We are regulars at Luisa’s.Every pasta dish is outstanding…but our favorites are the Linguine with Clams and the Eggplant Parmigiano. Our regular server Claudio from Venezia is phenomenal! Our wish is for the Calamari to come back…but there are other Appetizers that are great! The Burrata Salad or the simple yet delicious Ceasar Salad are our go to salads. All their Pizzas are on Point. Unfortunately as much as we would want to we never make it to an Entrée. We ALWAYS take home desserts though. The Canolis and Chocolate Cake are a must…so Until our next visit…
Exceptional! Louisa was there chatted to everyone and even delivered appys!
Food was hot and delicious, made for a beautiful evening
Great gnocchi! My hubby had the clams & linguine it was superb! Fresh ingredients. Homemade Italian meal flavors! Would definitely come again.
This is an SF mainstay. Great Italian food, we recommend the mealy all appetizer, the lasagna and finish it all all with the tiramisu. Service was friendly, food come fairly quickly, so space out ordering. Enjoy!
Our second night dining at Luisa's we again opted for the Bruschetta and caesar salad. excellent again! Then we had the Margherita pizza. Crust was thin and light...and in places blackened from their oven...a nice taste. Very tasty! But we both like our Gnocchi and my Putanesca better from our previous dinner. We feel that Luisa's is an excellent restaurant and worth a visit if you're in the North Beach area!
Had bruschetta…best ever! Then an exceptional Caesar salad…! Main courses were even better: Gorgonzola gnocchi and eggplant Greek olives in a spicy red sauce! Yummm! Then ended dinners with outstanding tiramisu and a limoncello cake! Both were best we’ve had in many years! Service staff were attentive and enhanced our dinner! May go back tomorrow!
Best Italian food we’ve ever had. Especially recommend the bruschetta.
Solid but only beer/wine, no bar.
Reasonably priced and wonderful food. An enjoyable experience.
Visiting SF. QUAINT ENJOYABLE DINING. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
First the good news, the food was good. Now the bad, the service was awful. My wife and I got there at 7pm, seated promptly. Looked at menu for a few minutes and our drink order was taken, so far so good. Wine came, and we placed our appetizer order and entree order. Several people, who were there when we arrived, were finishing their meals and others arrived to take their place. My wife’s appetizer arrived (salad) in about 10 minutes and my appetizer (meatballs) arrived about 15 minutes later. Meanwhile the other diners who arrived after us had finished their appetizers and got their entrees. My wife ordered linguine with clam sauce and even though she ordered even before the couple next to us arrived, they were enjoying the same dish that had yet to arrive at our table. Finally after about 25 minutes my wife’s order arrived, mine did not. I asked the server about the issue and was told “The kitchen is very busy” well busy cooking orders other than ours apparently. He offered us complimentary wine but I told him our food would be nice instead, we refused the free wine. It took another 20 minutes to get my order (gnocchi), several couples who had arrived after we were seated were now paying their bill. I was eating my dish while my wife watched me, because she had already finished. I observed plenty plates of food being put on the counter ready to go to tables, but saw servers looking at the plates of food checking their notebooks and then walking away leaving the food there for 5 minutes.
The server offered us a free dessert which we also refused. We paid the bill and we left at 8:30.
Our favorite restaurant had closed during the pandemic and we were in search of a new one we could frequent, Luisa’s will not be that one, regardless of the quality of the food. We will not be returning.
Excellent food in a laid back Italian atmosphere. Luisa herself was there ensuring all of her guests were well looked after. Great time!
The food is rather generic and mediocre. House special wine is not good. Service was not very friendly.
We had a wonderful experience at Luisa’s. Not only did we love our food, we got to know Luisa and learn her story too. The meatballs were tender and flavorful, the same can be said for the osso buco. The carbonara was made the proper way, not with bacon & cream, but rather pancetta and cheese. It’s a small dining room so be sure to make your reservation early and I hope you get to meet Luisa too! We look forward to coming back on future visits.
My husband and I dined here before going to Cobb’s Comedy Club. It is conveniently located and offered the traditional Italian experience we wanted when visiting North Beach. We were very welcomed, and the staff was quite attentive throughout. We shared caprese, a meatball pizza and spaghetti carbonara and each of us had a glass of wine. All were deliciously prepared, and the price was very reasonable at about $100 with tax and tip.
Food is fantastic. Try this place, you won’t be disappointed.
Visiting the SF area and came across North Beach area. We chose Louisa’s because the menu sounded delicious and prices were incredible! That night we had a Mista Salad and meatballs, then my husband had the Seafood Cannelloni -which he raved about! He really enjoyed the wine sauce. I had the Chicken Marsala with pasta. Also very delicious. We don’t usually get dessert, but we couldn’t resist the Lemoncello Cake which we shared and had a cappuccino. Can’t remember ever eating this much food, but it was hard to resist!
The next morning as we planned our day we both agreed to go back to Louisa’s for dinner. This time we had a Caprese Salad, my husband had the Linguine and Prawns with the same wine sauce, I had the chicken Parmigiana with Pasta. Delicious again! We ended with a cappuccino.
Both nights we enjoyed Louisa’s Cabernet and Louisa herself. Louisa makes a point to make sure all her guests are enjoying themselves. Next time we are in SF we will definitely be eating at Louisa’s Restaurant.
Been to most Italian restaurants in SF and this one ranks very high. Menu is amazing.
What a local gem in North Beach! Great authentic Italian cuisine with superb, efficient service. And the best part was meeting the most charming lady Luisa herself! Hard to believe this restaurant icon is 92 years old because she has so much get go and inquisitive nature to know her guests. Try it soon. You won't be disappointed!
Great service, food was great and mimosa even better!
AMAZING gnocchi! I recommend the gargonzola sauce on them. Light, tasty, and definitely homemade. For dessert the limonchello cake is the bomb! The tiramisu is great also. Tiramisu is made with Cognac and a special coffee.
We will be back!
Food was delicious. We all had pasta. Good portions. Service was attentive. Highly recommend if looking for Italian food.
Great food, great service. Had an amazing experience
Food was outstanding! Pasta was so fresh and vodka sauce was yummy. Every bit was gone from every plate.
Lasagna was WONDERFUL! Owner Luisa (92 years young and sharp as a tack) joined us for a few minutes. Made us feel comfortable and right as home.
Delicious food and great atmosphere
The food was amazing and the experience was even better when we had the pleasure of meeting Luisa. Highly recommend!
Casual and tasty. Luisa is a character and very sweet. Great value.
It was one of the best dining experience I’ve had in SF. Luisa was there and she was very accommodating. The food was great from the antipasti all the way to dessert.
Forgot to leave a review about this wonderful restaurant.
Our server was a complete gentleman. Made us feel right at home. Let us enjoy our meal and checked in at the appropriate times. We sat inside for the first time in over a year!
Our Prosecco glasses were filled to the brim! Homemade bread was served with olive oil and balsamic. Nice and warm on a chilly San Francisco night.
Linguine tutto mare had a good ratio of pasta to seafood. The tomato sauce was delicious. Ate the entire dish.
The gnocchi were fluffy and light. Like eating little pillows. Pesto very developed with deep, classic basil and garlic profile.
Too full to enjoy desert. Very cute, quaint establishment. The pictures of Luisa on the wall were neat to see. Looking forward to visiting again one day!
Great food and service
Valentine’s Day with my wife. Treat of the day when no luisa came to our table, chatted and took pictures!
What a treasure she is.
Authentic Italian! Exceptional food, wonderful service!
A very pleasant evening during a difficult time. I think Luisa's is doing a very fine job of returning to service during these trying times. We had our meal outside and notice all the protocols where thoroughly followed. The food is excellent and the service is caring and true. It was the final Night of Italian heritage festival which was mostly virtual this year but did manage to keep the restaurants along Grant humming with activity. Just a few blocks away Luisa's was far less bustling which was fine for us. We kept it simple with a pizza & pasta. The pizza was the 5 star yelp which didn't disappoint. The stuffed calamari pasta was ordered from a special menu and was delicious if just a tad chewy. Our waiter recommended the lasagna and look forward to trying that next time.
Authentic Italian food at reasonable prices. Luisa is there to greet customers and make recommendations. My family and I really enjoyed our dinner.
Best Italian in the city - wow!
The food was delicious, but the service was extremely slow. Our server was inattentive. The decor was uninspiring. It's the kind of place that I wouldn't mind bringing my kids, but not great for a date night.
This was our first meal at Luisa's, but it won't be our last. Everything was tasty, the service was great, and the prices were reasonable for the quality.
Food was prepared and presented poorly. the garlic bread was cold after about 30 seconds after bringing it to our table. The presentation was just chicken and broccoli for one of its dishes. My lasagna tasted weird and was lukewarm. my parents dishes looked good and tasted better albeit it was lukewarm also.
I don't think I will try this place again.
La comida es muy buena y la dueña de 91 años supervisa todos los platillos
