Kish Indian Kitchen & Bar
Not at all value for money. For authentic Indian food, this is not the place.
As vegetarians the food we ordered was mediocre and some items were not authentic. Being in the bay area it is a fair expectation to get authentic Indian food given the huge number of choices. Ambiance was great and truly something that is missing from Indian restaurants in the bay area. Hope they can improve their food taste, quality to complete the fine-dine experience.
We loved our experience here. Will definitely be back.
There was no heads up that Kish has a pre fix menu and that we would be charged $85 per head for extremely over priced, tasteless food. In the Pre fix menu we were offered a drink which was ok but served with non edible flowers which made no sense. We were then served a mild but tepid warm Rasam soup that was definitely made by an amateur as it lacked flavor. The small plate of the Jeenga and Chicken literally had 3 pieces. Shrimp was ok, Chicken was dry and awful. The large plates were brought out with the small plates. I ordered the Lamb shank which was cold. My husband ordered the Cod which floated in a coconut sauce. The food came with Rice, Naan, Raita and Chana daal. Everything was essentially placed on the table at the same time. We weren't given time to finish soup and here the table had no elbow room. Then the ridiculous and flamboyant main chef actually brought out our dessert. To which I complained as they were basically throwing out food on the table without seeing if we were down with round one.
I told the waiter that for the price the service and processes followed weren't aligned and I requested to speak to a manager. Mr head chef comes to our table, gives us a thorny rose, a rose wine says enjoy and heads back. We weren't even done with our first drink so now our overcrowded table had more items to hold. We intentionally booked a dinner at Kish as we wanted to support a local restaurant and a budding chef. But the disappointed and callous service and attention ruined our night.
There was loud baseball game playing on the screens in the bar and a cactus was placed as decoration on our table. Not the quiet and elegant Valentines we hoped to experience.
I am Indian and know what Indian food should taste like. The food was below par, the service was ridiculous, the denied request to talk to the manager was appalling.
An effective apology for ruining our night could have been a start but the management was too busy trying to act fancy to give a sh*t.
For a restaurant that was opened for such a short time the team at Kish has just got it right. The only negative is that we ate too much because the food was just that good! Can't wait to get back there next time we are in the Santa Clara area.
Soft launch was great ..will pick up steam as the launch progresses
