We are HUGE fans of Massimino’s! We live Boxford and know the family and how wonderful they are and all they do to support our community.
As usual, the food was outstanding. We were just really disappointed with how close the tables were, literally less than a foot between seating arrangements. And most upsetting was our waiter wasn’t wearing a mask!!! Well, he had it, just under his chin. We were shocked and quite nervous. We decided we would continue to wear our masks until our food arrived. Because we were so uncomfortable we only ordered entrees so we could dine faster. Of course our meal was amazing, but it was all distracted by watching the man walk around, talking, hugging and engaging with the other customers.
The other diners seemed totally at ease and the waiter w/o the mask could not have been nicer. It was just disturbing to be in such a tight, confined eating environment and to have someone serving you not wearing a mask. Neither I, not my husband felt comfortable asking him to please wear his mask.
We will continue to support Massimino’s, but we will be doing it with takeout from now on.
I have eaten here several years ago. I was in Boston for one night and I had to go back. I ordered the linguine with seafood. It was amazing. Nice and hot and tasty. I could have had some nice Italian bread to soak up the sauce but it was not offered. The place is set up well for the current pandemic. I felt comfortable.
Ridiculously more expensive for the quality of food you get. But it was open later than everything else so worth it in that regard.
I love a restaurant that has character, friendly and engaging staff, that treats you like your part of the family. If you like that too, PLUS home-made authentic Italian cuisine, then this is the place to go.
The pasta is unbelievably fresh, the sauces are to die for and the Barolo wine selections are fantastic!
Never had a bad meal here. The Chicken Vinegar Peppers is the best dish. Service always knowledgeable and very attentive. It’s our favorite place and has been for 20+ years.
Massimino's was nearly empty...only 4 tables of diners at 7PM on a Tuesday. We ate downstairs for the first time. A nice cozy atmosphere. The food and service were great...as always.
Excellent Northend restaurant - chicken piccata is the best.
Loved it! My boyfriend and I went for Valentine's Day. Naturally, tables were running a couple minutes behind, but they ensured we had whatever beverages we wanted while waiting. Will be going back again in the nearer future.
Paulo (the construction worker Paulo/part owner) made the experience. He handled all of the tables downstairs and was an unbelievable waiter. He had great recommendations food wise and accommodated my vegetarian girlfriend like I’ve never seen before. He took one of the specials which was primarily meat based and made the cooks serve it with a creamy red sauce and most importantly, vegetarian based for her. Food was incredible. Atmosphere downstairs was great. One of my new favorite spots in the north end and I question why I didn’t go there sooner.
Food was amazing! Waiter was fantastic!
Is a perfect place to date and food. Very good. Very cozy
Absolutely love everything about this restaurant! Everyone was so wonderful and accommodating to my friends and I. The atmosphere where we sat in the lower level was amazing. I cannot wait to return! Delicious and wonderful and safe...
Our dinner last night was divine it’s the second time I’ve gone in a week that is how good it is the chicken cacciatore was amazing and the chicken Marcella is out of this world my first night last week for dinner there was the chicken Parm and egg plant Parm combo over linguine holy Toledo!!!
One of our Boston favorites! Would definitely recommend dinning here.
Great spot, wonderful staff.
Food was decent albeit too oily for my liking. Cutlery and bear glasses were not thoroughly washed and had stains. Staff was very polite and food was served in a timely manner.
We got sat late for our reservation. We kept being told we were going to be sat, but people who came in after us kept getting sat first. Finally he tells us for a 3rd time we’re going to be sat and we get the worst table in the whole place. Finally we’re sitting down and ask for bread and when it comes we ask for butter and he says there is none. Then brings some in front of us to the next table. The waiter asked my boyfriend if he wanted a drink and then walked away without asking me very rudely. We ordered an appetizer that after waiting 30 mins plus never came and then our food showed up. He never got me/ asked if I needed another drink. We had to yell for the waiter to comeover because he was ignoring us as well as hitting my boyfriends chair every time he came out of the kitchen. Not only was the server ignoring us he would then text a few feet away from us for minutes at a time ignoring us when we said excuse me. I put on my reservation that it was a special occasion and it was not even looked at or cared about. Then owner told us he would do something special for everything that happened and then went downstairs and was no where to be found. We saw many others get special treatment while we were treated horribly. On top of all that the place was filthy. There was old food in our glasses, the bathroom I wouldn’t even use because it was so gross, and we could see in the kitchen which was even grosser. The owner made us wait outside because of “covid” but when we got inside it didn’t seem like any rules were being followed... oh and we waited outside in 15 degree weather for 25 mins. The whole experience was horrible and we’re never going back again.
Just AMAZING ! Food was lights out and Joey our waiter was top of the line. Great kid! We will most def be back soon.
Food was excellent!!! Best caprese salad ever!!!! And the service is always fantastic!!! Love this place! I highly recommend.
Loved our server and meals! We all enjoyed everything we had and our experience was awesome. Would highly recommend as most of their pastas as home made.
Great adherence to COVID guidelines and our server Paulo was great!
Great restaurant, fun, lively delicious food. Came with a group of 6 for my birthday and it was fantastic!
the food was incredible. We want for our anniversary and can not wait to go back.
I want to start with the food. Because it was outstanding. The Marsala sauce is incredible. The Cabonara was very good as well. The meatball appetizer was flavorful and large enough to share. The dinner portions were large as well, would have taken 1/2 home if we weren’t in a hotel!
The bread and oil was sub-par. Partially sliced small loaf of bread, not warm or particularly fresh. The oil was good quality but lacked flavor.
The experience was average at best. The atmosphere was nice, rustic appearing. The music was 80s and 90s soft rock. Played far too loudly. IMO not a great fit for the place.
Our waiter was friendly and well versed in the menu, but we felt rushed the entire time. We arrived at 6 with reservations, ordered an app and drinks, dinner and a desert and were out by 6:45. Food was slapped down on the table. Not really in a rude way, just rushed. Courses were right on top of each other. Virtually no time between. If it were busy, I could understand the need to turn the tables over. But it wasn’t. For the majority of the time, we were the only table seated in the room.
Recommend the food, but will try another place the next time we are in the North End.
I enjoyed it, but they didn’t do a great job social distancing and I caught the staff without masks on properly quite a few times.
Food not fresh. Manager attempted to rectify, and did not further complain, but wont be returning. Lobster not fresh, cold cut appetizer looked like scraps on a plate, and rancid.
I dined here pre covid, and enjoyed a good veal parm dinner.
Veal wasn’t great but I think the pasta looked good.!
What even happened to this place??? Massiminos was one of my favorite places in the North End when I lived in Boston ( 5 years ago). I couldn’t wait to return! I made my birthday reservations and asked to be in the wine cellar... when we arrived the owner was outside and didn’t even greet us but tried to sit us at an outside table. I said “ Hi we have reservations in the wine cellar) and he said well sit here or you will have to wait and forced us to sit outside... on their makeshift patio.. facing a construction site. Our server was sloppy and careless. We were given dirty water glasses and stale bread ( we realize now that at this point we should have just walked out of there). We were going to order the caeser salad but it turns out Massaminos doesn’t make their own dressings... so we ordered our entrees. I ordered the seafood fra Diablo and my boyfriend ordered the chicken parm. I have to say when my dinner came out I didn’t even know what to do with it. Huge pieces of over cooked lobster tail ( the meat was stick to the shell) over cooked shrimp, several mussels that had gone bad, huge pieces of white fish atop a pile of soggy linguine. I was disgusted... I tried one bite and couldn’t finish. My date had the chicken parm which was like rubber. Our server did take my entree off the bill ( they should take it off the entire menu). The wine was the only thing that kept me sitting at that table. I don’t know what is happening over there but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else, anywhere else.
It was my wife’s birthday the food was incredible and our waitress was even more incredible
Had 4 sodas and the waiter charged us for 11 sodas at $3 each. Talk about trying to get money off people you assume that are tourists that live in the area. Never again
Food was delicious, service was quick, nice quiet area of North End!
Excellent food, service and drinks! Favorite place in the North end.
Long time since we dined here. Sat inside- very noisy. Our waitress was not very attentive~waited to long for our food, never was asked how our meal was and did not feel all was up to par regarding Covid 19.
Server wasn’t consistently wearing a mask. Bought a bottle of wine but the server broke the cork while attempting to open the bottle and then disappeared to the kitchen and returned with a carafe of wine we didn’t see poured. Bread and salad were mediocre at best. Entrees were decent.
Service was awful
Ate outdoors and it was a nice setting. The food is always very good.
The service was horrific- mistakes, missing meal, missing bottle of wine and no steps by manager to remediate situation. Will never go back.
Food was very good! Thought we made an outdoor dining reservation, but we ended up being indoors. Our table was social distance, but some others weren’t. They could be a little more aware of the Covid suggestions.
It’s just ok. Sat outside at a construction site
Whenever my husband and I go to the North End we have dinner at Massimino's. The food is always super fresh and delicious! This visit, my husband had his usual, the stuffed veal chop with a side as pasta with red sauce. He loved it!! And it is so huge, he took 1/2 of it home. I tried something I had never had before, Braciolettini Marsala which is chicken stuffed with ham and cheese in a Marsala sauce. I don't like mushrooms, so I opted out of that. The sauce had diced up ham in it and it was AMAZING! I got a side of pasta on the side with the same sauce on top. I think it was my favorite dish I've had there. I will definitely get it again! The service was also excellent. The only downside was we made a reservation for outside dining due to the pandemic, but they didn't have any availability outside. We had to sit inside but they had the windows open and it was still nice. Although that was a slight bummer, the FABULOUS food made up for it for sure!
