The whole experience was rushed as we got in at 9:30 pm. We asked for tab water and was served and charged mineral water. Very pricy but in fairness good quality of food.
We sat at the bar and had Chef Ken ... awesome ... ask for Ken and await experiential dining at its best!
Everything was great I couldn’t fault one thing. Food was the best ever. Can’t wait to come back
Great dinner; friendly and helpful staff.
A little slow with drinks - took 3 dishes in and a reminder to get them - but other than that it was great
Enjoyed the set menu accompanied by some high balls and fancy Chablis by the half glass.
Delightful lunch on a rainy Saturday.
Highly recommend sitting at the sushi counter. We had the banquet menu and that was nice.
Beautiful prix fixe dinner with overseas friends. Outstanding service and food as good as Tokyo!
Overall great experience. Food almost equals what we had in Tokyo 👍
Regular diner with clients and friends at Kisume...and all parties are always highly complimentary of the cuisine and the service
great food and atmosphere. we sat at the sushi bar and was great to just sit and watch the chefs
The staff went out of their way to ensure we had the best experience possible. The chef was a lot of fun and presented us with a wonderful selection of food at the sushi bar.
I'll definitely be returning again.
Sat at Sushi Counter so watching the chef's prepare was good, wine list is amazing, food was great, service was a bit lacklustre for a restaurant which can uphold itself in all other areas. Definitely worth trying.
Kisume is one of my favourites in Melbourne, but unfortunately we were there last week and had a pretty crummy experience. The wait time for our food was around 45 minutes and the waiters were bringing food out plate by plate (like entrees) with a long wait after the first dish. I was really hungry and asked our (young) waitress if the dishes could be brought out at once, and she rudely dismissed me, saying “they come out when they’re ready” and “we’ll do our best” with a sour look on her face. When leaving she gave us a pretty good filthy stare as well ~ really unimpressive for such a great restaurant.
Food quality was excellent - had the Deluxe lunch bento; the cucumber tataki was a nice surprise; edamame is divine. Sashimi and cooked fish top quality and fresh. My partner had the salmon set (forgot what they call it) and she thorough loved it with the various preparation. Service can do with a bit of improvement, although the front desk and waiter were caring and polite, the waiter might want to study up on pronunciation and memorise what actually is in the dish as I noticed a few mistakes. Although it wasn’t particularly busy, our food took almost 40 minutes to come out from when I ordered it. I recommend sitting at the counter as you can watch the chefs at work with their excellent knife skills. Will definitely go back to try their omakase experience as it looked very interesting and delicious.
Awesome, fresh, delicious. The sushi chef was friendly and informative, was a pleasure to learn about what I was eating.
Loved the food and can't wait to go back for another feed.
“I just sold 2x $175 tasting menus” - said by waitstaff to their colleague after we ordered the said order. Clearly a restaurant driven by sales and revenue over a diner experience. Very slow service.
Excellent. Cool. Tasty. Nice plates. Great atmosphere.
A splash out but totally amazing experience where attention is payed to make every ingredient the very best quality. The staff are passionate about the produce and it’s Japanese food of the highest quality!
Omakase is good value for money . Tasty , fresh, good presentation, friendly staff.
We ordered 5 dishes, 2 to start the 3 to finish. They came out 2-2-1 so we ended up eating 2 plates of flavourless tempura without the cauliflower and mushroom salad which was the best part. Not what I expected for the money that I paid
Not worth the money. Service staff were not friendly and very abrupt. Only saving grace were the sushi & sashimi dishes. Mains were very disappointing. In terms of value & the calibre of the restaurants on Flinders Lane, I would not recommend Kisume.
Exquisite food and impeccable service. No part of our dining experience could be faulted.
Sashimi is amazing but sushi rice a little bit sticky.
Receptionist is sweet and nice, and a guy waiter is nice as well. However, one of waitresses who has blonde short hair and wear glasses, her attitude is not really good and not very professional at such 2hats restaurant. Please do more training to her!
Booked dinner here for a birthday and had a really great night. It was pretty busy but overall a good atmosphere. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was fantastic. We had a mix of cooked items, sushi, sashimi and dessert, with all of it being excellent. Would recommend.
We are visiting Melbourne and Kisume” was recommended by a person who lives here. The food was creative, an excellent combination of flavors and the staff was very informative and helpful.
The saki choices are exceptional.
We would definitely go back to this restaurant.
Overpriced food and pretty ordinary flavours. The best thing was the chargrilled brocoli
My boyfriend and I went here last week for his birthday and had such a good time. Food was awesome, wine selection and the staff's knowledge of the menu was ace and our waitress was so lovely. We're both hospo professionals so we know good food and service when we see it! Have already been recommending to friends and thinking of my next visit. Also special thanks for the staff for the special birthday desert for my boyfriend- no embarrassing candles, which was perfect! Such a nice night.
This is a wonderful Melbourne dining experience for date night or a special occasion (must try lunchtime too). Smart surroundings, attentive welcoming staff, great wine list, and, most of all, very good modern Aust-Japanese food. Great dishes that would please the traditionalist but also delight the more avant-garde. Well done all, thank you very much.
I'm not a massive fan of sushi and sashimi, but my girlfriend is. Regardless, the food at Kisume is delicious. I honestly liked everything about the place. I rated the value for money 4/5, but that's just because I'm not used to spending so much on dinner. I think, realistically, what we got definitely exceeded what we paid for!
Delicious Food, great cocktails + wine. Service top notch - definitely be back
It was just OK. ambience was really ordinary and does not match the menu price point. Food was average for the price you pay. Overall didn’t think it was very worth it.
Amazing, an experience of its own.
Food was interesting, flavoursome and well presented!
Booked the sushi table as was wishing to have yakamase menu, huge delay due to traffic accident but called in advance to inform the kisume and was told it's ok. But got told that sushi table can't be held when arrived and only normal menu is available. Overall food is good but not impressive as its yakamase sushi and not in good value... Dinning services are excellent though.
Outstanding Japanese food. Ambience service and food always wonderful.
Stunning food and service throughout the evening. Though dropped the ball at the end which spoilt the experience.
If we can’t finish dessert and want nothing else to drink why wouldn’t you give us the bill, and then be on hand so we can pay and leave? We had to chase both up after waiting, waiting. Surely you would want your customer to pay and go rather than sit and watch you clean up!!
The 13 piece omakase was superb, the while experience would have been perfect but one of the waitress was surprisingly unfriendly
Fabulous food thanks so much -we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The wine list was also very impressive. Great ambience..................................................
Food is good, but not the best meal I have ever had. We chose the $120 set menu and I was expecting a fan fare. However what we got was endless sushi. Desert was to die for and I would go back there just for that. But at $409 for a dinner for 2 with 4 drinks , bit rich.
Was wonderful. Truly spectacular even for us who are both vegetarian. Only feedback is, when we arrived, we were asked if we were there to celebrate a special occasion, we said yes, we just got engaged. The lovely (front desk, host lady who seated us) lady asked if we would like some bubbles to celebrate. We said yes. Was shocked at the bill at the end when we were probably charged for the most expensive champagne on the menu ($32 per glass). Would have been nice if we were asked before hand which champagne so we were aware of the cost, came as a shock! That’s all though. Other than that, superb experience.
