Last Train to Delhi
One of the best new restaurants in Ottawa. Very nice atmosphere, the food was amazing! All of it was tied perfectly together by our server - I actually wrote her name down for this exact moment but can't find it. She was a dream. Very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. She made our visit perfect.
I have been in the restaurant business for over 25 years and this place has really made an impression on me.
Thanks to the team at "Last train to Delhi"
The food was amazing and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant. Loved that it was quiet and possible to have a conversation.
My wife and I were very impressed with Last Train to Delhi. The server was engaging, knowledgeable and friendly and even the chef took time to chat with us. The food took centre stage though. It was fresh and perfectly spiced. We could have made a meal by ordering several plates of the lamb chop appetizers as they were so tasty. We will be returning to Last Train to Delhi with friends.
The food was just great, very authentic Indian food, that reminds you of your home. Every thing was great upto the T.
This was my first time at Last Train to Delhi. There were five of us so we had a chance to sample a range of dishes, and everything was absolutely perfect. The dishes were enough chili hot, but not so much that the chili would overpower the other flavours. We had crispy shrimp and onion bhajis to start, both with light airy batter perfectly fried. For mains, the kofta curry was deliciously different with cashew cream, the lamb Rogan Josh was outstanding, the homemade cheese in the saag paneer was fresh and soft - the service was excellent - I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant, it is our new #1 North Indian food place in town. One of the complaints that I have regarding most north Indian food is that often it is quite heavy with oil - not here. The mango lassi is delicately sweet and tastes of mango and yoghurt, not drowned in sugar. And Oh yes, I forget the name of the spiced date cake, but do yourself a favour and save room for dessert.
The shrimp starter and the aloo tiki were delicious. The chicken korma was as it should be, but pretty mild, the rojan josh was perfect and the paneer I would skip next time. The cheese parts were good, but the sauce was really bitter. Maybe a bitter batch of greens, but I wouldn't chance it again.
Excellent food and atmosphere. We shared 2appetizers which were both breaded so we found it to be a bit heavy. Will order only one with perhaps the chicken next time. Our mains were the lamb, saffron rice , fish and chips and the chicken with nuts all were excellent. The only fault I have is when ordering a refill of wine it is brought in a plastic glass and poured into your existing glass. Just found that odd.
Most enjoyable meal in a nice ambiance. Food was interesting - not too hot/not too cool (can one request more/less heat? Somewhere to hand coats would be useful
Simply the best Indian food that we have eaten ...very friendly place to dine.
A wonderful meal - superb food with impeccable attention to detail. Highly recommended.
Best curry in Ottawa, not the usual fare with rich creamy sauces. These are beautifully spiced with freshly chopped garnish like onion and coriander. Fabulous.
Everything we ordered was fantastic. The starters are amazing especially the onion bhaji. We had roghan josh, salmon curry and eggplant bhaji which we are very flavourful and a lovely chicken dish as well.
Each dish had a distinctive flavour. The food is made with care. The service is friendly and attentive. The only thing missing is a tandori oven!
Small intimate restaurant with an open kitchen. Excellent drink menu. Excellent and friendly service. Most importantly - the best Indian food I have had outside of India! Try the black daal and salmon curry. Ridiculously good.
The hostess/waitress was lovely. Attentive, knowledgeable and kind. The food was incredible
Great restaurant. We've been 3 times in the last several months and the food is consistently great. Amazing bold flavours and a nice variety of options. Rogan Josh and Butter Chicken are not to be missed. Plenty of vegan options as well which our vegan guests appreciated.
Small restaurant - you can see the owner/chef working away in the kitchen. This is not a buffet - the food is prepared to order so be prepared to have a nice slow meal. Don't go if you are looking for a quick meal.
Lovely small place, superb service, really fresh tasty dishes not so cream and tomato focused as many Ottawa curry places are. Terrific use of garnishes, like fresh coriander, on dishes. Nice complimentary wines by the glass. And quiet enough you can talk!
This place is fantastic. The spice balance is spot on and the presentation top class. The restaurant is charming and the service warm and personable. Heavenly.
Everything was delicious. We tried many dishes and shared between 2 couples. The onion rings, shrimp, fish and chips, eggplant, lamb, cardomon chocolate chart.
Delicious food. Terrific tastes and smells.
Service was lacking, but pleasant nonetheless.
We had a lovely leisurely dinner. We will surely be back.
We had such a wonderful time! The food was amazing - flavourful, complex, and just the right amount of heat. We were so happy with the service, our food and cocktails, and overall experience. We can’t wait to be back.
The best Indian restaurant that I’ve been to in Ottawa. We had 4 of the apps on the menu plus 3 mains. All amazing as well as the cocktails! Will definitely be a family favourite.
I have been 3 time since it opened, definitely a hidden gem.
A small and intimate setting with attentive and helpful service. The food was excellent and showed both creativity and a clear commitment to wonderful flavours. Our meals were delivered hot and perfectly seasoned. The mushroom and gourd curry was very good as was the butter chicken. While we have visited many Indian restaurants in Ottawa this we think may be the best we have been to in a long time
Quaint space. Modern decor that seats about 30 people. Some nicely thought out cocktails that tap into the restaurant's Indian roots and British influences. The food was very nicely executed: fresh ingredients cooked to order. The food coming out was more reminiscent of a home kitchen than a restaurant. The chef's take is his interpretation on some standard north Indian fare, and it works very well. On the two occasions we visited, we enjoyed the aloo tikki, paneer samosas, bhindi (okra), Kali Dahl (lentils), murgh makhni (butter chicken), rice and parantha (naan).
I had a chance to visit the kitchen at the invitation of the chef: things were clean and organized. On our last visit, the chef was out among the diners to check on things. Service was friendly and helpful.
Definitely worth trying.
Wonderful food, wonderful service! We will be back!
The food and ambiance were fantastic, and Hashmita was a great server. Highly recommend! We had the aloo tiki, paneer pakora, crispy tandoori shrimp, rogan josh, kali daal - all were GREAT!
Amazing food! Recommend the butter chicken and the eggplant dishes. Everything was delicious. The wine card is short but very good!
I absolutely loved the atmosphere of this restaurant and the food was some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had! I was so impressed with the Kofta Curry, the flavour was rich and the portion was great. The chef even came out to say hi and make sure everyone was enjoying everything. I would highly recommend dining here, but make sure to make a reservation! I found there was a bit of a wait for menus and drink orders to be taken but it was quite busy and the waitress was very kind and made up for it with her great service.
Traditional Indian food can be a little indistinct, right? Lots of saucy sauces without a lot of clarity. Well, this guy is a real find. So talented, with an intelligently small menu of beautiful dishes. Great, personable service. This review sounds like a plant (hah!), but I’m serious: this place is the real thing.
The food was absolutely amazing! The waitress and chef took the time to answer every question in detail. As well as made great suggestions for what to order. Was a little bit pricy but definitely worth it for the quality of food and service. I even got a pice if cake on the house for my birthday
This place serves the real deal in tasty fresh Indian flavours
Amazing appetizers with great presentation! Tandoori shrimp, chicken kebab and onion bhaji were amazing. Main dishes were equally good. Nice small place with attentive service.
A gentle introduction to northern Indian cuisine, carefully prepared and presented. We were provided with lots of information about each dish, including spicing levels. Afterwards the chef took the time to talk to us about his menu choices and future plans. On the expensive side compared to most Indian fare, but overall a really pleasant outing. Looking forward to tasting more dishes.
Very bad service, had to wait 45 min for first appetizer and another 15 minutes for the second. Server was untrained and it showed in how she served. Food quality poor and served cold. No apologies for delays or cold food. We will never return.
Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustrations. We have only been open for a short time and our staff is trying to improve their quality of service and food preparation. We are sorry this was your experience at Last Train to Delhi.
Excellent food, excellent service. The server and chef willing took the time to explain dishes on the menu. Food was delicious and not like other Indian food. Everyone had a different favourite. One person said the dal was the best she has ever eaten and she has eaten a lot. I will go again.
Last Train to Delhi is a perfect fusion of traditional northern cuisine with gourmet sensibilities. The tastes and presentations were excellent with great attention to detail and complexity. The server was super helpful with choices and navigating the menu. My only recommendation might be to adjust the price of the vegetarian dishes. Overall an excellent experience. Definitely coming back for more!!
