Always outstanding food and welcoming, professional service. One of our favorite restaurants and where we go for birthday celebrations.
Delightfully professional service from beginning to end. They were observant and helpful but not intrusive. So many things I like about dining out…hooks for purses, comfortable chairs, adequate spacing, fast service but never hurried, innovative food beautifully presented. I would have bern happy with ordering just the 4 appetizers and I think that will what I will do when I return. Thank you, everyone at Juanita and Maude’s.
Creative delicious food, thoughtful wine list and craft cocktails, and great service. A gem
This was my and my husband's first time at Juanita and Maude. The ambience was great. The service was fantastic. The food was delicious. We will most definitely be back!
Wonderful food with unusual spices. Great service and wonderful ambiance on the back deck. A wonderful spot.
Juanita & Maude is our go to special occasion restaurant, so thankful to be able to dine in again.
Amazing food, unusual and tasty combinations of flavors. A visual feast coupled with a server who made us feel like family.
We took friends for their first time and had a perfect table on the patio and Amanda took amazing care of us!!! She’s the best 🥰
So tasty! Such great food. Backyard patio was adorable. Highly recommend!
Juanita and Maude is the opposite of a good value- very expensive, small portions, food is nothing special. I don’t understand the hype. $7 for 4 slices of not very good bread. Their cancellation fee of charging $35/person if you cancel less than 48 hours ahead is offensive. I miss Rivoli, for a special night out. I will certainly never go to Juanita and Maude again. It is yet another example of the obscene wealth of the Bay Area.
Excellent food & service
My spouse and I love bringing new people to this wonderful restaurant. We also like ordering things we can share, the better to try more things on the menu. This time we had the vegetable tempura (light as a feather ) and the shrimp with grits. Our friends ordered the salad with tomatoes , and they said it was the best they had ever eaten. It was also enormous, so I had a bite. For our main course, we split the steak, which was cooked to perfection. My spouse and I were supposed to share the chocolate dessert, but I only got two bites. The cake was so good that my husband gobbled it down.
Wonderful! We'll be back. Oh, and the wine pours are very generous.
I consider Juanita & Maude one of my favorite restaurants, but this visit everything was just a little off. Service was less attentive than usual, food was hitting the mark it usually does. Still love the place but wasn’t the “wow!” dinner I was hoping to take my out of town guests to.
Creative, gourmet dishes. Menu choices were very diverse. Local, small restaurant ambience. Lovely experience.
I hadn't been to Juanita and Maude since before the pandemic, and had never been in the comfortable outdoor area in the back. We had a fantastic experience from the first instant, with guests being seated courteously and warmly as they arrived, to fantastic service with water, cocktails, and helpful advice with menu and wine selections. We felt no pressure to order more than we wanted. A variety of wines by the glass were listed on the menu, but I appreciated that a wine list was not pushed on us, but offered as soon as we mentioned possibly ordering a bottle for the table. The sommelier was apologetic and incredibly generous in offering alternatives when the bottle of wine we ordered was not available. I can't wait to come back and to share this gem with others. Our guests, in their early 30s, were impressed we (in our 60s) knew of a hip place to introduce them to.
This is a lovely treat for a special occasion. We loved our server, Michael. Every dish is beautifully thought out, prepared, and presented.
Fabulous as always. Extra special because it was our 20 year anniversary. So good to be back again after the long pandemic!
Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and outstanding food.
In the afternoon the setting sunlight through the big front windows is pretty bright so bring you shades!
For a real treat, ask for a table on their back, woodsy enclosed patio.
Food was okay, but the service was pretty slow and I feel like the waiter just forgot about us at times.
Also I clearly stated that this was a birthday dinner for my wife and I even called ahead of time to inquire about what they do for birthdays. They said that they would write the name of the birthday celebrant on the plate and put a candle in the dessert. I also confirmed that they had marked down that this was a birthday dinner.
When dessert came around, not only were we waiting a while to get to that point, but when it came out, no birthday anything. I would've said something at the time, but my wife didn't feel comfortable. To rub salt into the wound, we had to wait 10+ minutes for our check because our waiter was in the back preparing someone else's birthday dessert.
Long story short, I don't recommend this restaurant and I will not be returning to dine there again.
Thank you Gary for letting us know. We are deeply sorry that we missed the note on Open Table about your special occasion. We sincerely wish that you had let us know at the time so that we could have tried to rectify the situation.
Well-prepared plates, from tempura appetizer to paparadelle main.
Once again, Juanita and Maude delivers on all fronts. The food knocked it put of the park. The service is both friendly and professional, and the space is lovely - somehow both modern and warm. I love this restaurant.
Our food was a little mixed this time. We were a party of five, and we all loved our first courses (the "ahi poke nori chips" was a real winner). The person who ordered the duck said it was great, but the "Pappardelle with roasted chanterelle mushrooms" was boring - the roasted mushrooms on it were really good, but there was not much else to the dish but plain noodles, so the overall effect was truly underwhelming. The red curry could likewise have been more flavorful.
As always - the dessert (Irish Stout - chocolate cake) was outstanding - and the serving was generous. We still never learn that we can share dessert here, but it's so good we each finish our piece anyway!
The patio has heaters, and is really comfortable.
Interesting cocktails, too, including some that avoided being too sweet (which many cocktails are).
This is a very creative menu served by lovely, knowledgeable and helpful people in a simple ambiance. We intend to return even though we hardly ever go out to eat.
Nice place. Patio seating in the back is lovely. As the the food....TOO MUCH SALT on everything. The sauce on the cheeseburger was overpowering. Couldn't taste the meat.
Thanks so much for your feedback. Should you choose to dine with us again, please let us know at the time if your dish is displeasing to you and we'd happily replace it with less seasoning.
Another fantastic meal. Juanita & Maude consistently offers an outstanding experience in charming but unpretentious surroundings. Our favorite spot in the East Bay.
Desserts were amazing. The appetizers and entries we ordered were good but a little too salty for me.
Excellent food--a few more vegetables would have made it outstanding-- and outdoor dining in a sheltered patio with ample heating on a cool evening. Highly recommended!
Some very creative cooking is available here, presented by an endlessly fascinating chef. Interesting year blends of Japanese, Mexican, and other flavors. Great pastas. All of the appetizers were fantastic. Some of the main courses were less so. The signature dessert of churros tossed in sugar and five spice powder, with a caramel dipping sauce, continues to be a delight. To get the best value from this place, order carefully, mostly appetizers, get a seat in the back outdoors patio area to escape the cacophony of the indoor part of the restaurant. The menu changes constantly, which is mostly a plus, until you hit the new dish that doesn’t quite make the grade.
amazing food, ambience, people and overall wonderful experience
Our second dinner at Juanita and Maude. Possibly the best restaurant in the East Bay. Each dish prepared and presented perfectly; lovely flavor combinations. Highly recommend.
One of the best places we've been to lately. Food was delicious and service was great. My only complaint is that it was bit too loud
The food was excellent and eating inside was fine. The weather was so nice, I wished we had made reservations for the outside patio.
One negative: I cannot drink caffeinated coffee and the only decaf they had was "Americano". It was okay, but the dinner was so good it called for a good cup or two of strong (yes, strong, not watered down stuff) brewed coffee--or in my case, strong, brewed decaf.
The food was magnificent and the service friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We had the best churros we’ve ever had. We will definitely come back whenever we are in town.
Such creative and delicious food every time we are here, expert service, and the back patio is a gem!
This remains a favorite in the East Bay and right on par with the best of the best in Gourmet Gulch. Highly recommend! Outdoor patio is beautiful ambience.
Best Dinner Service I’ve attended in a while. The Deserts were to die for. Great Service :)
Menu is. Innovative and changes frequently.
Food and service impeccable. We eat on the patio all year round and we booked the patio for our 50 Th anniversary!
The desserts are amazing. We had two small cakes fir our anniversary! They were amazing!
Wonderful restaurant. Everything tasted wonderful. Very imaginative menu.
The Ahi poke nori chips and Spicy squid salad were excellent, as was our main entree, the seared ribeye cap steak. Our waiter was extremely helpful and attentive. My only critique is that the serving size was relatively small for the price. There were no leftovers. Otherwise, I would give it 5 stars!
An exquisite delicious meal we had was more like an event it was wonderful
