The food, drinks and service were all amazing. Happy hour old fashion was quite tasty! Mozzarella sticks batter is light and delicious. The smothered pork chops are my new favorite, so much flavor and a great portion size.

Consistently good food. We love the fried mushroom appetizer and our family loves the fried green tomatoes. I had a very chunky chicken tortilla soup and two of the rest had liver and onions. All delicious!

Love the changes of Mama’s cafe under the new ownership of the Lawton family. Eat here often…I am celiac and they offer numerous options that can be prepared GF including chicken fried steak with GF gravy! 🙌🏻 This is truly delicious and a REAL treat. Staff is always friendly and pleasant atmosphere to enjoy dining with family and friends.

We told our waitress that the mushrooms and gravy tasted like they did 30 years ago at the side by side San Pedro locations and we will keep coming back for consistently good food, it helped that our waitress was on the ball on a busy evening and made frequent stops at the table to inquire

Our waiter was attentive and responsive. We had to wait over thirty to forty five minutes to get out meal. We were comped one of the entrees for the inconvenience.

My entree was the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. The server(Xavier) made it his mission to have the green beans cooked soft. Mission accomplished!

So glad we stopped here for breakfast. My husband had the roast and grits and I had the pancake platter with eggs and bacon. Both dishes were delicious but I will say, the roast was the absolute best!!

Great dinner for our family! Loved the food and drinks. We had catfish, chicken fried steak, schnitzel, and the deviled eggs, which were all amazing. Cost is affordable as well. Definitely worth a weeknight trip out!

I knew the gluten free chicken fried steak would be a treat after many years without, but was surprised at how wonderful the side dishes were, as well. My dining companion couldn’t stop raving about her red fish. It all made a plain weeknight seem special.

Food was very good & some of the old favorites remain from prior iteration . Unfortunately a couple in our group hoped for one of those items no longer included. Pricing of entrees, in general, slightly higher than other cafe’s in what could be considered “similar class”.

Great food and reasonably priced for portion size, we had a minor miscommunication because they counted babies as part of party of six and we were seated at a table for 5. I asked host for another chair and he immediately responded by "Next time you should call because we count babies" which I did not appreciate and felt he could have said it in a different tone/manner. Owner/manager came around and asked how our food was and checked in, he spoke to several guests and knew some personally. Definitely a place people go back more than once and looks like he gets to know his regulars. We will definitely be back to try lunch.

Mama’s Cafe has something for everyone’s tastes! We have found a few of our favorites, including the fried mushrooms appetizer (comes with two (!) dipping sauces - ranch dressing and cream gravy) and crispy deviled eggs. Mama’s does a delicious chicken fried steak and a chicken fried chicken- the gravy is perfectly seasoned, and goes great with the mashed potatoes and chef’s vegetables. We love the Wine Wednesday special - half price for a very good bottle. Be sure to check the off-menu items. The chicken piccata with mushroom orzo is the right combination of light creamy lemon caper sauce and decadent creamy mushroom sauce on the orzo. All the servers have been personable and conscientious, although the place always is very busy. So glad we found this neighborhood gem!

Have been mamas patron since the beginning in the 1970s on San Pedro. Continued with Mamas on Nacogdoches. Food was always good. Since the big remodel the place looks great however the food has changed a lot and the open kitchen concept makes it incredibly noisy. This visit was my 3rd visit after the remodel. Took a guest here recently after a McNay Art Museum function for Patron Members and the food was so bad we did not eat it. Waiter was nice.

The food and service are both great! Try the chicken fried steak - you won't be disappointed. They have a decent draft beer selection. I'll be back again - just make note of the noise level. It's very loud.

Our server was on it! She was so good and all smiles. I asked for well done chopped and it was burnt to crisp so I won’t do that again. Grandkids loved their food.

Mama’s was wonderful, as usual. The pork schnitzel is fantastic, and their German red cabbage is something I would never have suspected that I would like - but I get it every time now. Just a couple of hours before we went, reservations for every time were available on Open Table, but I know that lots of folks son't make reservations and end up waiting a long time. I made the reservation, they sat us right on time, and served us quickly even though the place was packed. The inside is kitschy but fun, and in cooler weather they have a shaded patio that is a must.

Got the special of the day. Crab cakes for appetizer, lemon caper chicken for entre. Excellent food and service. The venue is not real nice. Hard bench seats no cushions. Very very cramped and loud. But food was great.

Have not eaten here in many years. I will say the chicken fried steak from Waygu beef might be the best I have ever eaten. Liked the fact that I could make reservations as the place was already getting very full at 11:15 AM. Excellent wait staff.

The inside of the facility is pleasant and clean. The wait staff is knowledgeable, pleasant, friendly and efficient. The food is overly salty and greasy. The saute'ed vegetables haphazard and the mashed potatoes, again, way too salty. The portions are adequate but approximately $40 for a piece of liver and two pieces of chicken even with a starch and a vegetable is just beyond reasonable .
