had the tasting menu-which was great. Excellent wine list-knowledgeable staff and good service. Great atmosphere and space
For the price of the food I was disappointed that the pork neck was too salty and GF options were not clearly listed. However the vegetables and gf toast were delicious.
The evening we dined the noise coming from other diners was deafening. The table next to us had another 3 unexpected guests arrive just after us, which was nice for them however it meant that we were pushed up against the other table and the noise from their conversations and other neighbouring tables left us unable to hear each other. Easily the noisiest dining room we've been to. The table of 2 next to us also complained to us about the noise. We asked to be moved from a table to a window bar seat.
We have recommended it to friends however have warned them about the noise factor.
Luckily food was outstanding and the service was pretty good.
Thanks for listening. :)
Excellent service although we had multiple waiters come to our table to ask if we were ready to order when we already had asked for some starters.
However wines extremely overpriced.
Key stand out were the mussels
I’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints. Fantastic food and wine, great atmosphere and great service.
Really great. We'll be back. The wines are fantastic!
Another excellent experience at Marion. We were a group of 4 this time. The stand-outs were the mussels and the roast chicken for me, and the service was accurate and attentive. Great wine list which we took a few samples from. We will certainly go back.
Really nice lunch at Marion. Waitress with red hair was very helpful and friendly. Tables are a bit close to each other in the front room, so not very private. But food was excellent and drinks were good too. Would definitely recommend.
We came for my birthday and it started so well with the chorizo and octopus on crisp bread - delicious! And the bread was really lovely. Unfortunately, serving the potato and onion tarte tartin cold was very disappointing. The flavour was really nice but eating cold pastry is never good in my opinion. The prawn in the brioche bun - again the flavour was lovely but having the bun warm and the prawn cold was just a bit off. I also think that if you get a table in the second room where you can see the kitchen, the ambience would have been much nicer. The first room (where we were) feels a bit like an after thought. Overall, the experience was good but we were hoping for more
I was recommended this place by a friend and it was a hit. Food, wine, and service were all on point. Whoever did the playlist nailed it as well.
Amazing restaurant. Food delicious. Wine really good. Service excellent. Definitely recommend.
Great food and wine with a buzzy vibe. Enjoyed everything we ate and drank, can't fault it.
This is not the place to go for quiet conversation!
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the marion! My partner chose the spot for his birthday and everything about the night was just perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu, the food was devine and great value! We had the chefs special for $65 and almost couldnt finish it, there was a great range of foods to share accompanied by a cosy atmosphere and a great drinks list
The food was inventive and tasty.
The staff knowledgeable about food and wine.
Crudo was very fresh. Beef tartare full of flavour.
The room had a lovely character.
Tables perhaps a little close together.
We would definitely return.
Lovely fit out. Great wine selection, good food and friendly knowledgeable wait staff.
Excellent food, service and drinks. Really need to look at soft furnishings to soften the noise - this is a problem at most Melbourne fine dining places so not on their own here!
Wonderful evening, engaging, personal & informative service directed us to some new and innovative food & wine suggestions.
Stylish restaurant and wine bar, with a creative menu
The chocolate tart is a definitely MUST HAVE if you are dining at Marion! The food was also just delicious!
The service was good and so was the food. Although limited menu, everything we ate was cooked well. Some dishes were just meat and would be better to have vegies/salad with it, or wait staff could have mentioned this.
The only unpleasant experience with the restaurant was it was so noisy as the crowds came in, making it difficult to have a conversation.
Great experience all around! Fantastic wine selection to boot!
Always look forward coming here. It’s not too big, not too small and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Interiors are lovely and lighting beautiful. It’s Fitzroy in a glass.
Becoming one of my inner city Melbourne favs. Great wine list and nice food without being over the top. Excellent value too.
Cheese and wine selection is excellent. Thank you for being so accommodating!
delicious interesting food
lovely flavour service great
def go back
Where do you take foodies from Sydney for a Sunday Brunch ?
My partner being Vegan, as always says lets just walk around Fitzroy & find a place.
Not this time!
I got straight onto "Open Table" & was booked & confirmed in minutes for a table 4 @ 9am Sunday brunch @ Marion.
The Sydney friends were over joyed, they wanted to go Marion during their visit but not had the time.
So with ease, everyone was delighted with the Brunch, My partner was well catered for & the rest of us had delicious decisions of what to have.
Staff excellent & with smiles )) , beautiful surroundings , 5* coffee.
We all agreed will be booking Brunch or Lunch /Dinner when their next in town.
Recommend Open Table ! too easy
Coffee was delicious. Food was lovely. Unfortunately the music was a touch loud and a bit heavy for Sunday at 8:30am.
As always, food, service and wines were all outstanding. One of the very best in Fitzroy.
I guess we expected a degree of "wow" given Marion's pedigree, but we didn't get it.
The food, noting I think what was intended, was disappointing.
The wine list, on the other hand, is remarkable, but in many ways one for "stamp collectors": replete with geographical and varietal fascinations. The wines by the glass were accordingly interesting, but not necessarily satisfying.
Would I go back?
No, but there are other establishments nearby that we certainly attend regularly.
Incidentally, the service was friendly and efficient.
