Find us in the heart of Flinders Lane, a stones throw from Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, and discover three levels of dining. Our modern sushi bar and restaurant sit in the basement and ground floor, while Kuro Kisumé sits discreetly on the first level. Kuro, our most bespoke experience, encompasses The Table, two private dining rooms, an elegant Chablis bar and Winewall specially-curated by Philip Rich.
I would recommend Kisume for the most incredible overall experience. The food was amazing. The only downfall was that I had asked the waitress to suggest a fruity/sweet cocktail. As we believed she had the best knowledge we took her word for the the suggestion. When we received our cocktails they were definetley not sweet or fruity even though the waitress said they were (she was repeatedly asked).
Service was great however food was pretty ordinary. Ordered all the signature dishes that was recommended by my friend whose been a few times and I'm sad to say they were all pretty basic. Presentation was top notch but flavours were basic. Would rather eat Sushi Sushi. Nothing special.
Absolutely delicious, was a beautiful evening. Sat at the restaurant on ground floor and was perfectly arranged.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We sat on the counter and watched as each dish was intricately plated by the skilled chefs. Wonderful experience and will come back soon
Food was outstanding. Had a few issues with our drinks twice not being put through but both times were taken off the bill which was a thoughtful offer.
Fishes weren’t fresh.
Stir fry too oily.
Not worth it.
Food was just OK.. chefs didn’t look organised or as professional compared to other restaurants.
What an amazing experience - Japanese fine dinning with a modern and ever so melbourne feel to it! We loved every dish and a selection of cocktails too - fantastic night out.
Absolutely beautiful food and outstanding service. We will definitely be returning!
Regrettably, we experienced very poor service at Kisume.
Firstly, the ceiling above our table was dripping - when we politely alerted the staff there was no apology but an attitude that we were inconveniencing them (we didn't even ask to move, simply letting them know).
Secondly, the menu was not explained to us despite specifically asking how we should go about ordering for the group - the waitress instead read the menu from top to bottom as if we were incapable of doing so ourselves. The waitress then looked at us with disdain when we asked some simple questions about some ingredients on the menu.
Finally, as if a comedy of errors, the wrong food came to our table, and the waitress again offered no apology but insisted it was what we ordered (when we had been quite clear). Upon leaving we were completely ignored despite our best attempts to offer a warm conclusion.
The food was of a high quality, but the staff acted as if it were the 90s, and it were still appropriate to treat customers with an air of pretension as if they were lucky to be through the door. No warmth, authenticity or narrative behind the concept - and overall very disappointing.
A sensational birthday with outstanding food!
We both ordered beef bento!
Perfect amount of food for lunch!
Would definitely go back!!!
Came for lunch on Tuesday with my husband for the very first time. Very excited to try the set menu. The restaurant has a good design. There is almost no service at all from the door to waitress. Have to ask someone to stop to order drink and asked for drink menu to order second drink and did not come until the end. We ordered the $175pp. The food is nothing special from the Flavor to plating. Will not coming back for sure and not recommend to my friends at all.
Phenomenal food with phenomenal service. Genuinely wonderful experience as we expected.
Great meal with a very high price
Absolutely loved everything about Kisume. Edgy staff and surroundings.. Food definitely as good if not better as high quality restaurants that I’ve visited throughout Japan..
One of our waitress brought out the cos lettuce that we did NOT order, and once advised she didn’t want to take ownership of the mistake and instead was quite rude about checking the system to prove the table wrong at that time our main waitress stated to her that we didn’t order it and completely disregarded her. My husband was quite angry at this as we spend over $600 and don’t feel that the service is up to standard!
terrible service and not sure what the fuss was about. the sushi was so bad i spat it out. after sushi , agedashi tofu we decided not to waste any more $ and leave.
Very disappointed by our recent dining experience at Kisume. Having previously enjoyed a wonderful Omakase experience at the Sushi Bar, we decided to opt for the lesser high-top option, and were subsequently ushered to the basement area which has little or no ambience.
While the service couldn't be faulted, the food (Chefs tasting menu) was average at best. No better than sushi train flavours or quality. The charred cos lettuce was awful.
The worst part of the experience were the numerous drunk patrons, and state of the communal bathroom facilities which were almost unusable by 11pm. Clearly no responsible service of alcohol at Kisume.
There are better Japanese dining options in Melbourne.
Food was delicious but let down by atrocious service. At the end of our main meal we asked if we wanted any more drinks. No thank you. Next thing the bill appears. We wonder : do they serve dessert? Upon asking when the eftpos machine is shoved in our faces they do! Who would have thought. Clearly an after thought. Good thing Ezards is a couple of doors down the lane.
Classy without being pretentious; the perfect place to entertain interstate “foodie” guests. Attentive and knowledgeable staff, generous spacing between tables allows for an intimate experience even with a full house. Would highly recommend the ‘Chefs Tasting Menu’ for a group booking; choices showcased the best and left everyone sated.
Truly wonderful food, attentive service. Servers were friendly, helpful to requests and appreciative of our praise. we did the middle tasting menu which was very filling, yet we didn’t feel over stuffed-at least after a 15 minute walk to our hotel. One of the best meals, ever- and I’ve had many like this.
It took 2 hours 15 to get through the set menu. As they forgot our mains for 40 mins after the entrees were served.
The food overall was satisfying but despite there being so many staff standing bunched you the service could’ve been improved. We sat there for 30 minutes waiting for our dessert to come out as we ordered a course. They asked us if we were done and leaving, but we told them we were waiting for out dessert had to wait additional 10-15 minutes for the dessert
Great place to eat, the only thing that I can suggest that is needed for improvement is the service of drinks. I felt that it could have been a little bit quicker as my self and other patrons were found to have to ask multiple times for where our drinks were. Apart from that, couldn’t fault and it was a great experience.
The food was absolutely amazing, well worth every $$$ spent. The only problem was some of the staff seemed rather rude, not interested and not very helpful with a request or two.
Such a shame considering the food and wine were impeccable.
I was pretty disappointed in this meal. I have been looking forward to trying this restaurant for awhile. The service and atmosphere was great but it is really overpriced for what you get. We had the soft shell crab sushi roll which had no flavour at all and the batter around the crab had no crunch ans tasted stale. We also got four oysters and both of mine had shell in them. I think if you are paying 6.50 for an oyster it should be perfectly shucked. I knew that Kisume was expensive but I can’t say it was worth the price. However, the kingfish sashimi and the cauliflower and mushroom dish was delicious and a good portion size.
Nice food. Service wasn't great and it's very expensive of you dine with a group.
Beautiful place, great food, only issue we had was that the staff reminded us on 3 occasions what time we had to leave the sushi table by (over the phone before we got there (we were 10 mins late) and 2 separate occasions throughout our seating time (both over 40mins before we were due to end, seating was from 6:30-8:30). It came off as if they were rushing us to eat. Considering how much the price tag is, being reminded constantly of our end time was disappointing.
Disregarding the hair in our food and constant water dripping from the sealing onto us, our table and drinks the food was very nice, however overpriced.
I sat at the counter and had nigiri. My chef introduced himself, and then proceeded to produce piece after piece of heaven. My favourite was the sardine - absolutely exquisite. It was a wonderful meal. I lingered over each mouthful. I muted my hearing aids. I ate on my own: I didn't need to make myself heard over the raucous alcohol-induced laughter of the people up the counter from me.
Very average service... Receptionist on phone when we arrived and that always annoys me and bar staff and wait staff very slow.
We simply love the food at Kisume. It’s pricey, but well worth it for a treat
Was really good for dinner.
This restaurant is make me feel lovely always.
Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience for a special birthday occasion. We had the $88pp banquet on 27 Jan 2019 and it was definitely not worth it. The service was slow and my request for a birthday candle in the dessert was forgotten after I had written the request in my online booking and asked the host upon being seated. Our red wine was very slow to be served, and as a result was not eaten with the steak that it was ordered to accompany. The food was average and not something that I would rave about, especially seeing as it is an expensive restaurant that also charges a 15% surcharge on public holidays. Making the cost of food alone $100pp, which was definitely not a reasonable price point for the average food and service.
As someone who has worked in hospitality, I understand the idea of adding a surcharge on public holidays, I would just expect the service and overall experience to be of a higher quality than was experienced. Especially given the premium price point and facade this restaurant portrays.
Food was good - but for the price - I would expect a LOT better.
Approx $150 pp should be impressive food.
The Steak with Fois Gras was definitely a highlight.
Not worthy, disappointed. Food is average, did not worthy of the price at all. I've had so much better experience
Was a very enjoyable experience The staff were very attentive
Was good but too expensive for what we got ..
Very enjoyable experience.
I would recommend ordering cocktails from the restaurant rather than the bar. The ones in the bar, although fit a certain aesthetic the ones in the restaurant are tastier and more accessible.
Food was good, service and vibe were also very good.
A smidge expensive for comparable meals else where.
