Jack Astor's - Ottawa (Hunt Club)

This location's takeout service is great but our recent dine-in experience was not up to par. It took a while to be seated (despite having an Open Table reso) and they didn't let Open Table know we showed up so they thought we did not honour our reso.
Once we were finally seated most of the food was great (bruschetta, chicken fingers, chicken wrap) except for the chicken pad Thai. The chicken was dry and tough and the noodles were all stuck together as if it had been reheated. They also still have a nice selection of craft draft beer on tap. We were just glad to be able to dine out for a change before we go back into lockdown. Hopefully, our next visit is better.

I had the coconut bowl and was extremely disappointed. Everything in it was soggy. Asked for crispy chicken that too was just chicken. If all just seemed stewed and blah!!! Not impressed and had been looking forward to Jack Astor’s for a while. Just a bad evening I’m guessing

My 3 friends and I had a really nice Sunday lunch together at Jack Astor’s patio, for the first time since before COVID! The hostesses were absolutely lovely, and the precautions taken made us feel very safe. The food was prompt and delicious, and oh my, their cheesy garlic pan bread is to DIE for. Overall an awesome experience and would go back again soon!

I ordered the 7oz steak with veggies. The steak was good but there were barely any veggies! Maybe 5 green beans and 2 slivers of red pepper....lots of oil/butter(?) on them though which I don’t like. So value for money was a thumbs down for me.

Overall very accommodating and was nice to see some beer specials. Only thing was it would have been nice if mgmt visited tables. I know there has been a change at this location as I was use to the friendliness and introduction. This time not so much. We were a group of 7. But overall a great visit. Service was very good no complaints.

Food was amazing, server was wonderful but the length of time to receive our food was sooooo long. I don’t blame the server as she was very good at checking back in with us and with the kitchen. We were there for 2 hours because it took an hour before even our own bread came out to the table. Once again, not Karsen’s fault at all, she was completely on the ball.

The Kanata location is amazing, however the hunt club location was a disappointment. It was not busy AT ALL. Yet the waitress forgot to bring us cutlery and we had to ask another server for it, they were out of garlic bread, she messed up my bill and we had to wait 20 minutes for her to fix it. She was very slow in attending to us, and was not apologetic at all about any thing that was not correct.

We had to ask to have the music turned down. We didn't see anyone dancing so why so loud? Medium rare steaks were overdone and very thin. Server spilled beer when he brought it and didn't bother to clean up. Would have been okay at 1/2 the price.

Chicken fingers were great! But my sweet potato fries were cold. Service was quite slow initially but the waitress was lovely and got the orders right no problem.

Service was excellent - reservation honored at appropriate time, server was attentive without being overbearing, food order was correct and served hot. Food was great in terms of both quantity and quality. Only beef would be overall noise level that made it hard at times to conduct a normal conversation.

Fish and chips was awful. The batter was over cooked and the fish seemed raw.

It was really enjoyable and our waiter was really pleasant. The food was good too.

Steak was tough & dry & served rare when ordered blue without sauce. Veggies OK but no herbs or butter. Small piece of salmon with dry multigrain rice. Chicken quesadillas were moist & tasty but sloppy eating. NY Striploin was fine. Waitress was great.

Yes would definitely recommend , have been there 2 mothers days in a row and have had no complaints...my mother loves the wings ..Thank-God ...lol!!!

I made the reservation via Open table and I was able to just walk into the restaurant. We were served quickly. I shared a order of chicken and steak Fajitas along with an order of fresh garlic bread and chicken wings. I really like the lightly breaded chicken wings here. I wish they had a wing night special. The bread could have been cooked a little bit longer as the outside was a bit mushy. I enjoyed the fajitas only wished they had fresh fajitas wraps. They only give you 8 for 2 people.

Overall our dinner was good. I find the prices a bit high for the salads (nearly the same price as a steak dinner). Which may prompt you to make some unhealthy choices. Our server was okay, she was on the verge of being rude a couple times. But seemed to just be her personality, she was also very prompt. I would go back but it wouldn't be my first choice of restaurants to go to.

Our youngest daughter had the tomato pasta but the sauce was so spicy she couldn't even eat it.

I made my reservation through Open Table. For 6 people including a high chair. We were initially told we would have to sit in the bar area, even though it meant that the high chair dweller would be lower than the table. After objecting, a table was found for us in the main dining area. Reception at the restaurant suggested I should have also called jack astors to confirm the reservation ... because they should have shut down open table, and didn’t......or something??? Why have online reservations if you still have to call restaurant.
It seemed like since our last visit, additional tables were added to the main dining area. It was so cramped, that we twice had to get up to let people at the table beside us in and out of their spots. My chair was repeatedly being bumped by the service staff as they rushed past. Having said that, the servers, ours in particular, were all doing their very best to make the experience enjoyable. I have no complaint about the staff at all. I do not know how they are doing their jobs in such cramped and noisy an environment. I appreciate it is a family restaurant, indeed we had two children with us, but since everyone was so crowded in, the noise level seemed to have increased considerably. This is a place we often have visited with our kids and grandkids - at least once a month for years. Not sure if we will return.

Service was amazing along with great food ! I would recommend Jack Astor’s to anyone that wants quality and above all it’s a great place to have a gathering of friends!

It was awesome and tasty. I was a wee bit hungry after (had the 7oz steak with mashed). I would have wanted a bit more potatoes for the price. Bread on the table would also be great

Had a great evening, the food was amazing and the staff was super nice. Every time we go we always have a great time.

Service was good and relatively quick considering how busy it was. Long Board Nachos not nearly as good as they usually are.

Ordered medium rare steak. Thin and overcooked.
Adagio chicken was very good.

Good neighborhood restaurant for groups or date night.

As stated in my other reviews JA tends to be a local favorite in any town they are in; food is consistent as is customer service, some better than others, but overall cant go wrong if you need a spot in a pinch or if you need a place to go on a friday night after the movies...
