Mike's Palo Alto
We have now made Mike’s our “go to” place for birthday celebrations with friends - great food, great service, nice wines at decent prices and a fun ambiance. Love the remodel.
Upon arriving parking lot was almost full, we got the last spot. Inside, the very large restaurant was half empty at 6PM on a mid week night. Service was prompt and friendly. We ordered split salads and it was easily enough. The eggplant parmesan was OK as was the pasta w/meatballs. Both were too bland and needed more flavor, garlic perhaps. Noise level was high but tolerable, I was comfortable with the informal ambiance although tables were a bit too close, the back of my chair was almost up against the occupied chair behind me.
Midtown needed some energy and the new improved Mike's is just the thing. Twice I have been there for lunch and have had the tuna/avocado salad - ample portions and a wonderful lemony dressing.
New remodel has cosy casual ambience with a wide range of choices on the menu. Excellent and friendly service. Meals were delicious and a good wine list. Also reasonably priced especially for Palo Alto! Thanks for letting us linger at the table after our meal without feeling rushed towards closing time.
my lunch was quite delicious, although my coworker was somewhat disappointed... in general it was nice.
Before it’s remodeling mikes was our family’s favorite place to eat dinner. It was very affordable..
After the remodel I guess they have had to hike up the prices. Paying almost $30 for pasta with a small piece of salmon goes way beyond affordability for a casual family dinner
Don’t get me wrong .. this is a great place, wonderful food, good service .. but spending well over $100 for a week day casual dinner of four is way too much
Excellent minestrone! Service was quick, efficient yet relaxed. Very enjoyable
We were looking forward to trying the new and "improved " Mike's...but were disappointed and underwhelmed. The space looks great but it ended there for us.
The food was not that tasty and part of our meal was almost cold. Even had to request butter for our biscuits as none was offered.
Wonderful place to have a delicious dinner before a theatre performance. Our group is thoroughly enjoying your beautiful new decor and professional servers.
We had dinner there Saturday night. It was poor. The spaghetti was cooked to soft. The brussels sprout where undercooked for the second time. The lasagna was really heavy and greasy. Food that evening for 6 people was poor. However, I have been very satisfied in the past and maybe that evening the main cook was not there.
Mike's: What can one say? It's been consistently great for years; and so it continues in the "new" location!!!!!!
I love this new version of Mike's Cafe. The dinner menu is expanded and my favorite it the tuna crudo, beet salad and any of the amazing pizzas. Pastas are still wonderful and specials are awesome. My friend had fresh halibut recommended by the waiter and it was melt in your mouth awesome. Tiramisu is great, if you are a dessert person. It's easy to park, wonderful ambiance, and great people.
Enjoyed the meal!!
A pleasant place for lunch. Very good food and a great selection of food. A bit more noisy than I would choose.
The newly renovated space is really lovely. There were 4 of us for dinner. My tomato burrata salad had tomatoes so over ripe that they disintegrated on the plate into a red watery soup that could not be eaten with a fork. Three of my four fellow diners ordered lamb chops - cooked MEDIUM. We waited 40 minutes and got 3 raw lamb chops that had to be sent back ....another 20 minutes and they came back in stages so we didn't really eat together but in stages. MEDIUM does not mean blue- this is not France. There were 3 full cooks and yet the service was very slow even though the restaurant was only 1/2 full. Some definite kinks and we were also surprised that after such bad service there were no apologies from management. WE were lucky to get any food at all evidently. Obviously this place needs someone who knows how to run a restaurant. I would like to support local but can't go through the frustration again. Let's hope it improves!
Everything was perfect, thank you. I wrote a lengthy Yelp review that you are welcome to view.
Easily one of the best breakfasts we ever had, not just in Bay Area but in the US. The eggs and sausage were outstanding, so was the Spinach and Chicken Frittata. The waffles were good too. Service was attentive. It was surprisingly empty at 1130am on a Sat - maybe not too many people knew they reopened.
Price-wise is ok. I don't think they are overpriced because the pricing is similar to everywhere in the area. The quality of the food more than justifies the price.
Finally a Midtown restaurant that is pleasing to look at and dine in. Modern-rustic remodel on par with more urban places is a great addition to this part of Palo Alto. We no longer have to 'trek' to Cal Avenue for a bit of ambiance and energy with dinner. Just hope they can stay open later Thur-Saturday nights.
Service was excellent
Pizza was fantastic
Baked rigatoni is not recommended
We were seated at a quiet table. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The other wait staff were punctual in filling water glasses and removing plates when we were finished. Delicious cocktails and dessert rounded out our seafood dinners.
So glad you're open again. We missed you! Keep up the good work.
As usual a great place for dinner with friends.
We are so very lucky to have Mike's in Midtown, great food and location, location, location.
Calamari in Midtown is bliss. Love it Mike, great job!
A little pricey, but the food was delicious. I like the portion, not too much.
Mike's is a local restaurant that I want to support. However, since they switched to be an Italian restaurant, the food should not taste americanized. The pasta dish was bland and the marinara sauce had no flavor. Likewise on the pizza we had.
Met up with a couple of friends tonight at Mike’s Cafe. I had the burrata and fig pizza. It was delicious. My friends had seafood skewers and raved about them. Love this place!!
This was our first time back to Mike's since they re-opened after the renovation. While our bruch was good and the service was very good, we left feeling a little disappointed. The food was okay, but along with the renovation came higher prices. I know it is Palo Alto, but $ 116.00 for brunch for four (2 cocktails) is a little steep. The ambiance and decor is cold and not welcoming. The noise levels are fairly high. The interior is mostly hard surfaces which explains the noise. I have to say it..... we liked the Old Mike's better!
Love the atmosphere, service was unusually slow, seemed short handed. 2nd visit better than first. I know, growing pains, on the right track. Menu could be a little more contemperary, what do I know.... Thanks for caring.
Service and food quality are consistently good. It is my new favorite restaurant.
Mike's of Palo Alto is not just a remodel of Mike's Cafe, but a total reboot. The space has been transformed from company cafeteria industrial to a modern, welcoming space. It is a bit noisy, but there is a cheerful vibe from the minute you walk in the door. The prices are a bit higher, but this is offset by a full bar, a larger menu ( pizza!) and more sophisticated offerings. While I can't say that I don't miss the old Mike's (too bad there isn't space for both - it was definitely a reliable favorite of many people who live in midtown for good comfort food) I think that the new Mike's is a better representation of what the owner has always wanted to offer his customers. The special of burrata cheese on heirloom tomatoes with arugula was spectacular!
Used to go to Mike's Cafe for many years. Finally got to his new place. Delicious!! Great atmosphere and great staff. Definitely a positive addition to dining in this area. And you can actually have a conversation because the noise level is low.
Family get together. Service is consistently great! Thank you.
The remodeled Mike's is more elegant and although the prices are higher the food is better than ever. Service was perfect as well. All in all, it's great to Mike's back in business after a long hiatus for remodeling and expansion. We were particularly impressed with the burrata salad, the hangar steak, and the spumoni gelato (hard to get spumoni any more and this was a real treat).
Charming neighborhood restaurant with al fresco dining option. Brunch menu offered on weekends, and lunch/dinner served on weekdays. Thoughtful Italian-inspired menu, well executed and presented. Great wine list and cocktails offered. Attentive and pleasant service. Highly recommend!
We are thrilled to have the expansion of Mike’s Cafe. We have been regulars at Mike’s other restaurant called Portola Kitchen. Midtown PALO Alto needed a hip restaurant. Mike’s Cafe has a great bar, excellent service, and really quality food. I had the butternut squash ravioli with sage—I loved it. The pear Gorgonzola salad was also a winner. I highly recommend this gem!
Food was wonderful, I had shrimp and had this wonderful taste lingering afterwards.
We 've always loved Mike's and are glad they're back--and better than ever!!!!!
This is the first time in a long time that i feel like I could go to the same restaurant on a weekly basis. Haven't felt this way since we lived in SF
Food was freshly prepared and the Spumoni was the best!
Glad Mike’s is back. Will definitely come on regular basis.
Excellent food and service. I will say that this is the third time in
I have made a reservation with Open Table and each time I was immediately shown a table near the kitchen or toilets when other tables were plentiful and available. I have even put in the comment section, please do not seat me near kitchen or toilets. All reservations were made more than 24 hours ahead and restaurants were not overly crowded or booked. Baffling mystery that leads me to believe that reserving with Open Table puts one at the worst table available. Each time I have been able to negotiate a change of table before seating.
