We were expecting a 5 star experience but often got 3 star. JPauls did not live up to the 5 star hype. You walk thru the casino crowd to get there. The bar is impressive and you might want to just stay there. The dining room is very nice but not an “Oh Wow!” You get 1 waiter and ours was good but made many mistakes. My wife ordered a wedged salad “chopped please”. The waitress had to come back and tell us that the Chef refused to chop it as it ruined his presentation. A 5 star chef knows how to present a chopped salad! JPauls chef needs training on customer service. I would rate the lobster bisque highly as I found almost a whole lobster at the bottom of the bowl. The ribeye was very good. The wagyu filet was very good but for the price difference of 32$ I would recommend the regular filet. Asparagus and Mushrooms were outstanding. Whipped potatoes were good but average. The after dinner cigar dessert was outstanding. Overall we rate JPauls Steakhouse 3 Stars out of 5

J Paul's is a wonderful addition to Reno, with poor service and declining value at the steak houses in the big 3 on Virginia St. J Paul's had it all, wonderful food and very nice ambiance. Will be going again and recommending.

Chicken parm is worst value In Reno. $38 and it didn’t even come with pasta. Spaghetti was ok, dessert was clever (after dinner cigar). Our bus boy Zachary was far and away the best part of the evening’s service.

This is a fine dining restaurant as advertised. Service was very pleasant but not really on top of it. The food was excellent. Ending the experience with cold after dinner "hot" drinks was a disappointment. Hoping the kinks will get ironed out because they did a great job with the remodel.

Food was delicious came for the thanksgiving dinner and the prime rib was amazing. They ran out of cheesecake but for the chocolate cookie cigar over all amazing service and food. Would highly recommend the place for a date night

First time to the restaurant was for Thanksgiving dinner menu. Everything was perfect, if I was to complain about anything, it would be there was not enough soup to eat and there was too much salad. We will be back!!

I dined at J Paul's last Monday night, the 20th. It was phenomenal! I was pleasantly surprised how good it was for such a new restaurant. I wanted to try out this new place, but I just didn't expect it to be so good. So, they have designed the interior fabulously. It blends a classical steakhouse feel and more modern touches. They nailed it! I love the window into the kitchen observing the grill and other happenings. Perfect to be seen, but not heard. I was seated in one of the gorgeous booths that wrap around the dining room edges. Bread service was delightful. I was served a sourdough loaf with butter topped with black sea salt. A good touch. I went with the classics for this first visit. I started with a very good lobster bisque, filled with ample lobster. It was quite a large serving in a pot. Then I had one of the best filet Mignons ever. It was so tender, I probably could have cut it with a regular knife. It was perfectly, simply seasoned, grilled to a perfect medium rare, with a bit of char to the exterior. It was per heaven! For a side, I went with the loaded baked potato. Another great choice. To finish, I went with what was essentially a deconstructed tiramisu. This was the lone food item that disappointed a bit. I think the expected flavor was lost a bit in the lack of construction. Sometimes you shouldn't mess with the traditional, especially when that works so well in the first place. They have an excellent selection of wines by the glass. I went with a fine glass of Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon. Service was professional, friendly, and attentive. Staff were all very welcoming. Impressive indeed. I found pricing to be perfectly reasonable and even a good value, for the caliber of restaurant they have endeavored to deliver. Aspirations achieved and certainly I enjoyed. I eagerly look forward to returning, again and again. They have truly successfully rebranded and launched a new destination restaurant in Reno. Thank you J Resort!

Food was very good, but it is pricey. Everything is ala carte; it seems like they could throw potatoes and a seasonal vegetable in with the entree. Service was slow and there seemed to be plenty of wait staff, it was good that we were not in a hurry.

It was Friday and thankfully had reservations. There was a party of two ahead of us that wished to dine but they were told it would be 8:30 (2 hrs from then) before they could be seated. They left and my party was then seated. The restaurant only had 6 tables seated, about 1/5, and soon found out they only had one server. So, everything took a long time and the waiter was not able to be as attentive as is expected for a medium to high priced restaurant for our area. I never once saw or heard from a manager. Also, the waiter was very flippant, possibly due to his mood from being the only waiter, but the comment he made to my daughter when she asked to see the dessert menu, which I didn’t hear but the rest of the table did, I am your dessert, definitely dampened his tip. I left with the feeling the old Sands, ow the J, just put lipstick on a pig and didn’t really change anything besides a coat of paint and raised the prices. It reaked of smoke outside the restaurant and I didn’t even see any e smoking.

Excellent food, excellent service, great atmosphere, and I loved watching them cook my steaks through the giant window. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, and I figured why not try it out with some friends for my birthday. I absolutely loved the steak tartar and my osso bucco, we also shared a filet mignon flight, which was a fun way to sample each of the delicious filet options they have. I will definitely be back, and I am already telling my friends how awesome this place is! Big thanks to our server, Kristine, for being so attentive and sweet throughout our meal. I could not be more impressed with how everyone composed themselves in this restaurant. Thank you J Paul's!

Our server, Jason, was fantastic. Excellent service, he really took care of us for the evening. We enjoyed the ambience so much more than other restaurants in the area. And the food was outstanding. Definitely recommend!

Love this new Italian steakhouse! Great cocktails, try the Negroni. We had filet mignon, him beef, me bison, both deliscious. Cute chocolate "cigar" dessert. Fun fun! Nice intimate space. I think they should have table cloths, but that's just me.

A very nice restaurant, it’s also nice that they redid the rest of the casino feels very clean. We were a seated in a nice booth at our reservation time, received great service and the food was very good just a tad expensive.

Forgot one of our Fillets, waitress was clearly intoxicated, she spilled water on the table when pouring, placed three sets of silverware on one side of our table for four!!!!! Sides were absurdly small. Total disappointment don’t waste your time here, they can’t find the help necessary to justify the prices.

Our second time at J Paul’s. The food was outstanding, as before, and the service was outstanding, as before. The only disappointment for us was that this restaurant has been “discovered”. With our first visit, shortly after opening, we were one of two occupied tables. This time the place was full - with good reason.

First time at the J Resort and at the restaurant and both were excellent. We enjoyed a very nice couples dinner each ordered a seafood entrée and we’re not disappointed. The food was delicious. The service was very good and we will definitely be back.

We went for our 13 th year anniversary and The food was delicious. The staff was extremely nice and on it. Water was always filled. The bartender nailed it with our Mixed drinks. The high price is worth it all.

Went to J Paul’s for a nice night out. The room was really nice and the waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed a nice Malbec wine and ordered from the menu. Crab Cakes which were very good a Beet Salad which was weak very little dressing minimal cheese and very plain for Entrees we ordered the Gnocchi which was very good and the Veal Shank with a coffee rub the veal was cooked well but the sauce was nasty, tasted like greasy espresso, So I can’t recommend this dish. Side dishes Asparagus, Lobster Mac n Cheese both pretty good. This meal cost over three hundred dollars so my expectations were that I would be happy sorry to say that was not the case.

For a “high end” high priced steakhouse it definitely did not meet our expectations. No tablecloths, no ambiance and excessively high prices. $30.00 for a glass of Frank Family Cabernet , which sells for about $45.00 per bottle is ridiculous. Caesar Salad for $16.00 with a bottled dressing poured over, not impressive. We definitely will not go back and do not recommend it for others.

I took my fiance here to enjoy a quiet evening because our lives have been hectic, since we are getting married in 2 weeks. It was absolutely amazing! Food was hot, it didn't take a long time to come out. The atmosphere was beautiful, and the staff was amazing! Thank you J's Steakhouse for your amazing meal. We will be back.

my bone in ribeyes with foie gras on top was excellent !!!!!!! All of the side dishes were great ! It isn't cheap, but it was well worth the price. $$$$$

The food is very high quality. Everything is ala carte. Portions are generous. You will probably have enough for lunch the next day. Service is superb. Ambiance is elegant as well. Everyone is very friendly. A little pricey but well worth it for special occasions or for a treat. The bar area is also quite nice for a before dinner drink

A very nice Italian Steakhouse which had a very nice ambience and many varities of food to choose from. The service was fantastic and I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Very expensive, shouldn’t have to spend $12-$20 on baked potatoes or asparagus when you are spending $100 on a steak or $120 on lobster. The wait between the time you get your appetizers and your entree was ridiculous long. Inexperienced wait staff was a let down. Was not impressed.

Our first experience will brin us back. Food was excellent and the server. Jason, could not have done a better job. Earned his 5 stars. We were a [arty of 4 and agreed we would be back.

First time in J Paul's Italian Steak House in the J Resort. First impression: not very busy, on a Saturday night. Waiter (I forget his name) was excellent. Menu extensive, lots of choices. We started out with drinks. My wife had a Bellini, which she says was bitter, I thought it was just OK, not great. I had a Crown Royal. Soups were both excellent - the lobster bisque, and the pasta e fagiole. Both came in a nice tureen type bowl. I took some home. We both ordered the veal parm. The veal was very good, but we've had some a little better. The veal portions were enormous, but meals should include SOME kind of side, in the case of veal, some pasta would have been welcome, or broccolini, spinach, etc. There WAS a tomato as a garnish rather than a side. This is NOT an inexpensive place! While the veal portion was huge, it wasn't worth the price. The restaurant must have been expecting a huge crowd, but it was fairly empty, maybe 5-6 tables were occupied. There was enough staff to handle any crowd that came through the door. Weather was good. The decor in the restaurant was DARK. Too dark for us. Between the slim crowd and the dark lighting, it felt as if we were intruding on the place. Might be a while til we return.

There's no transformation, this is still the Sands. Everything at dinner needs a big change. The server was too chatty, interrupting our conversation to let us know her life story. $60 lamb chops that were all fat. Didn't have first two choices of wine... And the suggested wine didn't go with the meal. Wobbly table. So many things. Won't be back and will definitely warn others not to go.

Service from the entire wait staff, particularly the bartender, Shane, and our waitress, Megan, was outstanding. You need a written Wine list. The gas feed to your kitchen went out, necessitating our meal being cooked at Hannas. I could not evaluate the quality of my steak because of the preparation location. My wife was pleased with her Seabass meal.

The service was excellent. Bartender mixed very tasteful cocktails. Very nice selection of beers and wines. Steaks, and italian selections were delicious. Salads were very fresh.
