $18 burger ordered medium rare was delivered medium well, fries have a funny flavor. Shrimp flatbread good, salads fine. We sat outside so it was quiet. Our server was probably the best I’ve had anywhere. Even though we were last group by far (long time friends on a night out), we were NEVER hurried and and the staff was so gracious. For that reason alone I may go back.
One of our favorite restaurants closed about a year ago and we were looking for a replacement. House 406 was recommended and we had our birdie dinners there. Outstanding food and ambiance. The cocktails were wonderful as well. Thank you for a great meal and memorable evening.
great what more can I say Great
Great food, Great service. Waiter saw my wife carrying a wedding album and he brought us complementary champagne for our anniversay. The best part is we never told anyone it was our anniversary. Great Service
Overall food and ambience was great. Waiter was wonderful but I think overtasked with tables. I would recommend.
I’ve been here twice now in the last month for celebrations and both times the food was incredible. The first visit was inside and this past visit we sat outside on the patio. Different vibes for sure, but both were relaxed, cozy and comfortable. The lobster tail is the best lobster I’ve ever had—I ordered it both times because it was incredible, as was the filet, potatoes and veggies with it. I previously had the cream of mushroom soup (so yummy!), and my SO had the vegetarian French onion soup. It is uncommon to have that option for a vegetarian and he was delighted by how delicious it was. Overall, terrific food, great attentive staff, fun vibe. We had Scott serving us this week and he was fantastic and fun. Will definitely be repeat customers, and I’m so glad Northbrook has this wonderful spot! Jen the owner is doing a wonderful job!
LOVE the burrata bruschetta!
Loved the music, I think they could use one more waiter to speed service but food was city quality and the whiskey flights are a nice change of pace. Was a nice night out with the family
We went to House 406 for Mother's Day brunch. It was our first experience dining there. The food was exceptional and a service was very friendly and professional.
We will be meeting out of town friends there in 2 weeks. We look forward to House 406's dinner menu!
2nd time at this restaurant and we were all blown away by the quality of the cocktails and dinner. Went with another couple on a busy Saturday night and had a very nice experience. It started with the hostess getting us cocktails since the bar was jammed. The drinks were added to our dinner tab so that was seamless. Dinner was really very good. Learned that the "406" in the name is a reference to Montana from the woman who owns the restaurant. That's why the meat courses are highlighted. I had salmon while the others had beef. All was very good and everyone commented on how happy they were with their meals. My wife's mushrooms that came with her strip steak were my highlight. Only weakness was a quiet and not very helpful waiter. That said, we'll be back.
The food was not good. The server dropped off my French onion soup and said, “it’s very hot” when really the bowl was hot but the soup was not. We ordered the shrimp & cilantro flatbread and it was basically pizza with shrimp on it. Had red sauce, no cilantro and was not very good. It was not as advertised. The crab cakes were ok but not hot. The service was good and our server felt bad the food was not good. I had high hopes but this was over priced and needs work.
Delicious food and cocktails. Well appointed interior styling definitely makes you forget that this restaurant is in a strip mall. Noise level is VERY loud (our only negative).
First time ever at the restaurant and was very impressed. The food was really quite good. I had the crab cakes and they were some of the best in the area with more crab than usual and really good flavor. My husband had the white fish and the portion was plentiful. Like the warm home made rolls served with appetizers. We did not have any desert. Drinks were good but not great. Service was good. Great place to meet another couple and enjoy the food and conversation. Will definitely try again!
This place is beautiful and the service, when there, is great. But the servers are like the restaurant - just “missing” at the times and places when you’d want them to deliver. Menu looks great - food is bland and lacking. Servers are delightful but seldom around. This place has potential - just needs a bit more effort to get it to where it could be.
Some of the best food on the north shore, hands down. Great service, with a team that has been together for a while and acts like a family. Highly recommended.
Enjoyed a lovely Anniversary Dinner - 406 did a Great job!!
Lovely place with friendly service. Food is really unimpressive.
Seated in banquette that helped subdue the noise level
I think the pours for wine could be a bit more generous for the price
Food well prepared
Always very good food. Service was slow tonight, Thursday.
Very cozy with amazing food and service.
I enjoyed the food and drinks a lot. However, our server was almost condescending in his remarks to our table, possibly because it was a younger group of women? Our server was Scott. His attitude definitely took away from the experience.
Our dinner was excellent. Feel great about having this so close by.
Yes I would definitely recommend this place. It’s a family run restaurant, the owner is very nice. The staff is so polite and accommodating. The food was awesome too! I had a wonderful experience here.
Great place that you always feel comfortable in. Our waiter Scott feels like an old friend without being intrusive. I dream about their Old Fashioneds. Everything we've tried has exceeded our expectations.
Good writer service. Kitchen was slow.
It's a nice, relatively small, upscale restaurant and the food is quite good. Enjoyed Mushroom soup, mussels, Horseradish crusted whitefish, etc. The problem was our waiter who seemed to be rushing us to place our orders (and perhaps not understanding English very well) but most of all - THE NOISE level is just too much. Maybe we're just getting too old - just don't feel like shouting to communicate.
Excellent food (steaks, scallops, pasta dishes) and service. Small and noisy bar. Seating isn't particularly comfortable. But food quality wins out.
I always go for the Lobster Crostini, One of the best, most decadent appetizers there is. If they made it a main course I would order that too. My wife had the mushroom soup w/a drizzle of truffle oil in it. Very good! Main courses were the Seafood Risotto for my wife and I had the Brisket/Short Rib Burger. Risotto had delicious flavor but I thought the rice was a little to al dente. Burger was delicous, great combo of the 2 meats.
The food is always outstanding, Our server, Scott, is superior in every way.
Spectacular food and staff.
Great find and the food and service was fantastic!! Will be going back alot.
