Had friends over and decided to bring them to Johnnie Fox's for dinner and it was a great experience. Thank you very much to everyone that made it happen
Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience at Johnnie Fox's with us. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your evening at the Pub.
Our Waitress made our night, she was entertaining and helpful. Music guy was good. However the food was so so... expensive for what we got. But overall a great night out.
Very good staff, the food was delicious and a very good quality.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us! We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
Loved the ambiance! The food however was simply not good. I ordered pork belly for a starter and it was served with what I can only decide as 'Deli coleslaw'. Also an odd combination to begin with. As I dont eat fish my choice of starters was limited.
The main was mildly better in the lamb shank. It was rather tender but the veg served with it tasted pre frozen and the gravy tasted like it was out of a box.
The ambiance and decor saved it really but I'm afraid I wont be returning. For what looked like a super menu did not translate to the plate unfortunately.
Many thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We are so sorry to hear, this is not the experience we hope to give our guests during their time at the pub. With your help, I would like to investigate this further. If you could kindly email us some extra information I would like to investigate what happened on the day. I look forward to hearing from you.
Myself and my partner had a booking for dinner. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. We stayed after dinner and enjoyed a few drinks while listening to the live music from Ray Cox. Will 100% return and recommend to family and friends. THANKS!
I found Johnnie Fox's when searching on Open Table for a restaurant near our hotel. The reviews were fabulous and the menu looked perfect. So I booked us a table. Upon checking in to the Powerscourt Hotel, we told the Front Desk agent our plans and she immediately said it was one of her favorite places to dine. That reassured me of my decision. Then two separate taxi drivers also said that it was the must for authentic Irish dining. Which made me feel even better about this selection. As a side note, they offer dinner & show packages. But we chose to just dine in the restaurant. You'll need to go to their website to book the show.
The restaurant is situated all by itself in this very small town overlooking Dublin. It's very rustic and decorated in an eclectic style with signs covering the walls and odd items hanging from the ceiling.
The menu offers something for everyone. From meat lovers to Vegans to gluten free. Everyone will be happy to dine here.
For starters we ordered the Ricotta and Beetroot. It was so light and creamy. I didn't want it to end. My husband ordered the rib platter for his meal while I chose to try the seafood chowder and mussels as my meal. My husband loved the ribs and the tangy whiskey BBQ sauce. I thought the chowder was pretty good. A little too smokey for me...but that's just my preference. But the fish was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The mussels were hands down the best mussels I have ever eaten! They didn't taste fishy at all. Which is almost impossible to do when it comes to mussels! The sauce was heavenly. I kept dunking the soda bread in it because it was so delicious. For dessert my husband was thrilled to see a gluten free brownie with ice cream on the menu. I was full but really wanted to try the Banoffi Cream Pie. It was so good but I couldn't finish it after over indulging in dinner.
We left very happy and very full! I highly recommend Johnnie Fox's. But you must come hungry!!!
Our go to pub for lunch when we have visitors from abroad! Live music on a Saturday afternoon can't be beaten and the food is to die for! Can't wait to return!
