La Mar Cebicheria Peruana
I have always liked this place. However, this past Sunday evening the noise level was far above "energetic." It was beyond any place I have ever experienced. At our table we had to yell at each other to be heard.
Had reservations was not seated till 20 min after, service was slow, we had to ask for everything, very loud inside and too warm
We love this restaurant. Our go to for special occasions. Flavors in the food can’t be beat.
having been to their restaurant in Peru we expected an excellent meal.
not only were they out of a number of items even at a 5:30 seating but the food preparation and quality were poor. I had a specialty dish with shrimp, fish and squid --everything was over cooked, almost not edible! It was supposed to be over fresh veggies--not even close.
The service, ambiance, and presentation were exceptional. This restaurant hits the mark on creating dishes that not only taste great but look beautiful as well. Ceviche was presented in a much more colorful manner than I’ve been accustomed to at other seafood restaurants that feature ceviches on the menu. This truly is a chevicheria and seafood restaurant. If you want an excellent view of the San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge, request you be seated outdoors. Make sure you take a stroll after dinner to the nearby pedestrian pier that allows you to walk out from the Embarcadero and take in phenomenal views of down San Francisco.
The crab in the crab sandwhich was fresh, however the bread was like a soft hot dog bun - sour dough would have been better. Empanadas were the bomb.
The food was fantastic as usual, but the service was extremely disappointing.
La Mar is a very big restaurant, not a cozy place for a romantic dinner or whatsoever. Do not get fooled, it is not a place where you will eat food prepared exclusively by the chef. It is a big, busy restaurant.
The service is good, and fast; professionally kind (not warm or welcoming). The place is loud that it was sometimes difficult to understand the server.
The food is incredible. It is very tasty and with a lot of options to go through the modern Peruvian cuisine. We got a "tasting menu", which did not disappoint us at all. Unfortunately the wine pairing was less than satisfactory. The chosen wines were clearly easy-drinking, easy-to-like, simple wines. Plus, the sommelier did not show any interest but sparingly pouring the wine in the glasses....
The dessert was fabulous, too, along with the food.
In conclusion, delicious food with a standard cool service in a loud and expensive place.
We had the sample menu with wine pairings. Servers did a great job of explaining what each course was. A lot of great food and wine!
Love the season special!
Food and service was great
Amazing food and staff, great view as well. Extremely accommodating
wonderful food and service. beautiful atmosphere
love this place
Excellent food and plenty of it per dish. Great value for such quality food
Great location with beautiful views. The food is amazing and the service is first class. We were visiting from Boston snd would definitely come again the next time we visit San Francisco
Good food in the pricey side. Nice outside seating area.
La Mar can't go wrong. The food is amazing and the service is amazing. It's great for outdoor seating on a nice sunny day.
Chef Gaston Acurio, has done a wonderful job with this Peruvian restaurant,I loved the food, everything was on point, only thing that I found very wrong, was that they only had two single room bathrooms, there where lines of people waiting, but I will definitely come back when I'm in san Francisco.
Food was amazing! Great first experience there! Definitely recommend.
La Mar has always been a solid place to bring friends and/or colleagues. We were lucky this night because of the mild October weather, so we were able to sit outside and enjoy views of the Bay. The food was outstanding as well!
The food was great ,however we were shocked to find out that Somebody broke to our car and stole personal items. We parked near to your restaurant.
Overpriced menu, very small portions, poor quality plates. I wouldn’t recommend it. Not worth it
One of our favorite San Francisco spots. The food is consistently fabulous and sitting outside by the water on a beautiful evening is the ultimate.
This is one of my favorite spots in SF . A total oasis of amazing food fresh fish delicious drinks and fantastic views. I’ve never had a bad experience and everyone I bring lives it !
Beautiful waterfront dining and great seafood, but we went for brunch not knowing that the brunch menu consists of 3 items.
Delicious, innovative food with impeccable service! This was my second time eating here and I can’t wait to return!
Everything was great except bathrooms are nasty.
The restaurant has a menu with food options that you are unlikely to find in other restaurants, with excellently prepared and plated food. If you enjoy trying great food with new flavors, this is an elegant option for a memorable business meal or a celebration with friends and family. If the weather is good, I suggest trying to sit outdoors in the back.
Delicious "sashimi", dangerous cocktails. Incredibly tasty ceviche.
Love the food there. It was really loud and not very romantic
Delicious, innovative and fresh dishes. Something for everyone. Beautifully presented and staff was very attentive.
La comida es deliciosa! El servicio súper bueno!
Im a regular at La Mar and happy to see it continues to do since they open. Regrettably, the table next to our was too loud and hard for my boyfriend and I to carry a conversation.
The Ceviche Nikkei and Parrilla de Mariscos were great. The Lomo Saltado which I order often was too salty and heavy on the sauce.
Service was good.
Very expensive meal
Wonderful service and attention from staff
It was great. We were very late due to traffic (1-hour late!), but they were still able to accommodate us at the ceviche bar area, which was just fine. The servers were very enthusiastic, so it made the ambiance really enjoyable.
I had been here 5 years ago and loved the food. I was disappointed this time. The food was cold and salty. The lomo saltado was especially salty. It's a fun place with good drinks but the food was not worth the price.
Restaurant was way too loud and harried. We all felt rushed; plates were whisked away almost before we were finished. Food was decent but costly. Would not go again.
The sea food here is to die for! The lomo saltado has more of an asian taste than the classic peruvian lomo saltado I was hoping for. The place is REALLY loud but if you are looking for a quiet, more intimate space, they do have two tables off to the side that are available for special occasions. The quiet was nice in our corner but I wish it wasn't next to where folks walked back to their water taxis. The service was fast and staff were very open to explaining/educating you on what is in each dish. Overall the experience was good and we may be back for drinks and cebiche!
Really long wait for the bathroom due to the white party event, and loud club music from the party made for an unpleasant experience.
