Over half of our group’s food was served cold, but the service was so slow that it wasn’t worth sending it back. Restaurant was half full. Portion sizes for brunch were smallish so we asked for some additional sides, those took forever to come out and were also somehow served cold. Server was friendly but unfortunately it was not a good experience.
First of all, I need to start this review with I’m TOTALLY biased when it comes to this place. Hutch, in Andersonville, is my GO TO brunch spot. The service is always incredible and the food is always on point. This particular day the staff went out of their way to accommodate my dining experience. The weather was dicey but the forecast said there wouldn’t be rain until 2pm so my friend and I went for brunch at 11:30am and brought my dog along because they have a great dog-friendly patio. Of course Mother Nature didn’t cooperate with us and it started to rain while we were sitting outside. The manager grabbed a server and they moved the sun umbrellas over our table. Believe it or not, this worked PERFECTLY! My friend and I stayed perfect rly dry and comfortable and my pup was happy too. Some of the other servers and hostess braved the rain to check on us and play with my dog. I love that they change their menu seasonally so there’s always something new to try but they always keep the “go-to’s” if you’re not feeling adventurous. I’m not sure if the team at Hutch will see this review but in case they do, I wanted to do thank you for being you. You guys are awesome!
We were there early (5:30) and it was super quiet. The staff in particular our server, were terrific. Good recommendations for appetizers, drinks and dinner. I had steak and fries and the steak melted in my mouth. It is not a glitzy place, but comfortable and a good choice for meeting friends.
Our experience here was excellent! Great service, food came out fresh and quick. Great place for brunch with friends, family and is still kid friendly! Cute outdoor seating, indoor table seating and a breakfast bar. Best part is they take reservations!
For the price point, the food wasn’t that special. It wasn’t bad, but it certainly had no factors that made it unique. We got fish tacos and the hamburger. You can get better fish tacos from at least 3 other surrounding restaurants, and same with the burger. The French fries also tasted like the oil they were fried in was more suited for donuts, as the French fries tasted more like a donut than a potato product.
The wine was good. The service was on top of it. Just the food needs some help.
I had the kitchen bowl with blackened tuna steak. It was fresh and delicious. The tuna was perfectly cooked. The service was professional and personable. This is a great neighborhood restaurant. Great cocktails and outdoor seating too!
Loud inside-opted for outside...
Great food and cocktails, wonderful service. We had a large group, and the staff was very accommodating.
My first dining experience here for dinner wasn't ideal as I found their dinner menu muddled with slightly awkward food pairings. I have to say though this was one of the best brunch experiances I can remember, and I would say hands down the best in Andersonville after over two decades living there. The food was great for our entire party, my bloody mary was spot on and no problems getting a high chair for the tot. We have a new goto with Hutch and can't wait for our next free weekend to stop in with friends.
They forgot to bring our appetizer. No apologies. Food was bland. (Fish tacos and kitchen bowl (farro) with tuna). The following day I was in the bathroom constantly. Can’t blame it directly to the food at Hutch but that was the only thing I ate/drank the night before.
The food was delicious. Hutch was a great find. We will definitely go back!
The host was so rude it was almost hilarious. Our server was slow and inattentive. The food couldn’t compensate for the terrible service.
It was one of the worst service experiences we've had dining in Chicago. We made a reservation for 5:30 and were able to be seated around 5:20. It's not a big place but it was obvious from the start that the one server working was struggling. We placed food and drink orders around 5:30 and then the waiting begins. Drinks were brought out 10-15 mins later. An hour after placing our order for three burgers, we finally get our food. I had to ask for condiments for our burgers and fries. The server returns with a mustard, mayo, and only one ketchup for the three burgers and fries we were eating. I immediately asked for more ketchup and we waited close to 10 minutes. The table next to us ordered dessert after our request was made and they received their dessert before we got ketchup. I had to get the attention of another worker to finally get ketchup. I also mentioned to the original server that my wife didn't like the wine she recommended but it fell on deaf ears. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the server and she responded service isn't usually like that. She brought the check and it wasn't correct. My daughters meal was suppose to be free since kids eat free and it was still on the bill. She brings a corrected version and i go to pay and the gentleman from behind the bar offers to comp the drinks for our troubles.
My wife loved her Impossible Burger and my daughter devoured her kids meal burgers. My burger was also good. I can't imagine going back when there are so many other places in Andersonville that don't have the same issues.
The food was amazing and we felt like we were in someone’s home that was cooking a meal for us. We’ll definitely come back soon.
Chicken and waffles. Very well made, although I didn’t love the butter served with it. A bit bitter. My friend had the avocado toast. Looked delicious! They were great with my kids, accommodating and very cool. Easy to park. Nice ambiance.
It was my first visit to this location of Hutch and was extremely pleased with the service (Aiden was great), atmosphere and food. Definitely will be back!
It’s cool. Food and wine was good, and service was quick and pleasant. Too noisy though.
Fantastic service, yummy food, great drinks, and reasonable prices. We will be back :)
We actually stopped into Hutch the night before to get an idea about their brunch menu. Fell in love with the ambiance & staff immediately and decided to stay for dinner in that moment. Food and Service were both amazing and we left there very much looking forward to the next days brunch with the family!
Sunday Brunch was amazing, delightful, fun and filling! My daughter and future son-in-law are both in the food service industry, Samantha a bartender/server & Greg a chef, so they both REALLY know and appreciate good food, drinks & service. They were both super impressed and, yes, they purchased a six- pack for the kitchen staff! Since dining there Saturday & Sunday I have told about 6 people to check out Hutch! We’ll definitely be back!
We enjoyed a great brunch, we'l be back. The breakfast pizza was tasty.
Fun place for a group of friends to hangout. After brunch wander next door to Meeting House to carry on the party.
Hutch Andersonville didn't hit on all points compared to its Lakeview sister we've been to multiple times. That being said it was still good. The low points were service was slow; as well, food delivery and the restaurant wasn't busy. My husband ordered a salty dog, which was good albeit the salted rim was a bit heavy. We had a glass of Meiomi Pinot Noir, was hoping for the 2016, but the 2017 came out and it was still quite good, and was priced very reasonably -- a high point most of the wines were reasonably priced compared to usual mark up from retail. The food was very tasty. We had the Hitch Fries as a starter / compliment to the salads we ordered -- truffle fries with briscuit, cheese and other deliciousness -- the fries could have been a bit more crisp. We had the chopped salad with chicken and steak wedge salad. Steak was cooked nicely and both salads were otherwise tasty. We'd go back.
Outdoor seating in warmer weather amazing. Drinks were delicious and nicely poured. Lively atmosphere. Negative was we were seated for over 15 min before we got asked for drink orders and then it took time for them to arrive. Once we got orders in everything sped up and improved. We will be back.
I was there on April 18 and April 20. On April 20th, I walked in the door and waited awhile before I was greeted by anyone. I had a reservation. I ordered an appetizer while I was waiting for a friend. The waiter forgot to place the order because it took 20 minutes before we received the appetizer. I ordered the Kitchen bowel with salmon for the entree. It was delicious.
On April 20th, there was a gentleman waiting to greet guests, and I was directed to my table immediately when I walked in the restaurant. Hutch was not that busy, but it took a long time for us to receive the order. We were not sure why the order took so long.
The drinks here are better than the food. Food was very basic and failed to impress in any of the ways you would expect. The cheese ball appetizer had great chips, with a hard, typical of a potluck, boring cheeseball.
I had chicken chopped salad, and one of the most boring chopped salads I have had, with no flavor, and dry chicken. My companion had a burger, and it was a basic boring burger. The worst was the dessert, cherry pie, which tasted like a microwaved piece of grocery store pie.
Definitely does not earn its price point.
Food was great. Prices were reasonable. Service was excellent.
Fabulous Freshly prepared unique dishes. Had the Lobster Eggs Benedict and fantastic potato side is a must! Highly recommend. Nice vibe and bar. Small and cozy venue.
Had a hamburger and fries. Hamburger was boring and undercooked. The "seasoned" fries were average tasty, but I expected more than just salt, on a "seasoned fry". Diet Coke tasted like cleaning supplies. Staff was nice and did their job adequatly.
We stumbled upon Hutch American Kitchen + Bar when looking for a restaurant near the Chicago Magic Lounge [note: if you've never been to the CML, you should go. Great place]. We're from the northern suburbs and did not know the neighborhood so I checked Google Maps and Hutch was the closest restaurant to the venue. What a great find. Super friendly staff, casual dining room that had a very homey feeling to it and reasonable prices. The menu was not too big which I always like since I think it's better the kitchen does a few things really well than try to a lot of things mediocre. The options were broad enough to give my vegan wife a few choices. She had the quinoa salad which was great and another person in our party got the salmon with farro. Both portions were quite large.
Overall, I highly recommend Hutch. They have a nice outdoor seating area too, though it was too cold for us when we went.
Food and service were amazing. We had a large group that kept getting larger, but the staff were so accommodating. I was nervous since we were going on a weekend, but everything worked out great. Definitely going again to try more things off the brunch menu.
Took a long time to be seated even though we had a reservation. They should not seat parties until they are complete. Very LOUD!
Service and food were very good! Also good happy hour specials.
Awesome service! The coconut pie was to die for. Excellent food overall. Noise level was high. But we will return.
Very great setting. Service was very nice. Food was delicious
One of the few brunch spots that take reservations. Good food, friendly staff and good value. Service was a tad slow but didn’t damper the brunch.
We had a nice meal and the staff was nice and everyone was nice.
food was great, the service was friendly and pretty prompt.
I go here for the drinks and the service. The food is horrible. Very few vegetarian options and what they do have is terrible. I never eat here anymore I only go for drinks after we’ve eaten elsewhere.
We made a reservation through Open Table roughly 2 weeks ahead of time because this restaurant was close to Chicago Magic Lounge. I actually went on Open Table the day before the reservation and modified the time by 15 minutes. We were in an UBER 10 minutes away from the restaurant - to arrive several minutes BEFORE our reservation when they called on our cell phone saying they “didn’t realize the restaurant was booked for a private party the entire night” and they would not honor our reservation. We had tickets for a show so it was important that we had a place/time to eat to make our showtime. We were left scrambling at the last minute trying to find a restaurant. How did they not know for weeks ahead of time - or at the very least a few hours ahead of time - that they wouldn’t honor a reservation?
Small and quaint, perfect for brunch, drinks were great and food was too. Family friendly as well.
