Jeanne D'Arc - Cornell Hotel De France
I will definitely be back. Chef Tito’s food was amazing. I was pleasantly surprised.
The four of us enjoyed it enough we put it on our list of restaurants to go back to.
Interesting and funky spot. It is a throw back to the '40s and '50s, In mid January Christmas decorations were still up. The food is good and the price points are low. It is a fun place to take people.
Jeanne D'Arc has become our favorite restaurant in San Francisco. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, the staff is friendly and professional, the food is outstanding, and the prices are very reasonable (especially for SF!). The prix fixe menu varies from visit to visit so there is always something to appeal to any palate. I had the lamb loin and my husband had the sea bass, and we both enjoyed our meals. The wine list is very good and the prices are good. We try to take visitors here whenever we can - it's almost like being in France.
Brings us back to France without spending a fortune. A great bargain, excellent choices, in a quiet atmosphere. May not appeal to the younger crowd that wants a loud boisterous atmosphere. Excellent selection of French wines that don't wipe out the wallet.
Took my wife for her 50th birthday. She had lived in France and had been to this restaurant a long time ago. Was the prefect surprise for her. The food was great, atmosphere awesome and service wonderful. A little eclectic venue but great down to earth French food and good value.
Never disappointed in the quality of this restaurant and the quality of the food. Had potato leek soup to start that was divine. Followed by a salad with Little Gem Lettuce, avocado, mango parmesan cheese and a deviled egg. My choice of entree was the Chilean SeaBass, served with baby carrots, beans, and duxelles, also divine. My friend had the duck breast which she loved. We both finished with the Grand Marnier Souffle, also wonderful and we were stuffed! Service was great and we were not rushed. Love the ambience, I feel like I am in France when there. It is a high end restaurant with prices to match, but worth every penny!
If you love real french food down with great care this is the place. Will come back often.
An outstanding dining experience. The food was wonderful and the ambiance transporting. A hidden gem. A must to visit.
Excellent New Year Eve dinner with nice ambiance. Very good value.
We enjoyed our evening at Jeanne D'Arc very much! All wait staff were pleasant and professional, the food was delicious and the live entertainment was extremely enjoyable. Jeanne D'Arc was decorated beautifully!
Thank you, we look forward to returning.
Hospitable staff. Exceptional food. They made the evening quite memorable. I look forward to returning again.
This classic French restaurant was just so extraordinary and our service was fantastic. This is about tradition and reminds me of many traditional haunts in Paris.
I arrived on time for my 8 pm reservation. Though the restaurant was not overly busy I was forced to wait for ten minutes before I was greeted by anyone and then it was a waiter who went to get the proprietress. Another five minutes passed before she arrived. The dinner was a 4 course prix fixe which was fine. There were enough selections except for the soup starter. It was potato leek soup which tasted like celery soup. No hint of potato or leek. The escargots were fine -- prepared in the traditional garlic butter, My main course was filet mignon with a forestier (mushroom) sauce. The menu had given two filets; one was called a faux filet and the other a filet mignon. What I was served must have been then faux filet but on asking the waiter it seemed that both entrees were faux. It tasted and had the texture of chuck roast. The dessert was souffle and tasted good though it was a little wet in texture. All in all a rather disappointing meal.
Authentic French cooking, felt like a tourist in France.
Our table for two was delightful. Our server was a charming older gentleman with tons of enthusiasm. The service was a bit too rushed. My soup was very tasty, but served luke warm. The rack of lamb was delicious, served with asparagus rather than a seasonal vegetable. The highlight was Grand Marnier souffle for dessert! Wine prices were very reasonable. Overall a very nice dinner especially if you are staying at the delightful Cornell Hotel De France.
The service was good, but the food left much to be desired
A charming little bit of Paris in SF.
Our server was very pleasant and helpful, even though he seemed a bit over extended at times.
The dinners are pre fixe with a good variety of choices.
We stared with a vegetable soup that had a good body but lacked flavor.
The escargot was a good choice!
My spouse had the highly recommended short ribs and enjoyed them. They were good, but not great.
I had the lamb shank which was excellent.
We both finished with the Grand Mariner Soufflé, which was also worth the indulgence!
The wine list is quite reasonable if you search.
Overall, Jean D’Arc is worth the effort to get a reservation...particularly if you enjoy exercising your inner Francophile for a delightful evening.
A wonderful experience with such a special relaxing dinner! Server made us feel welcome and helped us in deciding what to order. Reasonable price for all we had from the Price Fix menu. Soup, appetizers, main course, and a special desert (Souffle).
We had an outstanding 4-course meal, and spent the night in the hotel.
I have been coming to Jeanne d'Arc off and on since the early 1990's. I also spend a lot of time in France. This is the kind of food that is becoming harder and harder to find, even in France. Solid traditional French fare prepared by a master chef at prices that, while higher than they used to be, are still reasonable by San Francisco standards. The wine list is excellent and I haven't seen such a low markup on wine in another restaurant, period. The atmosphere is beautiful. The service is spot on with servers who have been around for a long time. Normally, the sound level is such that you can actually have a conversation. This particular night, the restaurant was full and there was a large party nearby, so the it was much noisier and more like the Bastille Day celebration. It's close to Christmas, so that may be why. The Grand Marnier soufflé is still a stand-out, in my opinion. I have never had a bad meal here. Bravo!
Adorable, cozy, kitchy spot with great food. Totally worth it for a night out.
Quaint and lovely! A hidden gem! The food is wonderful and priced well. The wines are very nice and also amazingly reasonably priced for SF! Wonderful people here. Definitely worth visiting
Great food and service!
Charming quaint dining in the lower floor of a historic SF hotel near Union Square. Prix fix menu had many delicious choices, such as escargot or caprese salad, then rack of lamb or steak au pouive and wonderful soufflés for dessert. Moderately priced wine list and friendly attentive service made for a special SF dinner.
I can’t remember when I so enjoyed such a peaceful and delicious dining experience. Jeanne d’Arc is a charming oasis. Forgetting you’re in San Francisco, you could easily be in France hearing beautiful the French language being spoken. The soufflé is to die for. I can’t wait to go back!!!!
My wife and I spent a few days in San Francisco and had dinner at Jeanne D’Arc. This is a very nice place to go to for a real nice price fixed dinner. The food was excellent and the ambiance was very festive. We’ll be back next month.
Wonderful atmosphere and great fixed price menu. Will be back
Great experience again
Fun and eccentric ~ food was great for price and value as well! Love the declarations and the experience overall
My husband and I were put off by the waiter. He was condescending, burnt out, brusque. Like the rumors I have heard of French restaurants in France, but never would I think to see the likes of it in the Bay Area. It is obvious that he does not need to make a lasting good impression as the guests are mostly tourists on one time visits.
The food is indeed 'Country French'. Best part is the souffle. Wish they served that by itself.
I would eat at a classier place with 2 courses instead in future. I am a Bay Area local.
First time at the restaurant and we will definitely be back. The dishes were tremendously good... the atmosphere transports you to France... and pricing was reasonable. Feels like a tweeter between someone’s house dining room and a restaurant, similar to some of the North Beach Italian Restaurants where the owner and chefs are milling around fussing over the details. Glad I found you.
The whole experience at Jeanne D'Arc is almost other worldly. From the moment you enter the lobby of the Cornell Hotel d/France, it's as if you have stepped off a San Francisco sidewalk and into Paris. The space is intimate and inviting. When you descend the staircase into the restaurant you enter a medieval-styled dining room which feels as natural and authentic as the real thing. Tapestries and artifacts adorn the walls and the entire ambience drips with Gallic charm. The wait staff are gracious and attentive without ever being intrusive or annoying. Then there's the food. I consider it not just the best French restaurant in San Francisco. I consider it one of the best restaurants in San Francisco, period. The value of the prix fixe menu speaks for itself, but the quality of that menu rivals the best anywhere. This was my second visit and a chance to introduce my daughter, who was visiting from SoCal, to this beautiful place. I intend to return often and work my way through the rest of the menu.
Menu was wonderful. My wife had the Lamb shank and I had the short ribs. Both were amazing. Next time going to try fish dishes. The soufflés are unbelievable
What a surprising little gem! The changing 4 course menu made it very easy. There were many choices, so it did not feel restrictive at all. The wine list was good. The service was excellent and very European traditional, which was such a comfort to me. We both had potato leek soup and Escargot to start. My daughter had Steak au poive and I had filet with mushrooms. Both Medium. My filet was perfectly done and a top 3 lifetime steak experience. My daughter enjoyed her steak but did say she liked mine better. (They were different cuts) We finished with a berry tartlette and opera cake. We were in on a Friday at 5:45 pm. Our time there was about 1 hour and 30min. Pacing was perfect. There was a strolling violinist. We will be back!!
This restaurant is consistently good and has been for many years. The Gran Marnier Souffle is not to be missed. There isn't a better one made on the planet. The Asian waiter has been there 35 years and he is always cheerful and full of energy and it is such a pleasure to be served by him. He is perpetually 25 years old!
The entire dining experience was amazing! It was elegant but still warm and inviting. The food was delicious and presentation was beautiful. The waiter was personable and very friendly. We had a wonderful time!
Service a bit slower than usual but overall a very pleasant evening.
This was a third time visiting from Hawaii. Same waiter, Same Smile. Phone conversation was very helpful!
Hidden gem and a favorite place for a special evening
