Madrina Bar y Tapas
Creative menu. Great service. Cool vibe. A memorable meal. Would definitely return the next time I travel to Toronto.
Great food and service but super loud for dinner (this was a Friday and they did have a DJ so I guess that was the point). Hard to have a conversation, although it was fun.
Unimpressive food. Far from real Spanish tapas. Overpriced for quality of the food.
I absolutely love Madrina Bar Y Tapas. The food is exceptional, the staff are incredible awesome and the customer service couldn't be better. I always have a great time at Madrina and the food is just the BEST in Toronto. I have not been to another Spanish Restaurant with such high standards in every aspect of their services.
Everything was perfect.
Everything excellent and a very creative cuisine.. My best Tapas ever
Since we enter we were welcome with a smile. The food was ridiculous incredible, the presentation was beautiful, the service was amazing and the ambience is just perfect . I will definitely coming back
An amazing tapas bar in the Distillery District. Service was amazing and the ambience is great. The food was delicious and unique. Pricey but well worth it.
Souper entre amis avant une soirée au Théâtre français de Toronto. Service amical. Tapas délicieux.
Last night we are at Madrina and had the most wonderful experience. As we couldn't decide what to order, Tim, the manager, set us up with a personalized tasting menu, which was delicious and perfectly thought out. We will definitely return and recommend Madrina to all our friends.
great food, amazing service, fun vibe. the cocktails were VERY sweet but good otherwise
Beautiful vibe and service. The food was phenomenal and gin and tonic cocktails were amazing
It was a little pricer than expected to be honest. Good food and ambience though!
Eclectic food. Tasty. Served at appropriate temperature. Nice wines. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Noisy. But that's OK.
We enjoyed our dinner. They have good variety of wines and cocktails selection. The foods are amazing, and the presentation of the foods just surprised us. We thought the food portions are small, but actually it’s really filling. The foods are tasty and bring us bac to Europe !
great selection of tapas and very unique wine selection
loved the ambiance
A bit pricey but excellent food and very good service
This place was amazing. Great food, service, and everything in between.
Thanks. I will be back.
I adore this place! The food is spectacular and the service is amazing. The bone marrow tartar is a perfect dish!
Food was well done and beautifully presented. All the staff were very friendly.
Food is excellent. I like the tapas formula. Seems very authentic.
Why does a restaurant need to always have music so loud..
I am beginning to choose restaurants that are conversation friendly..I have no desire toyell at the person sitting next to me..
Had a very slow service experience at Madrina. The place was empty but our server took almost 30 minutes to come and take our drink orders (was nowhere to be found). One part of our order never made it. Despite the restaurant being not busy, people around us came, ordered, paid and left before we even finished our meal.
We saw this when it first opened and always wanted to go to dinner.
We booked for a Friday evening. Age may be a factor here, but the lighting on the regular tables made it hard to read the menu. We asked to move to a high top table, against the wall, which was closer to the lights!
We chose an Aureola 2011 Tempranillo Garancha wine which was just great. There is a good selection of wines almost all from Spanish vineyards. Your server can guide those not familiar with Spanish wines.
The tapas menu is broad and interesting. There were four of us and most tapas are hardly big enough for two to share. The Patatas bravas and the Papas Arrugadas were very tasty as was the steak tartare on a marrow bone. The foie gras and anchovies were delicious but only enough to taste between four people. Especially the 2 Boquerones that cost $7! The are just two fillets of anchovy pretty much the same size as the ones you get in a 100g container for $10 at St Lawrence Market. The Huevos Estrellados were interesting, but they have to find a better way of eating it as it is very runny and comes on its own in a bowl We ordered Pa Amb Tomaquet (bread with tomato and olive oil) at extra cost even then the only way to finish it was with a spoon.
Overall we did enjoy the taste of most of the items, but it is not good value for money especially if anyone is hungry!
The menu items we chose were tasty, but I found what we had was not enough for 'dinner'. I realize that this is a sharing menu, however, I feel like tapas has been reduced to a rip-off in this city. My friend and I had 4 dishes (the anchovy fois gras was two tiny pieces of French stick toast with a smearing of pate on it) plus a small dessert that we shared and each had a white sangria drink (which was delicious) and the bill came to $110. before tip. It was a good thing we were not super hungry that night.
The service was good, and they have a very nice place but I do feel like I really was paying for their rent at this dinner!
Maybe sipping a sangria on the patio in the summer with a small plate each before we go to dinner is the best way to do this restaurant?
Food: Amazing flavours and quality of ingredients it brought me back to when I went to Barcelona. Some of my and my girlfriend favourite were the Grilled Octopus, the Layered Croquetas, The Olives (it’s actually a liquid ball of olive juice) the canned squids in squid ink, bone marrow tar tar. Drinks: we only had a pitcher of Sangria was good however I felt it was a bit over priced for being a sangria. Service: excellent from when we were greeted to when we were being served, our waiter Natasha gave us great advice as well as knowledge about the different kind of foods. Super attentive on bringing the food as well as checking if we needed more tapas. Environment: good ambiance with good character especially given its location. Price: A little on the high end especially for people who have never experienced tapas before, however given the quality of food it’s understandable. Overall excellent place I would recommend it to anyone for an authentic tapas experience, congratulations to the Chef Ramon and the manager on duty Javier. Keep up the good work
We absolutely enjoyed each of type of plates
Specially the oysters ant the crab.
And the small squid in ink sauce with the tomato bread!
Lovely place with a high-quality fresh food !
Madrina is definitely the place to go if you are celebrating something special. Our servers Josh and Kimmy along with their talented manager took great care of us and surprised us with their best dishes, as I had asked Josh to hand pick the menu for us. Every dish came with an interesting origin story and pristine presentation. This was the most memorable birthday dinner experience for both my partner and I. Service was impeccable to say the least. Thank you guys for making our birthday so special!
The food was terrific, the cocktails were delicious, the service was excellent.
But the music was so loud, we could barely hear each other and often had trouble hearing our server, who also had trouble hearing us. We felt as if we were under assault from the pounding beat. We go to restaurants to eat and chat, not to listen to loud music.
Also, the service was almost too fast. We planned to have a cocktail, then a glass of wine with the food. By the time we finished the cocktails, the food had all arrived and we had eaten our fill. So we left.
We’ll return, but in the summer, when we can eat outside — away from the music.
Place was nice, service was good. The portion size is ridiculous. The anchovie dish was 2 tiny pieces. The paella was served on a tiny dish - every tapas dish seemed tiny (compared to the likes of bar raval, bar Isabel, patria). We ended up going for a bite to eat after “dinner” at Madrina
Ambiance of the restaurant was the best part of the experience. Service was quite friendly. Food was good however not excellent or really memorable.
Food was excellent and decor was beautiful. Service was slow (and intermittent) upon arrival, while dining and in settling the bill. That was a little surprising as there were a number of staff working. I would return for the food and atmosphere but would look for improved service.
The atmosphere was great, well designed place, smart small plating..
A fantastic meal was created by the Chef and team. They provided an excellent dinning experience and the best Tapas in Toronto. We could not ask for more. It was absolutely delicious. Thank you to everyone!
Other than the octopus which was lovely, the food was mediocre. Quality and quantity was not good value. Spent $165 for 2 people with 2 drinks each and 4 tapas and left hungry. Room is beautiful and staff are friendly.
Right inside Distillery District. Tastefully decorated. It was fun to sit at the high tables by the window; however, the tiled table top was too uneven. It was almost impossible to position the plates and the stemware in such a way to prevent them from wobbling. Luckily, many dishes were bite sized and didn’t require much cutting. The service was good, but the dishes were brought out in no particular order and often two at a time or before we were finished with the previous dish.
The dishes we would recommend:
1. Salt Spring Island mussels escabeche. They were very tender. Strangely, there were only 5 pieces even though the menu says 7.
2. Piquillo Pepper, although the sandwich was too hard.
3. Crab (Montaditos).
4. Patatas Bravas Madrina Like a Millefeuille.
5. Tortilla de Patatas.
6. Sea Bream Tiradito.
7. Grilled Octopus. It was very tender. However, the curry scented chickpea hummus didn’t go well with the octopus.
8. Oxtail Mini Baguettes.
The dishes we would not recommend:
1. Avocado Gazpacho. It tasted sour, and we couldn’t taste the avocado at all.
2. Shrimp Croquetas. It was too mushy inside. At the same time, the fried shell wasn’t golden enough.
3. Paella of Red Shrimps. It was too salty. Also, the rice was too hard; it felt like eating popcorn kernels.
4. Chocholate Ganache. Strange presentation. It felt like eating toast with Nutella spread sans the hazelnut flavor. In general, there were not enough choices of sweet tapas.
We went for a light meal before going to the theater. The food we chose was lovely, the tapas suggested by the staff were ok. Good wine list, could benefit from additional pairing with microbrewery. Cheese was good but overpriced. We will be back again.
Great new addition to the Distillery District. So many interesting tapas and beverage options.
