La Mesa Modern Mexican
We arrived around 3:45pm and were greeted by 2 employees at the door. Quickly we had a server approach us for a drink order and dinner order soon after. Went to the bathroom and they looked as if they were Uncleaned from the previous night. The waitress went missing at that point. People started coming in and it seemed the employees were running around trying to accommodate everyone. The bartender was serving tables, others dressed with normal clothing were also helping out. You couldn’t tell who was who. The food came out and was not appetizing at all. The waitress was spending her time at another table. I finally asked for the check and then a man Agee cane over asking if it was somebody’s birthday and if we wanted cake. We couldn’t stay any longer so we took it hone. She didn’t apologize for the poor service. We finally saw the waitress when we were leaving and she apologized for not being able to attend to us as her bigger table needed her attention. Will not be going back.
Came here for the first time since it became known as La Mesa. Service was spot on, not overwhelming but attentive. They brought out complimentary chips and bean dip. Chips are the thick ones and on the greasy side, bean dip was pretty good.
We ordered the bacon guacamole, sounded different which it was. Nice flavor and who doesn't like bacon! :)
For dinner I ordered the Pescado tacos wrapped in lettuce. They weren't bad but didn't wow me. The Mahi Mahi was a bit on the dry side and the tacos could have benefited from more of the aioli sauce. My wife had the Barbaoca which were very good, juicy liberal amounts of beef brisket. We split our dinners, 2 tacos each. For a side we had the Elote which was good, but again could have benefited from more sauce, Mayonesa.
You won't go hungry as you get 4 tacos per order.
Will we return, no time soon as Del Barrio (in Geneva) and Puebla are better.
We were pleasantly surprised for our 1st time dinning
I was excited to read other reviews that the menu was similar to or the same as Puebla... although the menu might be the same, the food was definitely not. We ordered a few favorites and were VERY disappointed. The chicken tinga was watery and very bland. The steak in the tacos were so greasy that it was dripping everywhere and it was incredibly salty. Even the bean dip was bland. Nothing was great or worth going back to order.
WOW! Love the new menu, can’t wait to come back! The servers that work here are happy and knowledgeable! I had the jalapeño cucumber margarita and it was perfect, my husband had the smoky Jalisco old fashioned, super! We shared the chicken tings tacos and the ahi tuna tacos, both were amazing!! I have to try the barbacoa next time and some of the unique guacs. You must try the churros OMG, filled with caramel or hazelnut and a bowl of fresh whipped cream TO DIE FOR! I’ll go back just for those mmmmm
Thank you so much for the Awesome review.
I’m very upset that I was marked no shoe to this restaurant. I made a reservation for 4 at 5pm on Tuesday and we showed up. The place was empty except for a few people seated at the bar. We had great service by our server and great food but I’m not happy being accused of not showing up by your hostess on open table when we certainly did, and spent money too. Since it seems our being at the restaurant wasn’t acknowledged or appreciated, I certainly won’t be back.
Tom was awesome, super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu! Definitely a place to check out, drinks and food were amazing as well!
Excellent food, service and price!
Celebrated a birthday. It was as a shame they were working on a construction project.
Great place. Food was excellent and service was great. The waitress was fantastic.
You have to try this place.
The food was amazing and our server was excellent. She made awesome suggestions. It was our first time there, but we will be back!
Steak tacos and potato/chorizo tacos were really good. Didn’t care for the the chicken with bacon ones as much. Elotes were very good and a nice size portion. Had the raspberry smoke margarita and it was excellent. Not too sweet.
Very poor service!
Great dinner here! This is a fairly new place so our first visit. Our waitress was friendly & attentive. The food was delicious! We will be back!
Food was good - menu is similar to Puebla. Margarita was also good, nothing special. But service was slow considering we were there on a Tuesday at 12:30 pm and it wasn’t crowded at all. Staff was friendly and good.
It really seems as if some of these reviews were created out of personal spite, which is really unfortunate because those small, close-minded people will really never fully understand what a high quality Mexican restaurant really is. La Mesa wowed me in more ways than one. The food was exceptional, drinks were top notch, and service was spectacular!
Food was great. Drinks were great. Not a lot of patrons so it was quiet. Taco Tuesday was a good deal
Best chips ever!! Tacos were good, liked the el pastor , ahi tuna and shrimp! Margaritas were yummy too!
Menu is basically the same as Puebla but different cooks because the food was not as good as Puebla (seemed less quality and cheaper tasting) It appears it is the same owner as Puebla which moved 2 blocks away so does not make much sense. The drinks while again similar ingredients to Puebla had little to no tequila in them. Disappointed and will not be returning.
Chips and salsa are not brought out, you have to order off of the menu. Menu is basic but food is good.
Restaurant was a little messy, bathrooms were not kept up.
It took 30 min for us to get drinks. Get more bartenders!
Moe is an awesome waiter/host.
We were surprised that it tasted just like Puebla.
Guacamole and ceviche were Delicious! Yummy tacos
Bryan was an excellent server, making suggestions and explaining the menu. Food was outstanding.
Friendly staff and quick service. The drinks and food were excellent.
Only negative was tables and floors should have been cleaned better.
The food was delicious! Rene provided fantastic service and Tom’s margaritas are so good. We ate outside and enjoyed the concert on 1st plaza. Be sure to check out La Mesa!
Pretty place, waiter was friendly and attentive, not much to chose from on the menu yet. Salsa were good. I would recommend this place!
