Slow service - over priced food with small portions that were bland or dry. Sunday roast - hardly any meat on the plate and experience when compared to other pubs etc . Very over priced . Therefor poor value for money .

Very disappointing visit....although an absolutely lovely waterside pub the poor service and extremely long wait times to both have an order taken and then almost an hours wait for 2 Very simple meals to arrive!....unacceptable especially as after trying to find out what was happening I was told that the kitchen was "just disuing ours up"...only thr wait another 10 minutes and witness 3 other orders of food leave the kitchen and go elsewhere. The food also simply wasn't worth the wait either...its wasn't bad but wasn't good either....such as shame as its my local and in such a lovely location....we won't be returning anytime soon for a meal...maybe a drink tho the bar service was equally slow too.

Venue is great, super location and views. Beer options are good quality, the staff are courteous but incredibly slow, it looked a quiet day but there was always a queue at the bar, no urgency to serve customers. Food was available from 18:00 but the table booking app let us book at 17:30, we were told we could order before 18:00 but they wouldn’t start cooking until 18:00. We ordered schnitzel with garlic butter and asked to swap gem lettuce for slaw (mentioned in a starter description), server said she would put the req through and gammon egg and chips with side of seasonal veg. Schnitzel came with hot red cabbage and was topped with capers and fried eggs which wasn’t what was ordered, gammon was as described and then the saddest portion of “seasonal” veg which was red cabbage (winner veg) and peas from what we could tell, which we sent back and refused to pay for. We explained the issues to the server, the chef sent a message to us that the foh did not order correctly. We were told they did not “do” a slaw, it literally says there is slaw with one of the starters, I “think” chicken skewers! We were then asked if we wanted garlic butter (to correct the schnitzel order) and were then brought garlic mayo, then eventually garlic butter but had nearly finished by then. I asked the first server for mustard, she disappeared and I asked another one who was much better, very polite. Everything was hot, schnitzel wasn’t seasoned, a shame as an appetising menu but were disappointed with an overall lack of attention to detail and urgency.

Food is amazingly good. Decent choice and prices about average for what is offered. Staff very friendly and not too pushy for your order. Will definitely be going back there again in the near future.

The place was clean and tidy. My partners food was good but my stuffing ball was very overcooked. We didn't let it spoil the experience.

We have been to the Jolly Roger many times and on this occasion I ordered an extremely tasty macaroni cheese. To go along with this, I ordered a side salad. What came was a plate consisting of half a little gem lettuce which was then cut into half again. So I had two chunks of lettuce plus some Parmesan over the top and that was it . This was not a side salad! He could at least have chopped up the lettuce !! presumably the chef simply couldn’t be bothered. It quite puts me off visiting the pub again, which is a great shame. The service was good though.

We go here fairly often when visiting my dad in Gosport. Never had a bad meal. Service always friendly, food good quality and variety. Bonus for us is how dog friendly it is and the lovely views from the windows.
