Had a $200 gift card for Max. Had been to Avon and West Hartford stores many times so we decided to take our great neighbors to the Tavern. Place was pretty dead due to COVID19. Sat in a booth in the back and were greeted by our condescending waiter Tim. We were in a festive mood but every exchange with Tim was awkward. One other person entered the place and was seated in the back area. They sat her in the booth next to ours with her back against us. Every other booth in the section was open, weird.
After cocktails and appetizers we all decided that since we were not comfortable with the waiters attitude and the menu was not thrilling us we would pass on having dinner.
With 1/2 our gift card in tow we headed to Max's Burger in Longmeadow. So glad we did. We had a great time with a great waitress (Patty) and the food was delicious. They announced as we ate at MB that restaurants would be closing the following night so we ate and drank and were merry and went out with a bang. $200 gift card, total spent $320.

Made a reservation @ 5:30 because I love the Cuban on the Tavern Menu. Was assured it would be available at 5:30.
It was not. Dinner menu was now the only one available. Fine, I order a White Belgian beer and the Attendant came back to tell me that they out.
Thus far Maxs' is 0 for 2. Thank God I ordered the crispy lamb, Boy Howdy was that a bangin' meal. I'll be back because I loved the Cuban anyway and now I lkove the Lamb.

Not what I had anticipated.
Am disappointed that they changed their chopped salad. It was much better prior to the change. Though our meals were good, the presentation was lacking.
As always, the filet was magnificent, perfectly cooked to a 'medium rare' (or, as one waitress put it, 'rare plus') degree, and the mushrooms were equally great. Our guests had never been to the restaurant before, but instantly became new fans; their only non-complimentary comment was "It's rather pricey", but that did not reduce their enjoyment of the meal.
We have dined at Max's Tavern at various hours of the day and evening, and we can advise that the earlier reservations for dinner, although not necessarily fashionable, provide the best ambiance and special service from wait staff who are not burdened with a lot of tables.
Max's Tavern receives an unqualified 'Outstanding' rating from our household!
Very busy night, but the staff handled it well like always.
The food was excellent. The combinations of flavor were amazing. Service was a little slow and confusing at time. The waiter was great but seemed overwhelmed. Rarely checked in on us. The hostess greeter could have a better personality. Rarely smiles and very short in communication. Bar seating was terribly. Don't go early for a cocktail at the bar. There is no room. I don't think you should serve dinner at the bar to circumvent reservations. It damages the experience of those with reservations.
Food service was slow
Had our post-Valentine's dinner here on Saturday night. Made a reservation and seated immediately into a cozy booth. Our server was attentive and took our drink order right away. I ordered the braised lamb on mint risotto and my boyfriend had the salmon. We thought both were delicious and the sides, accompanying the main meats were interesting and yummy! We split a Caesar salad which they were nice enough to bring on 2 plates. Had to ask for croutons though, the salad did not have croutons. Our server brought us some anyway.
We went with friends and had a great experience. Excellent steaks and service.
Always have had a good meal here. I stick to meat for my entree as I believe this is where they excel. The steak and prime rib are always great. They have the best shrimp cocktail in the area along with many other good appetizers. Can’t go wrong at Max’s.
Although it was Valentines Day and expected it to be busy, the service was slower than expected. Did forget to bring the bread. Food was good although the prime rib wasn’t very warm. Not a complainer so didn’t want it sent back. Was aware of the special menu but the dessert selection could have been better. Have been to Max’s several times and do like it however the value of the overall experience on Valentines Day just wasn’t there.
We are regular patrons at Max's. Valentines day dinner menu was fixed with no substitutions. It lacked normal vegetables and healthy choices. There regular menu is much better and is not loaded just with potatoes, rice and mushrooms. there's options. We did express our disappointment and the manager said she would see what she could do. She explained the menu was available on open table. We ended up with asparagus and sauteed spinach. The place was busy as would be expected on valentines day and the chef and staff should have left the regular menu options available. Next time I will make sure I know what the menu is and not just assume that as a long time patron its the same. Buyer beware!
We waited an hour for our dinner to come out and it was cold. Our waitress sent over the manager and she apologized and had the chef make us new prime rib and filet dinner. It was excellent. The manager adjusted our bill for the inconvenience. Probably won’t go back again.

The food was served a little cold and our prime ribs were a little too rare. Otherwise it was most enjoyable.
The quality of the food and its preparation is merely Superb. Whether dining on a special occasion such as Valentine's Day or simply enjoying a mid-afternoon treat, everything about the place is sure to please. The serving staff has that unusual ability to discern when the diner might - just might - wish something, and there he or she is! And their selection of adult beverages is well above the norm.
I am tempted to wax even more enthusiastic about this establishment, but I fear that everyone in Western Massachusetts will descend upon the restaurant and there won't be room for us!
The Valentine’s Day price fix $65 meal was disappointing. Chicken Entree had no sides...just a piece of chicken on a plate. I expected a lot more for the price. The red velvet cake was dry and tasteless and the key lime dessert was horribly sour and drippy. This Max restaurant was not the same quality as the others in CT.
My wife and I were in Springfield for just two days for an event. Knowing that Valentine's Day would be a busy restaurant night I searched the reviews a week prior, selected Max's and made reservations. When we arrived we were a bit surprised by the set price menu for the evening. We decided to just go with it and were extremely happy with the result. There were several entree options on the menu but we both selected the prime rib. The portions were large, the meat was aged, tender and flavorful with wine and spice infused au jus. The best I've had in decades. The appetizers were trendy and generous and deserts heavenly. The services was courteous and attentive without being annoying. All-in-all... an awesome evening. The food was excellent, the server wasn't. He was a good waiter, just not into it. We asked the waitress that brought our food for bread, she quickly said "yes, I'll be right back" but never came back. We would have asked our waiter, but he didn't check on us until we were done eating. I had a glass of wine, and would have enjoyed a second one, but. So, we stopped at our "normal" place for drinks instead of staying at Max's.

We out on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. My friend and I were impressed with our server, our food, and the overall experience at Max's Tavern. We can't wait to plan our next visit.
A group of 4 of us had a very good meal at Max's Tavern. The seafood was fresh and well-prepared, and the cocktails were delicious. I have visited Max's several times, and find the quality of their meals to be consistently excellent.

This was me and my family's first visit and everything was perfect. Josh was our server and he was pleasant and attentive. We started out with an appetizer.
We ordered Colossal Shrimp with Horseradish cocktail sauce and also a Maryland Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. It comes with Watercress, orange, fennel salad, cajun remoulade.
For the entree, my husband and son had a Tavern Burger with Applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, grilled onion, lettuce, tomato, and french fries.
I ordered the Garlic Ginger Shrimp. It consisted of Sauteed shrimp, campanelle pasta, kale, tomato-ginger butter sauce, roasted garlic. I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese and it was cheesy and delicious.
We will definitely be back since the food is really delicious and also the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame opens back up late March. It’s being renovated.
I had an excellent experience at Max's Tavern. I had a wonderful server, the food was prepared perfectly, and the manager made me feel right at home.
The taste and quality of the food was below what I expected. Our waitress was friendly and sweet.
We went to celebrate my birthday. Had been to the Tavern three weeks earlier for my daughter’s birthday. Complete different experiences. Not sure if it was having different waitstaff and or a different cook sign, but service was mediocre food was OK not what we expect from the Tavern
I made reservations with the OpenTable’s reward. The OpenTable website said that I would get $25 automatically deducted from my tab, but when the bill came they refused to take it off.

Excellent location, food and service
Their poke bowl is amazing. I suggest they have a more comprehensive craft beer list with pricing and alcohol percentages listed.
Excellent food across the board for our party of five, filets, rib eyes and scallops all cooked superbly and very tasty. Crime Bruele for dessert was super too. Service was spot on.
Veal had to be sent back twice. Ordered medium rare came back raw twice. Sent back and got a flank steak. After many years by far worst meal. Service was awesome.
