My boyfriend took me for my bday to La Vie.
That was our second time going there.
Our first time service was a disaster but we decided to give it a second chance because I liked the food and the place is beautiful.
Well... second time wasn’t better except way less people to serve.
Our server was the worse I ever had which is such a shame for a beautiful place like that. He never encouraged us to try anything and, worse when I asked him to let me know more about the desserts the first thing he said in a very ill-mannered/rude way was “What do you want to know?!”. Sorry but that’s not the way you make me want to try every dessert or even one. Instead I would rather have someone to ask me what I like or have a taste for (fruits, chocolate, coffee etc.).
However, it was my bday and I was intrigued by one of the desserts offered... the most expensive one of course $21 so I ask the waiter about it.
The answer he had for me was : chocolate cake/ chocolate ice cream/ vanilla ice cream . Not a sentence and literally If I was listening to the description that he was physically mimicking it was one item on top of each other....
I still ordered it because it was my bday and I love chocolate cake and what I discovered is that it was way more than his poor and lame description. The dessert was absolutely delicious and presentation was so on point!
The dessert is actually a very delicious not too rich chocolate cake and ice cream combo hidden in a delicious cotton candy ball that got flamed in a from of me!
Stunning and delicious!
To conclude: the food is very good and this dessert in particular but service is THE WORST EVER.
Too bad for the price you pay!
We enjoyed dinner at La Vie before a show at Anthem and hope to be back soon.
The cocktails were inventive and delicious - the Celange of the Lambs and the La Vie en rose were notable favorites; the food was excellent - a wonderful French Gem salad and the best gnocchi I've ever had; the room was elegant yet comfortable and filled with light; and the view overlooking the wharf and river was spectacular.
The restaurant was busy, so the service was not as attentive as one would expect from an excellent restaurant, but adequate. The noise level was lively, but conversations were still easy.
I might try dinner, but the brunch was just okay and the service was terrible.
Hostess was a little rude but overall it was really nice and food was delicious
I heard great things about La Vie so I had to visit while I was in the DC area. La Vie is beautiful and the ambiance is very refined and elegant. The service was great, but the food wasn’t. Overall, I thought the food was underwhelming and overpriced.
I wouldn’t visit again to dine, but I heard the happy hours were really nice so I might try that next time.
We were a little early for our evening reservation and wanted to get a seat at the bar in the meantime. There were no seats to be had as this is a very energetic spot on a Friday night. We ended up waiting to be seated and were placed by the window with a view of the water. Very nice. The wine selection was extensive with some great mid-level options. Wine in most restaurants is on the pricier side though and this, of course, was no exception. The highlight of the night though was the duck confit dish. It was absolutely worth the experience. Will definitely have to go back and experience the bar.
Would not recommend La Vie for dinner in Wharf area . Lots of other better choices. Food was actually quite good. Undoing was service and value. Server was nice enough and quite good generally but he was covering way too many tables so very slow service. Took over an hour to get starters ( salad, hummus board and oysters so no excuse). With main, asked for pepper and took 15 minutes to get and after repeatedly asking other staff. Had to inquire several times about the status of our meal. Pretty space and nice views. good energy but quite loud. Dinner took 2 hours, without dessert and was expensive at $350 for four people, including 2 young teens (so non-drinking), and one moderate bottle of wine.
Horrible food and service.
But for the noise level, which made dinner conversation difficult, La Vie is a winner. Attentive service, great food, good menu, attractive setting with water views.
Beautiful views & decor with roof top bar that overlooks the waterfront.
Excellent Food and ambience. The staff was extremely friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of properly. Very nice views.
Would not hesitate to recommend La Vie to anybody.
Food was good but was very noisy at first loud music and then people with the music
Nice background music would have added to ambience the music they had on belonged at a dance venue
Service was excellent
Prices were a bit high
Our food wasn’t cooked properly but the staff was attentive and quick with a replacement. Would still recommend and look forward to coming back.
The ambiance and food were excellent, although the food is very expensive!! We enjoyed fried Brussel sprouts, salad, shrimp risotto and baked chicken. They should serve bread and have ice tea on the menu, but that’s minor. The worst problem was our waitress was clueless when it came to being efficient or mindful of time. Very slow greeting us, taking our order and bringing our check. 1.5 hours for dinner without drinks or dessert is a lot. Otherwise all was fine. Too expensive to return, however.
I was so disappointed in the food and hospitality. I had high expectations, which went miserably unmet. I arrived about 30 minutes early for my reservation with my party of 3. I politely approached the hostess, and asked if we could be seated sooner. Her arrogance was immediately off putting. She started at least two sentences with a very condescending tone, opening with “Honestly...”I was so confused as to why she was being so rude. When we were finally seated the server was slow... so slow that he didn't even offer water, at all. Someone in my party had to pour the water for ourselves, luckily we sat next to the water stand. Our server didn’t ask what we wanted until 20 minutes after we were seated. When our food finally came out, I was so underwhelmed. I had the most expensive fish dish, and it wasn’t even presented well, and it wasn’t seasoned well. I ordered a side of fries, and asked for more ketchup, waited so long for the ketchup that by the time ANOTHER SERVER brought the ketchup out, I already ate my fries. I will never go back to this establishment just full of arrogance and mediocre food.
The La Vie experience was very refreshing from the ambiance to the food and our attentive wait staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our time. Customer service when we arrived at the venue could have been better.
The space is really nice and food was wonderful! Service was really slow... waiter gave us a check before asking about coffee or dessert. Strange since everyone else around had cappuccinos and desserts for Mother’s Day. I’ll definitely go back but just hope I have a different waiter.
Service was super slow. We were seated at our reservation time but it took 20 minutes to order drinks. Once we ordered dinner the appetizers came out quickly but there was a long delay for the entrees and the waitress stated she couldn’t check on them, only a manger could.
My husband and I came by for Saturday brunch. Although the ambiance is beautiful, the food and service leave much to be desired. My husband ordered the steak and eggs and I had the short rib hash. The steak was rubbery and very poor quality. When both the server and manager asked about our meal, my husband was honest but no one offered to remake his meal or replace it with another menu item. The hash was OK.
Went here for my SO birthday. We both had the steak frites. Blandest food I have ever had in my life. No seasoning in sight! Had to ask for salt, which is No No for steak. The steak also wasn’t tinder. Ordered the broccolini as a side. Menu did not state that there were peppers covering it. Too spicy to enjoy, we didn’t eat 95% of it.
It’s very loud in the restaurant. Went due to the reviews. Will more than likely not return.
For the amount spent I went home hungry.
Everything was fantastic, from the food to the service!
La Vie is a very upscale restaurant. The experience was beyond amazing. Our waiter Miguel took very good care of us.
I would recommend La Vie to a friend primarily because of the view. The view is great and I also like the "feel" of the restaurant. That said, the service was less than attentive. Each time we needed something, I had to signal the waiter, who's response was not always timely. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give the food a 7; good but nothing special. La Vie does look like a good place for drinks but I was there for dinner and was neither impressed or underwhelmed. It was merely okay.
The overall service and atmosphere was presidential level even though I am embellishing metaphorically. It’s the epitome of describing my experience. The dishes were exquisitely plated and properly seasoned. The waiters and waitresses were properly attired. The dining area was clean and regal but not over bearing. We were able to converse without having to shout to be heard thus not drowning out others conversations. Overall my experience was superb!
Birthday Reservations.. checked in and I immediately receive no show email. Seating wasn’t previously prepared as stated on reservation. Front desk staff extremely poor. We waited 20min before a bartender decided to assist. Order drinks ingredients not available. We had to catch someone’s attention for questions and refills. I had to remind waiter of Birthday. Highly disappointed
I enjoyed the experience-staff, food and ambience truly made me feel wonderful that day
Food was cooked perfectly. Amazing ambiance. Only weird thing is, restaurant is on second floor and entrance downstairs was left locked until past opening time. There was a large group of us waiting downstairs until finally I called the restaurant to ask when they were going to come unlock the doors. It was clearly a mistake on their part and hostess was very non-nonchalant about 10+ different guests having to wait out in the rain. If the restaurant opens at 11 am and reservations are available for 11 am, maybe unlock your doors on time!
Everything was great but way too noisy!
The food is amazing! The decor is gorgeous! I enjoyed my birthday dinner at La’Vie! , however they will give your table away if you have a reservation but the amazing food, decor atmosphere makes up for the unorganized hostesses! Cheers!
Beautiful restaurant with great views. Food and service were excellent.
It is a beautiful space, with gorgeous views of the water. Unfortunately, we found it to be much too loud. The music was turned up, so all of the patrons were talking very loudly. We had to speak with raised voices to hear each other at our table. The food was a mixed bag for us. We enjoyed the appetizers, especially the Brussels sprouts. Two of our four enjoyed their entrees, and two thought they were so-so.
Very poor service. The restaurant was empty but our food took more than an hour. Food was cold. Food didn’t taste good at all. We went for Saturday lunch on May 4, 2019.
Went for brunch. Food was a little too salty, but the restaurant is beautiful and the service was good!
It was an amazing dinner- staff were super accommodating, the atmosphere was wonderful and they really took care of us!
Excellent and attentive service, with thoughtful touches for our anniversary. We shared 1/2 a riviera tower — such a treat! All of the seafood was fresh and seasoned perfectly, as were the sides we ordered. Will definitely come again.
Todo muy apurado, como que uno tiene que comer e irse. Pero la calidad es muy buena
The service was excellent and the food was good as well but the portion size was not worth the price. I will recommend the duck which pretty much melts in your mouth and try the grilled octopus Delicious!
One thing i will say is if your wanting to take pictures that only phone cameras are allowed no professional picture are allowed even though it did not state that on the website and called in advance more than once. I was told by the owner that i would have to book a date with the event planner and give them $150+ deposit fill out legal documents and give them full rights of the photos seemed a little odd when the only out reach to the restaurant was during business hours.
Beautiful view!! Outstanding Shrimp risotto .... Great for a pre theater dinner.
Brunch at La Vie was exceptional. I had just proposed to my girlfriend, so they tried to get us as close to the windows as possible. The service was outstanding, even when I dropped a glass which shattered, they were eager to help. The food itself was amazing. We had the Crab tartines, lamb meatballs, and the shakshouka. All were seasoned well and tasted fresh. Would definitely come back here for another meal. Thank you so much!
