This was a 90th birthday celebration. The service was outstanding and the staff did everything to make this an outstanding birthday celebration, including a special handwritten note.
Our team was so thrilled to be able to assist you in celebrating such a monumental birthday! We are glad you enjoyed yourself. We look forward to see you again! Happy Birthday, Margeaux Brasserie Team
My wife and I had been here before for her birthday in December 2018 and had a completely different experience. Back then we had delightful attentive service and a wonderful experience. We had a great table and view and our waitress was great.
Tonight, we received slow, apathetic, and non-attentive and an overall unpleasant experience. First they stuck us in a poor location near the waitstaff’s stand. Secondly, it took forever for us to get service including our wine, cocktail, and food order. Then they forgot items in my wife’s order. They never brought out bread btw and we had to ask twice for it when my wife’s onion soup came out. Lastly they just didn’t seem to care. I am so disappointed that my wife said we will never come back again. Their food is good but they never asked my wife or told her how rare they cooked her salmon. It didn’t matter at that point. We skipped dessert for that reason. It would have taken forever and they may have gotten the order wrong. They did some nice things like bringing us chocolate financiers in lieu of dessert but it wasn’t enough to salvage an unpleasant experience.
Friendly, expedient, and professional staff. Pleasant themed décor. Enjoyable jazz at the Sunday brunch. Creative and well prepared dishes with outstandingly fresh and flavorful ingredients. Prices are absolutely respectable for a Chicago hotel restaurant.
We had a beautiful, romantic evening. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable, service was great, and the food was AMAZING!!
My first time at Margeaux Brasserie—booked lunch to celebrate a friend’s bd. I had arrived early and gotten a glass of Rose (after asking the waiter to describe the differences).. When my friend arrived, the waiter inexplicably assumed she wanted the same, brought the bottle and was about to pour it, when we stopped him. She asked for a glass of Pinot Noir. The waiter brings out a bottle of Rose made w pinot noir, talking about how the restaurant is the only place serving it.... (oh, and at $20 a glass, the most expensive of the wines). again, she says that isn’t what she ordered, but she tasted it (to appease the waiter) and conveyed, no, she wanted a glass of Pinot Noir...l was pretty embarrassed (& disappointed) by these screw ups.....After our food arrived, which appeared fine, the waiter didn’t return until we were done, leaving me without getting ketchup wanted for my fries... Several minutes after we had stopped eating and I asked for the bill, the waiter brought a small dessert with a candle...A nice touch, but timing was a bit off..... (the restaurant had only a few customers for lunch but seemed no one was paying attention........ The place was lovely and i will likely return, and trust the waiter won’t make assumptions about our drinks (or anything else, for that matter).
We wanted to like Margeaux Brasserie. The atmosphere was comfortable and the service was attentive. However, the food was disappointing. It was presented beautifully, but was not particularly tasty. We had the express lunch, mine with salmon and my friend's with beef. The onion soup was okay, but it burst over the top of its little bowl. The salad was tasteless. The salmon was okay but nothing special, and the macarons for dessert were also serviceable but not great. Overall, it was disappointing, and I do not think we will return.
The French Toast on the brunch menu is delicious. Live music on the weekends is great.
Sit in the bar area... And drink. Canard duchene champagne.. Life is excellent
This is a marvelous restaurant to go to for a spe ial occasion or quiet business lunch. Located in an elegant hotel, one is greeted as soon as you step off the elevator. The two rooms are beautifully appointed with lovely dishes, chandeliers, andwhite tablecloths. Service is attentive and helpful. The menu at lunch offers something for everyone. But the 4-course express lunch is a reasonable an excellent option with a cup of french onion soup, small salad, "beef Wellington" and dessert. It was all delicious and just enough to satisfy anyone. Drink choices were varied also. Plus the restaurant proved a dessert with candle to celebrate my companion's birthday. I recommend this restaurant highly!
Wonderful food & service! Great locale for special occasions. Thanks for helping us have a joyful evening.
our second time here, first for brunch. both meals were top notch. the food was great, the service was wonderful, and we really enjoyed the live jazz.
highly reccommend this restaurant!!
We had a fantastic evening. Service and food outstanding Celebrated birthday with6 friends. Very gracious service and lovely details to celebrate my birthday. Food was so good. Can’t wait to return.
Celebrated a 4 year anniversary dinner here and the experience was amazing! By far the best dining experience we’ve had as a date night for 2. They even gave us a personal handwritten card and complimentary champagne to start off the night. From the seating arrangement to food and service, everything was excellent! We’re definitely coming back for more!
Perfect cuisine with thoughtful wine offerings and exceptional service... excellent in every respect!
Not knowingly arrived 5 min before closing time. The staff was very patient and accommodating
It was an end to my 40th bday celebration...with one of best friends....and their food, service, and ambience were all beyond my expectations.
Our server, Jack, was super nice, attentive, and helpful...and attended to us when we needed him. Everything was prompt and satisfactory.
The ambience...well, it’s a Waldorf. It’s classy, it’s clean, it’s upscale, and it’s cozy at the same time. Great crowd, and it was just quiet enough to enjoy our conversation. Decors were very simple but classy as well, and the chairs were super comfy.
The food: ok. Let me just say that duck wing l’orange was the best I had in a very very long time. The sauce was just delectable-not too sweet or heavy. Escargot was amazing...and steak frite was very delectable. I ordered the lunch special with salad frisee, french onion soup, beef wellington, and french macarons. At first, I was taken back by the beef wellington because it was nothing like the ones I’ve had...this had shredded beef in them. So reluctantly I tried it with their red wine reduction sauce...and YUM!!!! It was actually really delicious!!!!
Very very satisfied with MB, and we will most definitely return for breakfast or dinner soon!!!!
Very poor service. Place was empty and still slow.
The atmosphere was great. But I was very disappointed in the level of attention paid to us by our server. We went long periods of time without seeing him. Our water glass and tea glasses were empty more than they were full.
Celebrating my daughter’s 16th Birthday. Beautiful table reserved, handwritten birthday note, impeccable service, divine meal, cake and candle. We will be going back again, and again.
I absolutely LOVED this dining experience! The escargot were the best I’ve ever had. The wine list was exceptional and the service was top-notch. We were there to celebrate a birthday and they were very gracious.
Good service and food. Perhaps pricier than necessary, but the happy hour specials and Monday night half off bottles of wine (note: not the full list, only a small selection are half off) were a good deal. Would certainly return for happy hour + Monday dinner.
Not sure what time warp they were hit with but 45 mins to get drinks to all at table is unacceptable. Furthermore their refusal to control wild children running around and swinging from curtains is further guarantee I’ll never eat here again. Food was not worth the price or aggravation.
The food was wonderful and the service was great. We went to the bar at night and the restaurant in the morning. Both experiences were great!
We are glad that you came to visit us for the full experience of both our bar & restaurant. We hope to see you again sometime soon. Thank you, Margeaux Brasserie Team
Delicious food, lovely ambiance, and fantastic service. My wife and I recently came to Margeaux to celebrate our recent marriage, and our server, Kelly, did an outstanding job of helping us to celebrate. We tried the oysters, tartare, duck wings, Brussels sprouts, macaroni, steak frites, and salmon Wellington - all of which were truly superb. From start to finish, Kelly and the entire staff made every effort to ensure we had a perfect evening. 5/5 stars and we will definitely be back very soon
How wonderful to hear that you were able to start off such a monumental experience with a lovely dinner experience with us. We are always thrilled to assist in celebrations for our guests, so we thank you for allowing us to create wonderful new memories with your wife. Wishing you the best, Margeaux Brasserie Team
What a wonderful experience. You know I do love Margeaux. The only disappointment is that I thought the band started at 10:00 a.m. and they still weren't fully set up when I left. Next time I come for brunch I'll doublecheck their start time and make a reservation around that time so that I'm sure to hear them perform - they are great. My wait person is like a friend. Ditto the bartender. Luv them both.
Antionette, We love having you in for your frequent visits for our brunch. We are sorry the band was not quite ready to go for you upon your reservation time. They are always a lot of fun & really make the experience one to note. We look forward to seeing you again soon & will certainly confirm with you on the band's arrival time. Thank you, Margeaux Brasserie Team
There was a lovely birthday card waiting for us and there was an extra birthday dessert brought. Great experience.
We ordered cheese, crabmeat on endive lettuce and steak tartare as appetizers and then split the trout dinner. Paired with nice wines the food was quite good, the servers friendly and the atmosphere intimate albeit a little noisy.
You certainly selected some of our best dishes to enjoy for your evening with us. We are glad to know that you were well taken care of, even when the volume is a bit more than expected. We look forward to having you join us again, maybe on a weeknight when it is a bit of a calmer atmosphere. Thanks! Margeaux Brasserie Team
It was my birthday and they could not have been more gracious and generous in helping us celebrate! Thank you!
Thank you for allowing us to assist you in celebrating your birthday. We hope this one goes down in the record books as being one of the best ever! Thank you, Margeaux Brasserie Team
Bartender rude at best. Baguette impossible to break, cut or eat. Toasted sliced bread was burnt also impossible to eat. The chouquette dessert rang a different price on bill than featured on the menu. Overall, underwhelming experience. Disappointed.
We are so sorry to hear about this poor experience. We certainly never want our guests leaving with an experience such as this. We do appreciate your feedback, and hope that we are able to show you our true sense of hospitality again in the future. Sincere apologies, Margeaux Brasserie Team
Our server and all the staff were fantastic. Food was delicious and drinks were excellent as well. We came in earlier in the dinner service so ambiance was nice and quiet. Definitely save room for the Baked Alaska!
The staff there are exceptional in every way and made our special occasion one we will remember for a very long time. It was so special I plan on calling the Manager to tell them in person. I haven’t had an experience like this in any other place really, and will tell everyone I know to make this the place for their special occasion or just go to experience it!
Overall a Wonderful brunch. The omelet, the location, the music, my seat by the window all contributed to a wonderful Sunday brunch.
First of all the wait team are excellent! Very accommodating to our needs and just great overall hospitality Duck wings, foie, loop de mer, salads were all excellent. Desserts of the banana tartin and the chocolate macaroon were to die for.
I took my gf out for a different dinner. Food is super . Wine list outstanding. Go Margeaux if you need a sophisticated place for a special date or business meal
We were a party of 6 but overall the food and experience was horrible. First of all finding that restaurant was a pain. There are absolutely no signs whatsoever on finding it. You enter then you have to take the elevator (you don't know that though- No signs!) Then you are not sure what to press in the elevator. You guess around.
When you get up there no one is there to greet you. It takes a minute until YOU look for a waitress and ask them for your reservation.
Then you go to your seat (the place looks fancy). Once we got there it took a while until our server came. His name was either Jake or Jack. He did do very poorly as he did not spend time explaining on the dinner menu. He also never came back to ask if we need anything or if the food was good. I had to call for him to ASK MYSELF for the dessert menu!!
I ordered the Steak Frittes which was absolutely horrible. And I paid $34 on it. The steak was COLD. Literally COLD! I also ordered the burger to share with someone. That was okay.
I won't go back there, such a disappointment!
Service between courses was very slow. We were there for over 2 hours. Everything else was great! The waiter seemed a bit frazzled and rushed even though very slow.
I went there for Mother's Day brunch and was looking forward to brunch items but they had a pre-fixed menu and was not offering the regular menu. Beet salad was good but needs more arugula. Lemon tart was just okay, didn't like the biscuit. Salmon was very good. I will go back again to try their regular menu. We were seated in front of the live band, so it was fun but just a little too loud.
Service was very slow, we got a special 3-course brunch and took forever for second course to come out. Long after we were done and no one came to clear our plates or bring third course, we actually had to wave down a hostess, although our server and what appeared to be a manager rushed past our table several times. So we ended up getting third course to go, because we were with kids and had been there for so long. Was a really bad ending to a so-so meal. Made it worse that no one including server even acknowledged or apologized for delays. First course was good, and live band was nice.
I took my mom here for a Mother’s Day brunch and were blown away. Food was exceptional and it made her feel very special. Definitely will be back here!
At the end of the day it was a restaurant in a hotel, albeit a very nice hotel. The server looked like he had better places to be and the food was fine. In the city of Chicago with all its amazing eateries, this was nothing to write home about.
