Le Colonial - Chicago
Always the best
The food was fantastic filled with delectable spices. The drinks were delicious as well. The staff was attentive and we all had a wonderful evening.
I love this place. The new location is so much better - brighter and more spacious.
great service, great atmosphere, excellent cuisine!!!
Love the space, the atmosphere!! One of my favorite lunch places in Chicago!!
Repeat go-to spot for dinner and drinks. Tasteful and classy decor from French colonial Vietnam with knit chairs, white tablecloths, dark wood and tropical plants throughout the restaurant create a warm atmosphere and transport you to a different time. Tasty food, great mixology, top notch service make this place a winner for any occasion.
Excellent in every way!! Wish I were in Chicago more often to dine at Le Colonial more often! Superb!
Great place made better by new location right on Oak St.
I have never had a bad meal at Le Colonial. In fact there is nothing on the menu I wouldn't eat. Overall, I will be back numerous times.
Go for the ambiance in the main room and the decor; food was so so at best, a bit too art directed and pretentious to really let the ingredients/soul shine that is true Vietnamese. We also were celebrating a birthday and specified this in OpenTable, however the message did not get passed along and there was nothing noted on our res or during the entirety of our dinner. Once here was enough unfortunately.
Very good meal. First time for us My friends have fined there frequently
Had their special sea bass signature dish at a special price with a ginger sauce that was tasteless. Our waiter never asked how our food was. When I told him about the dish he said he would talk to the chef and never said another thing to me. The dish was really overpriced for the flavor it had. Very disappointing.
I have not been in Le Colonial in years, and I was so happy that the good, ambiance and service is as I remembered, the food was amazing and the overall experience great, highly recommended!
I made a reservation weeks in advance for a special trip my daughter and I had planned for Chicago. I was surprised when we were seated in a dark corner in the bar and not in the dining room. The only light was from a flat screen television broadcasting a sporting event. The table was minute and we could hear every word of the conversation next to us. The food was delicious but we felt rushed by the severs. We were in and out in an hour and that included dessert and a very lukewarm cup of coffee. It was not the special experience I had hoped for.
Always one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! Great, quick and yummy food with nice service. Can't wait to go back!
Flew to Chicago from San Diego to celebrate 40th anniversary of meeting my wife there. Couldnt have picked a better restaurant to celebrate the occasion. Our waiter was spot on in recommending wine and appetizers. The chicken dumplings were our favorite. The main dishes of shaking beef and a chicken curry were the best we ever enjoyed. The beef chunks were of exceptional flavor and tenderness and the yellow curry sauce had us scraping the bowl to add more to the bed of rice. The elegant back dining room with ceiling fans and an elaborate wooden bar felt like dining in a Vietnam plantation from the French Colonial era. My wife didnt even care when she pointed out to me that it was 41 not 40 years ago that we met!
Francesco our waiter was the best
Restaurant is beautiful! Food was delicious, service was outstanding!
Amazing place, environment and service, very delicate dishes and the fusion French Vietnamese was a great experience!
Tables are tight
One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago and my recent visit only solidified that! Rafeal was his usual sparkling and personable self and arranged for my very favorite table. My out-of-town guest enjoyed every dish I ordered and we savored every bite.
The new location on Oakstreet is lovely and continues to impress as the years go by. I shall return!
What happened?!?! This used to be one of my favorite places to go. I took an out of town guest and I was heartbroken to see they have crammed as many tables as possible together. There are literally inches between tables. I heard every word of the conversation next to me. It’s lost all its charm. Very sad.
The food was amazing, we ordered dumplings, chicken stir fry and organic noodles. Everything was delicious and very appetizing. Also recommend the mango margarita, a bit strong but not too much. The actual restaurant is aesthetically pleasing, it was definitely fancy. Went here for my four year anniversary without knowing anything about it and my bf and I were happy with our decision. They offer valet for $15-$16 and take card.
The food and service were exceptional. Le Colonial has always been a favorite of mine for exquisite Vietnamese food. But with their relocation, they seem to have stepped everything a notch.
Food was fantastic! I loved the energy and atmosphere. Dined late on a Friday night and the noise volume was very loud except if you were in the main dining room - which was expected at a popular spot like this. Service was phenomenal.
Only negative review was the hostesses made us wait at the bar, instead of standing near check-in, but the bar was fully occupied with people eating dinner. We felt bad hovering over people eating so instead stood awkwardly in the corner for 15 minutes.
Good experience; outstanding service!
My favorite restaurant in Chicago! Great space, , wonderful service, and the food id amazing. Gregat for lunch or dinner.
Outstanding Vietnamese food. Delicate, exotic flavors with friendly, attentive service.
Le Colonial is a great restaurant for a special occasion. Unique, creative food, an upscale environment, and professional service. Truly an special experience, not to be missed.
Fantastic. Love the new restaurant! The decor and feel is comfortable. The food as always was fantastic.
By far the best of all - delicious food, outstanding presentations, exceptional service and atmosphere to die for.
Love everything about the restaurant except the noise level!!!
DO NOT COME HERE FOR A SPECIAL EVENT. I truly wanted to love this place but our first experience was awful. Made a reservation for my birthday, even noted it was a birthday when I made it, we arrived early for our 6:45 time and were asked if we minded waiting for a better table 5-10 minutes more, which we didn't. We went to the bar, ordered a drink and ~20 minutes later the hostess came and brought us to our table. We were seated, then sat, and sat and sat. Finally a server, a gentleman with glasses -- I didn't get his name, who seem flustered and rushed literally said 'hi, do you know what you want?' -- no welcome, no walk through the menu, no, have you dined with us before. We explained we'd never been before and he briefly walked us through the menu then we never saw him again. From the start of when we arrived to when they actually took our order, it was almost a full hour. A gentleman in a suit who looked like a manager finally noticed us looking around for our non-existent server and took our order, halfway through dinner someone else came by and asked my husband if he wanted another beer which he responded he did and told the man what beer, beer never came, until later and another server came by and finally asked if he wanted another beer. What's worse I learned after we left, my husband had been in touch with the restaurant to have a dessert brought out after our meal, he'd gotten up to go to the restroom at the end of dinner, and even went to the hostess to ask WTF, and she knew nothing about it. There was never a mention of happy birthday despite me noting it on the reservation and him speaking to them in advance. He was majorly disappointed, I felt bummed out. For what you pay and the block this place is on it was a real let down. I wish we'd have gone across the street to Fig and Olive, they do service well. This was a big disappointment, won't recommend and definitely won't return. Spend your $$$ elsewhere. Service is key to a good restaurant.
First time to the new location. Very pleased the atmosphere was just as it was before. We recognized some of the original furnishings. Food was spectacular! Can’t wait to return.
While the food was good, this was my first disappointing experience ever at LeColonial. Noise level was not talkable, service was slow and in light of that, not a good value. I hope this was just a bad night at the new Oak Street $$ location.
Never disappoints! One of my favorite bowls of pho.
Food was excellent, wait staff were poor. Waited 15 min to put in a drink order after the waiter apologized for the wait he walked away for 5 more min and served another table
Love the food
