Makimono Sushi Bar & Restaurant - Whitby
Food was good but service was slow and parts of order were missed.
There were 7 of us and is supposed to be all you can eat, but we were not able to order any more from the tablet. Our server seemed to disappear even thought there was no uneaten food on the table. A little disappointing.
Great place to try things. Good value for Lunch Buffet.
Service was poor. Food took way too long to come and our son had to leave with only appetizers to eat due to an appointment he had.
The food was pretty good for the most part. One dish had a hair in it and the manager blamed the supplier and didn't apologize. The service was really bad. No smiling, not very attentive, no communication at all. At the end when we paid our bill not a thank you, just walked away. I've been there once before and it was fine, but this was exceptionally bad. I wouldn't go back at this point, there are too many other options in the area.
Love this restaurant — fast service, always great food.
I have been there twice in the last few months and the service seems to just get worse. This time in particular we were enjoying our meal only to have both our waitresses repeatedly asking us if we wanted our dessert and bill even though we hadn’t received some of what we already ordered. We felt rushed to get our bills and when we did pay our waitress asked us if there were any problems and pointed at our receipts saying we hadn’t tipped. We tried to explain to her that we were leaving the cash in our hands as a tip but after how rude she was to us basically telling us to tip her we thoughtfully declined. I called the manager afterwards just to let him know our experience and he basically told us that his waitress is to blame and rushed us off the phone and hung up. Overall there are way better places to get sushi then here. Especially when it comes to services you would receive better service anywhere else!

This was our second visit and it was just as good the 2nd time. The i-pad ordering is such a novelty and kinda fun too. Service was slow on our 2nd visit which was puzzling as it was not crowded. But the wait staff is friendly and helpful with the dishes. Plan to go again.
I love this restaurant but the bathroom is always pretty filthy.
Love Tatemono in Whitby. Go there quite often and is one of my favorites. All you can eat sushi is awesome and price is good. Spider and red dragon rolls are really tasty. Good customer service all around. One of my go to places.
Getting a table can be a hassle, there rarely seems to be a hostess handling guests as they come in and build up in the small corner. But once you're seated it's a quality experience.
Servers are so rude.. but the food is amazing, comes fast, and is definitely worth it to get all you can eat! nice place, it’s a shame the staff is so awful
Food was served very fast and everything tasted good. Waitress was fast and attentive & I got a rose for Valentine’s day for dining there!
They really need to turn down the music.. It was way too annoying! And they need to pay more attention to the orders being placed... Missed 3 of our items and when we advised of it, there was no apology.
The food is gross, I found a lot of hair in My food which weren’t mine! And the waiter spilled water on me!!
Tatemono offers great variety of choices and fast and attentive service.
Had to order dessert directly with server as the iPad ordering system was turned off or timed out while chatting and catching up with friends. No issue, just odd.
The food was good and promptly delivered to the table. There was a bit of a delay waiting for the wait staff to complete the order on the iPad, but Friday night is busy, so it's not unexpected. The menu has great variety and most of it is fantastically delicious. The tables are adequately spaced apart such that there was space for a fairly bulky stroller without blocking the walking area.

This was the second time eating at Tatemono. The first time the food was good (nothing spectacular) but we decided to go a second time because it was close to our friend's home (another couple who joined us) and we four all enjoy sushi/Japanese food. The quality of most dishes this time was fair to good and dishes came surprisingly quickly. However, the special rolls were huge and sloppily put together, as if the chef was new to Japanese cuisine and did not have the experienced touch to make tight, elegant rolls. They fell apart even as they were brought to the table and were about 4 times larger than what we've seen at most Japanese restaurants. The seafood (sushi) and seafood in the hand rolls did not taste 'off', but it also did not have the clean, pure taste of extremely fresh seafood. Really, the quality and presentation were inferior to what one can get in the deli counter at grocery stores! Even the steamed edamame were limp, as though they'd been sitting for some time before being served (or possibly re-heated many times). We had some non-Japanese dishes, which also were sloppily cooked - the shrimp dumplings (dim sum style) conglomerated into one mass of chewy, overcooked rice wrappers with small shrimp interspersed within the mass. Even something as basic as green tea was poorly made - the water was tepid rather than hot, so a potentially refreshing brew - was not. So it was a very, very mediocre meal - on a night that was not especially busy (so no excuse there) - and my partner and I concluded we will not be back.
The manager is very rude
The service beyond the first order is SLOW. We had to ask a few times if the food was coming. My husband and son left hungry.
I come here a few times a year for my AYCE fix. The options are limited at lunch for the price, but dinner is fantastic. If you let them know about your need for gluten-free they can accommodate it fairly well, though many menu items beyond sushi/sashimi/rolls will be off-limits.
Service was a little slower than usual even though the restaurant was not full.
Overall experience was satisfactory.
Another good meal. Seems like they raised the price just for Valentine's week with no added menu items

Waitress not very friendly. Food was brought out twice and she tried to argue with us. We had already finished mains and ordered dessert and she started bringing out sushi again. Bathrooms filthy.
I found this has gone downhill - the food just wasn’t great. Sushi didn’t taste fresh at all but overly mass produced, they messed up and order and rather then remake it they just topped the original one with mayo, the beef was stringy and over cooked. All but one of the servers were disinterested and rude. Not a place I will be going again.
Great food, however I find whenever the group number gets larger, the smaller the portions get! We had 8 people, and when we ordered say, 6 orders of a dish, only 1 would show up...and not just a serving size of 6 heaped onto 1 plate, but literally an individual serving. Food tastes great though!
Everything was great and service was quick and efficient. The only thing is they didn’t bother to check the OpenTable reservation and check off that we were there.

Had previously enjoyed dinners there but went for an all you can eat birthday lunch and was disappointed that quantities came out consistently less than stated on menu and items such as the avocado salad were ridiculous ...1 small thin sliver of a piece of avocado ...when I inquired of the server I was basically told if you order off the main menu it comes out with more. Not impressed! Not up to previous standards or experiences for sure. Will likely avoid returning again.
I found there were lots of options for "all you can eat" and it was reasonably priced. I liked the fact that the portions were small so I was able to try more dishes.
Better than past experiences I've had here.
We eat here a lot and I always order the same food. Unfortunately I was disappointed this time. The food came out quickly (almost too quickly). We were at the table and out the door within 37 minutes. The tempura udon didn't have a lot of flavour. I ordered a spicy tuna handroll and the tuna was bad (tasted very salty and fishy which tuna is not supposed to). I would try it again but will be reluctant to order the same things.
Pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. Very accommodating, we arrived an hour earlier than planned & they had no problem moving our reservation up. The food was outstanding, as all you can eat Sushi places go, this is now by far one of our favourites.
