Your establishment is beautiful. We had reservations at 7:45 tonight and was seat right away. After we were seated is where the service and food was absolutely horrible. We were not acknowledged for 20-25 min until I ask the hostess who’s our server?! We finally ordered our drink and I ordered a mule and it just taste like lemon juice. Nothing in that drink had mule taste. Just lemon, my partner order wine. I ordered a couple skewers, the karaage, and calamari. You were out of calamari. So we had the karaage, and skewers. The food came out fairly quick. Well I was served raw chicken karaage! raw chicken! I let the server know and she apologized. She let us know our dinner will be complimentary and will be taken care of. We let the server know we appreciate the gesture but we decided to leave after the long wait and being served raw chicken. We just couldn’t dine there anymore. As we were outside waiting for our Uber a hostess or an employee at the restaurant rushed outside and accused us of walking out on the bill until the server ran out and told her the situation. We have never been to your establishment and will never return. I have never been so embarrassed in my life and for this to happen during an outing for a birthday dinner is completely unacceptable. It was a unwelcoming experience and I will never refer my friends family to dine at your restaurant.

What a find! The sushi is exquisite--out of the ordinary without trying to be too cute. The ambience, too, is perfect. We had a fairly early res on a Saturday night, but it wasn't empty, and you could still carry on a conversation without having to raise your voices (an increasingly vanishing experience in Chicago restaurants). The service was, well, not to wear this word out, but, perfect: kind, charming, accommodating, yet never intrusive. Such a perfect date night place! We will be back!

This was my first visit to Kyoku, and it did disappoint. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, and the food was delicious! The service was great- had great suggestions that were spot on for food and beverages. The place was a bit empty on a Monday night, which is unfortunate. This is a neighborhood gem!! I will be back!

Great place for a quiet date. My fiance and I went on a Sunday evening and did their Dinner for 2. Gorgeous presentation, delicious food, and fantastic service. Loved the quiet and chic atmosphere. Will definitely come back again.

Server was rude and didn’t seem to want us there. We had a 9:30 reservation and she didn’t want to seat us when we arrived which was confusing. Why have 9:30 tables open if you don’t want guests ?

We arrived 2 hours before closing time. Party of 5 put in a table for 4 in a completely empty restaurant with tables for 6. Waiter was not happy we arrived. Told us kitchen could close “at any time”. We did not feel welcome at all. We got appetizers, which where only ok and left.

My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary dinner and we had a great time. The other couple was going to be 10 mins late and we were notified of that upon seating. We didn't mind the wait at all, but Kyoku had our first round of drinks on the house which was a pleasant surprise at the end when we got the bill. We've been to several omakase places and Kyoku has placed top 3 in our mind. The ambience, chef and staff were nice, drinks were delicious, and moreover the food was yummy. Everything tasted fresh and the plating was marvelous. Highly recommend Kyoku for omakase and we will definitely return!

We had such a wonderful experience! We came after peak dinner time, so our service was super quick and the fish was all fresh and delicious. Our waitress was so kind! Will definitely be back.

We so wanted to like this spot. My daughter and I love trying new sushi restaurants. This space was beautiful had a great bar. It looked like there was a cool experience being offered at the bar too. Unfortunately, many items we ordered they were out of (the vegetable gyoza which was one of 2 vegetarian appetizers for my vegetarian daughter). We felt very rushed despite it being on the early side before the prime dinner crowd. We were asked about our dessert order while still eating dinner and then when our dinner was finished the host tried to bring us our check before confirming whether we wanted dessert, which we did. The miso soup was excellent and the rest that we ordered was fine. We’re going to keep trying new places and wished this was going to stay on one of our “return” spots.

Food and service were great. I have eaten sushi all over the world, from Japan, to Hawaii, to Los Angeles to New York. I do wish there were a bit more traditional nigiri options on the menu, but what was they did have on the menu at Kyoku was very good. I was missing my favorite sushi 'finisher' of tamago nigiri. Other than that the service was attentive and pleasant.

I LOVE this place. Never too crowded and really nice chill ambience. Highly recommend their Omega roll and special nigiri selections. This place has quickly become one of my favorite sushi places!

My second visit in 3 weeks so my kids could try this exquisite omakase experience. Chef was amazing to watch and the food was incredible. The party of 6 was wowed from course to course.

For the price, I really expected a bit more food. Service was a little slow, but not intolerable. The sushi quality was good; I do think a lot more effort was put into presentation - super photogenic sashimi platters.

Today’s dinner chef cannot be the same as previous reviews of omakase experiences. Watching him cutting uneven and small slices of sushi actually made me nervous. One of us returned amberjack sushi horribly made, literally cut in half and not even 2 inches long together . Then so very not professionally sliced tuna sushi got served. Next another mediocre and half cut mackerel sushi comes along. I think the chef definitely changed tonight , July 13. Horrible experience!

Highly recommend - took my son here for his Birthday dinner and we were really impressed with the dinner for 2 for $100 (2 apps, 2 soups, 2 specialty maki rolls, and 12 pieces of chef's choice nigiri or sashimi) Plus they do happy hour specials of buy 2 rolls get one free!! We were stuffed and the presentation was beautiful!! This will be our new go to spot for sure.

We had a 9:15 reservation. (And there were reservations available until 9:45) but the kitchen closed at 9:45. At 9:30 they turned off the music and the staff started drinking and watching us eat and rushed us out. We left after 20 minutes because even though the food was great, we felt so awkward and like the staff was making everything as awkward as possible so they could close early.

The Omakase experience was absolutely amazing!! Jack is an amazing chef and showed my group of 3 wonderful time. Lily our server was also wonderful, she timely, present and had an overall great energy.

We came on a rainy day, which ended up working in our favor as there were fewer people in the restaurant. We did one of their dinner specials which was several courses; service was very fast and the presentation was pristine! Food was delicious (I recommend the Kyoku special maki roll) and all of the staff were attentive and friendly. The one minor drawback was that the music was loud — not so much as to interfere with a conversation, but noticeable and I imagine that if the restaurant were busier it would be somewhat noisy. Regardless, we had a great time and will definitely be back!

The fish at Kyoku stands out in a wide and competitive field of sushi restaurants. The amberjack, salmon, and exquisite toro were particularly exceptional. The presentation was gorgeous, with our main (a special with a combo of maki we selected and nigiri or sashimi selected by chef) came beautifully displayed in a box with liquid smoke. Other tables looked like they had fancy arrangements for their fish as well. They also have an omakase menu, which we would return to try. The room in the back has more air conditioning than the front of the restaurant or the room with the sushi bar and high tops. This is either good or bad, depending on what you’re looking for. Service was very good and attentive. Our water glasses were consistently refilled. Prices were fair for what you get. I would recommend this as a dine in experience; I’m not sure how it translates to a to go box.

While Chicago has countless sushi options, few restaurants deliver on high quality fish and perfectly season rice, without smothering the sushi in unagi sauce. Kyoku is a recent addition to Lincoln Park and offers amazing tasting sets, especially The 9. Nine pieces of the freshest varieties for the season. Ours had the dry aged toro with sturgeon caviar... that was standout! Kyoku has a few American style sushi rolls with sauce, but their core nigiri and sashimi options are the stars of their menu. Really nice service too. Don't miss it.

Absolutely without a doubt my favorite Omakasa place in Chicago. Chef Jack and his staff will take excellent care of you and make your dining experience spectacular. Great Sake and Japanese Whiskey as well as great Omakasa. Get in here while you can, Omakasa at 6 pm and 8 pm, only ten seats at each time I believe.

Service was all over the place. Didn’t bring our mains out on time. Crispy golden rice appetizer was unexpectedly served cold - meaning stale crispy rice. Server forgot my whiskey order. Overall sushi was fair - the place has great decor and is put together in preparation for excellence but delivers mediocrity.

The sushi fish and meat were fantastic! Fresh, high quality, well prepared, presented nicely and delicious. Service was very friendly, polite and courteous. Pricey but really, really good.

Service was great. Ambience was lovely. Surprised for the quality of the nigiri that you are using imitation crab. Would love to pay a higher price point for real crab meat. Seafood soup was killer.
