Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House - Chicago
Just do it - go to Hugo’s and enjoy the superb crab cakes and see the great service in action
Our waiter Simon was amazing! He was efficient recommended menu items and had a great sense of humor! I was the only one of 4 that had dined at Hugo’s before and they all loved this dining experience! Thank you to Simon for making our evening a great one! All waiters should be like Simon!
Best night of our trip. One of the best nights ever. Our favorite place. Brilliant.
Absolutely phenomenal. Have not been here in 15 yrs and it’s exactly how I remember it. Can’t wait to go back.
We visited on a Saturday evening. We were shown promptly to our table. Our waiter was wonderful - very informative and attentive. We didn't realize that you could order from the Gibson's menu as well if you were in the mood for steaks rather than seafood. Our water glasses were filled, bread was brought promptly, food served within a reasonable time frame. The food was great - we had calamari, grilled shrimp, and crab cakes, all was very fresh and quite good. Would definitely recommend.
Classic Chicago steak and seafood restaurant with a great vibe!
I love the atmosphere here. It's a buzz for sure. Super glad I made reservations. The food was excellent. The Blueshell Oysters, sauteed frog legs, spicy shrimp to start. We love to try it. We also ordered the Steak, burger, dijon shrimp, and salmon. All wonderful. The only thing to improve was the service. I was so surprised. Everyone else seemed to have good service. He was a bit offputting. Very sarcastic. My brother asked for a Bahama Mama, which is not a great drink for sure, but dont make him feel bad. The server said "what's in that"? It was just nasty. That just left a bad taste in my mouth.
Our waiter was outstanding and made great suggestions. The he food was delicious. I had the spicy crusted tuna which I would recommend to anyone who likes a bit of spice. I would definitely go back next time I am in town!
Waiter was very busy
Service and food always great, but our last visit was VERY NOISY
Pretty hoppin’ place (pun intended) we dined at 8:00 at night on a Sunday. There was a lot of people and the staff was very attentive. We will return next time we are in Chicago
Excellent food and service!!!
Family of nine. All the seafood and steak entrées were excellent! Top-notch service from Brian. Strong first visit.
Food was ok. Waiter was the worst.
Always fun in the bar area. Excellent pianist playing music from Sinatra to present. Great service. The whitefish is great and they give a huge portion of the mashed potatoes. Broccolini was too Spivey. Desert HUGE!!
Great spot. Super food and service. Server was fun and we met lots of nice patrons in the bar and in the restaurant. Fun evening.
Food was great as usual. Our service was nothing exceptional to mention and altered our whole experience. Still love Hugo’s and will be back
I’ve been here a dozen times (and twice that much to Gibson’s). Top shelf experience at top shelf prices. Good time to be on an expense account. This is where I take special guests or family celebrations. Top shelf service. You like to dip bread in the Shrimp de Jonge? Good choice, we shared the entree order as an appetizer. I had the delicious Walleye Pike, yummy yummy.
My wife and brought our 10 year old grandson to Chicago for the weekend. Hugo’s met every expectation. The wait staff went out of there way to make it a special evening. When we are in Chicago we are regulars at Gibson’s and Hugo’s. They never fail to impress.
Went for Father’s Day for early dinner seating. Had to move our table away from the hallway to one of the many better open tables. Waiter was abrupt and not as welcoming as you may expect for a nice steak place. The miso sea bass was not very good. Had much better at other places. Some of side dish portions were large while others were small, not quite family sized. Steak was excellent and desert too.
We love this place... my Dad was so happy he said he’s never been to a steakhouse this fancy and everyone was super friendly. Thanks for such a great experience!
Walleye and yellow perch were excellent!
Service was quick.
One of our very favorite places to dine in Chicago. Excellent soup (Clam Chowder and Bookbinders) and the fried shrimp and crab cakes are not to be missed.
Perfect except our small round table for four was by the kitchen door.
Both my fish and another person’s 10 oz filet totally over cooked. I had suggested that we got there and was embarrassed by the food.
Apart from the fact that they altered our reservation time by 30-mins (supposedly as a result of a phone call that I had not made), the food and overall experience was great.
Parents were in town
The perch would be better fried in Panko bread crumbs.
Could not have been better. I went there many years ago and it is better than I had imagined. I brought 6 friends and they too were blown away.
Once again, Hugo's didn't fail to impress. Great service, timing, and overall good experience for my guests.
As other reviewers have noted Hugo’s atmosphere is exuberant. The food is good but with the exception of the crab cakes nothing stands out to make this place a culinary destination. Service was excellent.
I cannot say enough positive words about this establishment! Adam M, one of the managers, is very personable that he now feels like family than a manger at our favorite restaurant. Actually all of the managers here are that way with us. The best part is this trickles down to all other staff members; the warm, Hospitable and caring ways they treat and show you that they are glad you are there as well as treating you special. Kudos to everyone at the Hugo Team! You all are quite a rare jewel!
I cannot day enough fantastic things about Hugo’s!!! From all of the wonderful, warm, friendly staff to the excellent food to the fun, lively atmosphere, Hugo’s is a establishment you’ll want to frequent often!
we have been dining here since they opened and everything has been perfect. we brought people
from la., sat outside and unfortunately the service was not good and it changed the entire evening.
also, we were charged for something that came with the dinner, i noticed this after we left and will
address it, when we return this week. this is the first time we experienced this and hope that it will
not happen again. i "always" recommend this place and will continue to in hopes that this was a one
time situation. apparently this server was not the norm for this restaurant group.
Our waiter was terrific....very attentive and responsive. The frog legs were great and the crab cakes were fabulous! I graded down overall due to seating. My girlfriend and I were directed to seating UNDER the stairs in a dark corner booth when we are not dark corner girls by any means. I didn’t stand for it, moved to the table of our choice, but did not appreciate it IN THE LEAST. There were PLENTY of open tables!
Typical Old School Chicago seafood/steak place. Attended with some work colleagues. We all ate fish. Tuna was to go-to at the table and everyone was pleased. I ordered crab cakes. They were very good. All crab. Very little filler. Excellent. Served with fries...not so excellent. Overall it was good not great. Give it a try.
Was a wonderful culinary experience from beginning to end. Was seated early, then service spectacular. Best clam chowder I have ever had....and crab legs were sensational!
Server was a little rude and left much to be desired. We were celebrating a birthday and he didn’t make the occasion feel special. Food was great just wish the service matched.
