Mike's Palo Alto
This neighborhood dining establishment is truly something special. Yummy food and professional, gracious service.
I enjoyed this place. Not fancy. Not the best food ever. Rather, it seems like a reliable “where should we go tonight?” kind of a place. Our food was good. The server was awesome. The ambience was casual. We did not have our toddler with us, but now that I have been there I would not hesitate to take him because it seem like a very child friendly environment.
Delicious food and great service.
Great neighborhood find. Varied menu. The grilled ahi Tuna in the salad was prepared perfectly. Green beans were crispy. Great service.
The food looked so good. But had no flavor at all. The ravioli had no sauce. The calzone was big and looked delicious, had no Italian spice or tomato for flavor. Could have used some fresh tomato, red pepper, olives, capers. Anything for flavor.
We had the orange creme brulee, which desperately needed some vanilla or orange flavor. The fruit on top was very fresh.
We had a slightly late lunch (1:15pm) so it wasn't crowded and therefore quiet. I don't know what it's like when the dining room is full, but probably louder than when we were there.
I had the Salad Nicoise which was excellent! I'm glad I asked for the sherry vinaigrette on the side. It's delicious but a bit strong, so I used it sparingly and took the extra home.
Our waiter was attentive and helpful. I really like the space they've created since they expanded into the former Ace Hardware location which was next door to them. A very nice ambiance.
I had a great noontime lunch experience at Mike's Palo Alto. The service was courteous and prompt, and the menu included many attractive salads, sandwiches and entrees. In our party of three, we tried three different salads and thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Although the restaurant was nearly full, the noise level was low, making it easy for conversations. I love the bright and airy new space that was created for a full bar and ample restaurant seating. I definitely recommend Mike's Palo Alto!
The new Mike’s is terrific! The food is outstanding, with something for everybody. The tables are spaced enough for quiet conversation, and there’s ample parking (a big deal on the Peninsula). The wait staff was friendly and attentive.
Great place for Friday dinner - had wonderful halibut, perfectly prepared. Great wait staff - friendly, efficient. Always nice to see Mike & his enthusiastic greeting.
Love the new look (remodel) of this place. Very friendly staff, great food and excellent service. So awesome - this place is walking distance for us!
I went to the old Mike's Cafe for many years, having grown up around the corner, and was excited to see the new remodel and try the new menu. But one dish after another was disappointing-- we sent back 2 entrees, and would have sent back more except that we felt badly. The pastas were bland and boring (the "pesto" was green but had no other resemblance to pesto), the soup was very watered down and almost flavorless, and the burrata came on fishy chunks of inedible pickled eggplants.... it was truly bad. I really hope they can fix their menu, because it looks great inside and has been a neighborhood staple for so long!
Excellent food! Nice atmosphere. You can actually have a conversation. Tables have some room between them. Just as great as the old Mike's Cafe but with an Italian menu. We loved it and we will return.
So glad that Mike's is back. Lovely to have a place where we can hear each other.
Pleasure to go to a vibrant local and locally owned resturant.
It is a very nice neighborhood restaurant, food is normal, place is pleasant. The price is kind of expensive for a normal family dinner out though.
Had an omlette. It was over cooked/crusty. Did not have a gluten-free bread option and did not offer anything in its place (such as extra fruit or sliced tomatoes, etc.).
Mike’s is a great neighborhood restaurant and the relatively new expansion and remodel makes it even better. Menu is great; food tasty and hot. BUT THE BREAD IS A DISGRACE. POOR QUALITY,TASTES STALE EVENTHOUGH IT IS NOT. AN EMBARRASSMENT TO THE FACILITY
We have now made Mike’s our “go to” place for birthday celebrations with friends - great food, great service, nice wines at decent prices and a fun ambiance. Love the remodel.
Upon arriving parking lot was almost full, we got the last spot. Inside, the very large restaurant was half empty at 6PM on a mid week night. Service was prompt and friendly. We ordered split salads and it was easily enough. The eggplant parmesan was OK as was the pasta w/meatballs. Both were too bland and needed more flavor, garlic perhaps. Noise level was high but tolerable, I was comfortable with the informal ambiance although tables were a bit too close, the back of my chair was almost up against the occupied chair behind me.
Midtown needed some energy and the new improved Mike's is just the thing. Twice I have been there for lunch and have had the tuna/avocado salad - ample portions and a wonderful lemony dressing.
New remodel has cosy casual ambience with a wide range of choices on the menu. Excellent and friendly service. Meals were delicious and a good wine list. Also reasonably priced especially for Palo Alto! Thanks for letting us linger at the table after our meal without feeling rushed towards closing time.
my lunch was quite delicious, although my coworker was somewhat disappointed... in general it was nice.
Before it’s remodeling mikes was our family’s favorite place to eat dinner. It was very affordable..
After the remodel I guess they have had to hike up the prices. Paying almost $30 for pasta with a small piece of salmon goes way beyond affordability for a casual family dinner
Don’t get me wrong .. this is a great place, wonderful food, good service .. but spending well over $100 for a week day casual dinner of four is way too much
Excellent minestrone! Service was quick, efficient yet relaxed. Very enjoyable
We were looking forward to trying the new and "improved " Mike's...but were disappointed and underwhelmed. The space looks great but it ended there for us.
The food was not that tasty and part of our meal was almost cold. Even had to request butter for our biscuits as none was offered.
Wonderful place to have a delicious dinner before a theatre performance. Our group is thoroughly enjoying your beautiful new decor and professional servers.
We had dinner there Saturday night. It was poor. The spaghetti was cooked to soft. The brussels sprout where undercooked for the second time. The lasagna was really heavy and greasy. Food that evening for 6 people was poor. However, I have been very satisfied in the past and maybe that evening the main cook was not there.
Mike's: What can one say? It's been consistently great for years; and so it continues in the "new" location!!!!!!
I love this new version of Mike's Cafe. The dinner menu is expanded and my favorite it the tuna crudo, beet salad and any of the amazing pizzas. Pastas are still wonderful and specials are awesome. My friend had fresh halibut recommended by the waiter and it was melt in your mouth awesome. Tiramisu is great, if you are a dessert person. It's easy to park, wonderful ambiance, and great people.
Enjoyed the meal!!
A pleasant place for lunch. Very good food and a great selection of food. A bit more noisy than I would choose.
The newly renovated space is really lovely. There were 4 of us for dinner. My tomato burrata salad had tomatoes so over ripe that they disintegrated on the plate into a red watery soup that could not be eaten with a fork. Three of my four fellow diners ordered lamb chops - cooked MEDIUM. We waited 40 minutes and got 3 raw lamb chops that had to be sent back ....another 20 minutes and they came back in stages so we didn't really eat together but in stages. MEDIUM does not mean blue- this is not France. There were 3 full cooks and yet the service was very slow even though the restaurant was only 1/2 full. Some definite kinks and we were also surprised that after such bad service there were no apologies from management. WE were lucky to get any food at all evidently. Obviously this place needs someone who knows how to run a restaurant. I would like to support local but can't go through the frustration again. Let's hope it improves!
Everything was perfect, thank you. I wrote a lengthy Yelp review that you are welcome to view.
Easily one of the best breakfasts we ever had, not just in Bay Area but in the US. The eggs and sausage were outstanding, so was the Spinach and Chicken Frittata. The waffles were good too. Service was attentive. It was surprisingly empty at 1130am on a Sat - maybe not too many people knew they reopened.
Price-wise is ok. I don't think they are overpriced because the pricing is similar to everywhere in the area. The quality of the food more than justifies the price.
Finally a Midtown restaurant that is pleasing to look at and dine in. Modern-rustic remodel on par with more urban places is a great addition to this part of Palo Alto. We no longer have to 'trek' to Cal Avenue for a bit of ambiance and energy with dinner. Just hope they can stay open later Thur-Saturday nights.
Service was excellent
Pizza was fantastic
Baked rigatoni is not recommended
We were seated at a quiet table. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The other wait staff were punctual in filling water glasses and removing plates when we were finished. Delicious cocktails and dessert rounded out our seafood dinners.
So glad you're open again. We missed you! Keep up the good work.
As usual a great place for dinner with friends.
