Lovely ambiance and service! Dishes were well thought out with great fresh seafood and flavors! The drinks were also inventive and tasty. Definitely recommend trying this omakase. However, there are not a lot of courses and they are small so you may be hungry at the end.
Kikko was fantastic. The ambiance and presentation of food and drinks is stellar. The music is excellent and the servers are very friendly. They personalize your experience and really care about your enjoyment.
The Kikko omakase is a culinary experience worth savoring. The Japanese[-themed food is creatively imagined and prepared; serve is style; and a true explosion of both bold and subtle flavors. Chef Mariya Russell is a wonder and wonderful, a real emerging star on the Chicago culinary scene.
The setting in the small, bar-seated omakase room is intimate, quiet and allows for personal interaction with Chef Russell, her sous chef and the beverage master. The service is understated, attentive and efficient. Overall well worth the investment in fine, flavor-adventure dining.
Great experience. The execution on the food was immaculate. The seating area was really cool. I would definitely recommend to anybody that is looking for unique presentation and unique flavors in their food
The space was very cold and dark. It doesn’t appear that the menu changes very often, which is unfortunate since it’s an omakase menu. I didn’t leave hungry though others have complained about that.
Chef Mariya's omakase was like an impressionist interpretation of Japanese cuisine. The analogy I can think of is Monet's Lily Pond. I cannot help being "wowed" by the added flavor and texture complexity to each of the courses.

Kikkō is simply amazing. This is an experience like no other in Chicago. Friends, family, date night, special occasion: you’ll be happy you went. Up close and personal with some of the nicest, most talented people in town.

Everything was phenomenal. The food was delicious, and the attention to detail was exceptional. Yes, it’s pricey, but the expertise to bring that kind of intimate culinary experience was well worth it. For those complaining about the price, remember that this is like a small dinner party. You would be paying a lot more if they came to your house with the dishes and level of service (and as a bonus, the ambience at Kikko is probably better, and the soundtrack DEFINITELY is). Congratulations to the Oriole crew once again. Cannot wait to return.

Very high quality everything and being able to sit and watch it all being made while talking with the chefs/artists makes the high price for a relativly small amount of food well worth it.
Interesting experience and great food, just not much of it. I admire the technical skill behind the culinary creativity and knowledge, but in my view if you leave hungry I'm not sure if that constitutes a great dining experience. Most people i know who enjoy fine dining probably would enjoy Kikko, but there is that issue of calories.
Excellent omakase with delicate and precise cooking - excellent choice of high-end ingredients (caviar, wagyu beef, fresh snapper, scallions, sea urchin...) with Remarkable and Outstanding pairing. First time for me that the pairing means actually something. Service was exquisite, easy going and delicate (server spotted who was right or left handed to know where to put the glassin the table for instance). We were only 5 clients at the counter and the setting and ambiance were great. Excellent work. Definitely will come back if I pass-by Chicago in the near future
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner experience at Kikko and I have already recommended this intimate spot to several friends. We will be back, as it is similar to private dining with an engaged, talented staff!
This is an intimate, almost speakeasy-like Omakase experience. Friendly, personable service and exquisite quality and and thought put into most every detail, without an overwhelming amount of information or other guests present. Would easily recommend it to anyone looking for an extraordinary blend of cocktails, sake and cuisine.

Great place "hidden" inside a basement with amazing food, drinks and service. The entire experience is fit for a foodie, drinkee or anyone who loves a Japanese style experience in the heart of Chicago.

This is by far the most unique omakase experience you’ll get anywhere in the U.S. (I can’t speak for outside the U.S., esp Japan). BUT, if I had to guess, this is probably just as unique as any omakase experience in Japan. The beverage menu and choices is incredible. Chef Mariya puts together the perfect bites to go with each beverage (BK’s got nothing on Chef!). And every pairing has its own personality. Patrick makes excellent cocktails and explains everything quite eloquently. Chef Emery was also very knowledgeable and explained everything in such a way that was neither pedantic nor arrogant. I love the downstairs space - so very intimate and Japanese. Julia, Kikko is magical. I can’t more highly recommend it!
The overall experience at Kikko was great. The ambiance, the service, the artistry and composition of the food, as well as the cocktail pairings. It was all thoroughly enjoyable. The only complaint was that it was over too soon!
It was a birthday celebration for my date. Everything actually was extremely beautiful tasty. But for the money I spent I still left hungry😆
Delicious, tasty food. Unfortunately, it feels like they’re solving for a profit margin and, as a guest, I didn’t feel quite as spoiled as I expected for the price (after tip, about $550 for two, with the cocktail tasting). For example - you get A5 wagyu, but three tiny slivers; in fact, the smallest portion of that particular meat I’ve ever been served. Similarly, if you want to have a cocktail, the only choice is the $65 tasting. Again, it’s good, but doesn’t feel like a great value by the time you’re done. I’m happy I went, but I walked out hungry - for more food and a more luxurious experience.
We had requested a vegetarian omokase and were not disappointed. Not only was the food amazing, but both the spirit-free and the cocktail/sake pairings worked perfectly.
Wonderful tasting course experience. Each course was superbly balanced and not too big. Loved the ambiance and gracious service. A perfect celebratory meal.
Overall, the food was fine, but super expensive and we left hungry. We went to Frontera afterwards and had to order real dinner.

An extremely special experience with top notch drinks, food, and service all done in a traditional Japanese style omakase bar seating. Our only gripe is it’s pretty dimly lit and we would have loved to see everything more clearly. Chef Mariya was warm and happy to answer any of our questions - plus a darn good chef.
