John Street Cafe
Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Very relaxing place.
Disappointed with the menu.very limited and uninspiring. The position of the cafe is great but I will not be returning in a hurry and would only recommend it for a coffee or breakfast rather than lunch.
I have visited this cafe many times over many years, however the food was not up to expectations. I ordered Smash 'n Hash. The Bearnaise sauce over the poached eggs was floury, the bacon was way overcooked as was the smash which was burned on the outside. I would not hurry back.
I had a lovely time. p.s you have misspelt "ambiance".
It is spelt ambience.
Sat outside on a beautiful day and enjoyed a delicious brunch with excellent service
peacefull aussie embiance with medium quality food not good menu list and no wines. It still remains for me one of the best cosy meeting places and coffee is almost excellent
Friendly and wonderful service. Had a great breakfast with friends. Good value overall. pretty standard menu with a few specials but what we ordered all looked and tasted good.
Lovely service & delicious food in a beautiful setting. Next time we won’t leave if so long to come back.
1) Loved how quiet it was and the trees surrounding the outside tables are quite pretty.
2) Really pleased it is a cafe that serves breakfast menu till mid afternoon!
Areas for improvement:
1) Food - I ate from the breakfast menu and my dining partner ate from the lunch menu. I ordered the bruschetta. No avocado available so I substituted for haloumi, which was decent. Unfortunately the bruschetta wasn't as tasty as expected and I think what it was missing was a lack of dressing. Even a decent drizzle of balsamic would have been 5x better. The one lone mushroom on top tasted overcooked & rubbery.
My dining partner ordered the quinoa patty from the 'lunch' menu and when it came out I was really disappointed with the size especially given the price and I asked her if it was going to be enough food for her. It should be listed under 'light bites' or the server should make a suggestion when the quinoa patty is being ordered that if you're hungry to add a side.
2) This is a little nit-picky but all these little things added up... I ordered a tea and later on asked for some honey to go with it. The honey came out in a little packet of mass produced honey and I thought to myself surely being a cafe they could have at least put the honey in a little dish, or go the one step further and use good quality Western Australian honey.
3) Service - our initial server (young european guy) was very sweet but appeared to be in such a rush when taking our orders. which I commented to my dining partner after he had taken our food orders. Turned out he was definitely in a rush because I had ordered an egg to add to my bruschetta but that order wasn't put through. We saw him leave not too long after we ordered so it became clear why he was in a rush.
I came to John Street Cafe based on the really positive reviews online, but I was disappointed and felt quite let down by our experience. Would I give them another go? Hmm.. probably not unfortunately.
Service was a bit slow and the two egg breakfast was a bit bland - they were busy so maybe that explains service.
Arrived at John Street on a cool day for lunch. We enjoyed our lunch, the food was excellent and good value. The service was slow and not particularly customer service focussed. Perhaps short of staff on this day. Will go back for a lunch.
Great ambiance and delicious food & service Always consistent and I love the Italian waiters.
Worst “steak sandwich” I’ve ever had. The chips were cold, the Turkish bread was small and brittle. The steak was a cheap cut which was so small that it didn’t even go the whole length of the Turkish bread. In fact, it barely went half way. There was enough rocket leaves to count on one hand and probably two slices of sundried tomato. Dismal. Will
Not be returning any time soon.
Nice location, good atmosphere and a great place for breakfast on a fine day.
As always, great food , good price and vibrant Cottesloe atmosphere
Good food, great atmosphere. Still get the great Cottesloe vibe without having to fight the traffic on marine parade. I booked a table for 12 for breakfast and we got the function room inside which was awesome! Ill be back :)
Great friendly service and enjoyable brekkies - it’s hard not to stay for lunch!
We have been to John Street Cafe plenty of times and not once let down so very good consistency
It's good enough to visit at least four or five times a year from Kalamunda ... approximately 100km for a delicious breakfast. Great food and service. Why not?
John St Cafe has a nice feel to it, in a pleasant setting.
Casual in a comfortable way with simple but interesting fare, not an overwhelmingly- sized menu.
Would recommend to friends.
Still one of my favourite places for Breakfast, Brunch or Lunch. Have had MANY eating occasions here and can barely fault any of those experiences. Have been visiting this place since it started. Prior to that when it was a deli my grandparents lived across the road and I walked with my grandfather to get the morning paper and milk. It holds very special memories for me. My father who passed away last year, loved this place too and we had many happy breakfasts and lunches. My nieces 18th family lunch was held in a private room there about 6 years ago and it was great and food was amazing. Food is always very fresh, innovative without being too trendy, tasty, perfect sized menu and well cooked. Service is always friendly and vibrant no matter how busy. The inside cake counter has wonderful things to take home. Ambience is buzzing without been too loud. Love that its dog friendly too.
John St has great options for general and private dining - and doesn’t charge a fee for room hire. Gorgeous library with long dining table seats 12. And it’s BYO - perfect!
I hadn’t been in a few years and was pleased to see it’s undergone a makeover from its humble old-house beginnings, now with indoor toilets rather than the previous trek down the side path and out the back.
Very clean and neat!
Two good meals but schnitzel and chips were dry - and just plonked on the plate - not appetising
Welcoming. Pleasant surroundings in café atmosphere. Prompt service. Creative variation of firm favourites. Permits separate billing. All in all a consistent favourite.
I found the menu very varied. It gave gluten free and vegetarian options too.
The service was attentive but not intrusive.
I like that there a smaller rooms if you wanted quieter dining or you could have a family/friend group all together.
Been going there for 20years and it’s still great !!!
Had a group meet for breakfast. The meals and coffee came quickly and the service was very friendly. Yummy food with separate billing.
We were given the LIbrary Room for a family birthday, and it was lovely to have the private space in which we could talk and celebrate. The service was outstanding and the food, as always, delicious.
