The new assistant general manager was very kind to us, guided us through the menu & looked after us when we went next door then saw again at cumulus in the morning, left a meeting to make sure we got seated. By definition he went above and beyond.
Overall great experience. The bottle of wine we chose needed to be chilled, so whilst we waited the staff poured us a complimentary glass for the inconvenience. Delicious food with great ambience.
We enjoyed an awesome evening with friends. Starting off with drinks next door at sister venue Cutler and Co, we moved across seamlessly (bill did not transfer) and enjoyed delicious fare including savoury doughnuts and the delicious house made bread. Food options catered for a wide range of dietary preferences including vegetarian. The waiting staff made perfect recommendations for the table including wine. We’ll be back.
A Melbourne friend recommended Marion as a less expensive alternative to Cutler&Co. and I can thoroughly recommend it. Excellent service, great food and wine in a more vibrant, casual format at ‘everyday’ pricing!
An incredible space to spend the evening. The service was fautless! The food was really interesting with great diversity and variety with amazing flavours. A wine lovers heaven.
Great meal all round. Food, service, wine and ambience all top shelf
Marion always delivers. Great food and wine. Service is always friendly and professional. Love this place. Can’t wait till next visit!!
Went there for Mother’s Day. The food was really well cooked and prepared. The service and speed was outstanding. Would definitely go there again due to how nice, friendly and would definitely advise people to go.
We had a nice meal here but the restaurant did not live up to its rave reviews. The restaurant was overly crowded and the tables so close as to make conversation difficult. The service, food, and wine were all good though pricey.
Marion has it all - great food, great wine, warm and friendly ambiance. Perfect for sharing, the menu is great with the right mix of deliciousness to tempt most palates. The wine list was interesting too and the recommendations spot on. I can't wait to return on my next visit to Melbourne.
Recommended in Decanter magazine and certainly lived up to the review. We had a great night while visiting from the UK.
An enjoyable eating experience, with a good selection of food and wine served in a friendly atmosphere by experienced and helpful staff.
We had a lovely brunch here. Staff were attentive and food did not take too long. Bit of a wait for the coffees. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
When visiting Melbourne I always dine at Marion. There is so much I love about dining here. Great food! food that is in season, food that is tasty and balanced, food that is cooked well.
A wine list that is affordable and interesting ( if you want to indulge there is always the list from Cutler & Co to look at). But what makes this a restaurant that I keep returning to are the people that host the evening, the service staff that bring all this together with knowledge, empathy, warmth and skill. I return every time because this place ticks all the boxes for a great night out.
Best restaurant I’ve been to in Melbourne, incredible service, great food, amazing wine list, well catered for dietary requirements
If Marion was my local I would never eat at home. How does Andrew McConnell deliver such excellence at so many venues for so many years? He is a Melbourne gem. Thank you. Keep doing what you're doing, love it!
Great food, great atmosphere, excellent wine list and friendly staff.
had the tasting menu-which was great. Excellent wine list-knowledgeable staff and good service. Great atmosphere and space
For the price of the food I was disappointed that the pork neck was too salty and GF options were not clearly listed. However the vegetables and gf toast were delicious.
The evening we dined the noise coming from other diners was deafening. The table next to us had another 3 unexpected guests arrive just after us, which was nice for them however it meant that we were pushed up against the other table and the noise from their conversations and other neighbouring tables left us unable to hear each other. Easily the noisiest dining room we've been to. The table of 2 next to us also complained to us about the noise. We asked to be moved from a table to a window bar seat.
We have recommended it to friends however have warned them about the noise factor.
Luckily food was outstanding and the service was pretty good.
Thanks for listening. :)
Excellent service although we had multiple waiters come to our table to ask if we were ready to order when we already had asked for some starters.
However wines extremely overpriced.
Key stand out were the mussels
I’ve been here a few times and it never disappoints. Fantastic food and wine, great atmosphere and great service.
Really great. We'll be back. The wines are fantastic!
Another excellent experience at Marion. We were a group of 4 this time. The stand-outs were the mussels and the roast chicken for me, and the service was accurate and attentive. Great wine list which we took a few samples from. We will certainly go back.
Really nice lunch at Marion. Waitress with red hair was very helpful and friendly. Tables are a bit close to each other in the front room, so not very private. But food was excellent and drinks were good too. Would definitely recommend.
We came for my birthday and it started so well with the chorizo and octopus on crisp bread - delicious! And the bread was really lovely. Unfortunately, serving the potato and onion tarte tartin cold was very disappointing. The flavour was really nice but eating cold pastry is never good in my opinion. The prawn in the brioche bun - again the flavour was lovely but having the bun warm and the prawn cold was just a bit off. I also think that if you get a table in the second room where you can see the kitchen, the ambience would have been much nicer. The first room (where we were) feels a bit like an after thought. Overall, the experience was good but we were hoping for more
I was recommended this place by a friend and it was a hit. Food, wine, and service were all on point. Whoever did the playlist nailed it as well.
Amazing restaurant. Food delicious. Wine really good. Service excellent. Definitely recommend.
Great food and wine with a buzzy vibe. Enjoyed everything we ate and drank, can't fault it.
This is not the place to go for quiet conversation!
We had an absolutely wonderful time at the marion! My partner chose the spot for his birthday and everything about the night was just perfect. The staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu, the food was devine and great value! We had the chefs special for $65 and almost couldnt finish it, there was a great range of foods to share accompanied by a cosy atmosphere and a great drinks list
The food was inventive and tasty.
The staff knowledgeable about food and wine.
Crudo was very fresh. Beef tartare full of flavour.
The room had a lovely character.
Tables perhaps a little close together.
We would definitely return.
Lovely fit out. Great wine selection, good food and friendly knowledgeable wait staff.
Excellent food, service and drinks. Really need to look at soft furnishings to soften the noise - this is a problem at most Melbourne fine dining places so not on their own here!
Wonderful evening, engaging, personal & informative service directed us to some new and innovative food & wine suggestions.
Stylish restaurant and wine bar, with a creative menu
The chocolate tart is a definitely MUST HAVE if you are dining at Marion! The food was also just delicious!
The service was good and so was the food. Although limited menu, everything we ate was cooked well. Some dishes were just meat and would be better to have vegies/salad with it, or wait staff could have mentioned this.
The only unpleasant experience with the restaurant was it was so noisy as the crowds came in, making it difficult to have a conversation.
Great experience all around! Fantastic wine selection to boot!
Always look forward coming here. It’s not too big, not too small and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Interiors are lovely and lighting beautiful. It’s Fitzroy in a glass.
