Pretty good ambience and great food. Access to restaurant could have been better.
A wonderful "original"environment" with an ambiance that Is both interesting and
unique compared to what we usually experience in restaurants.
The service was excellent. Many salad and pizza options with the presentation
being very appealing.
In the middle of a yucky alley is this little slice of Rome. Delicious, fresh and innovate food
Had a bite to eat before Hamilton. Mozzarella was delicious!
The food is wonderful but the service is not so wonderful. The waiter would ask us a question, one of us would answer and he would walk away before anyone could answer. He forgot our 2nd glasses of wines and had to be asked for water. He was not in tune with our table at all. The restaurant is charming but the area it is in IT NOT SAFE! It is gross. The chairs are seriously the worst chairs a restaurant could have. I guess the tech people love to be uncomfortable ! The restaurant is expensive for what it is, a sandwich and pizza place! It is close to the theatre so for that reason I suspect we will drop in again.
We loved this place!
Our waiter was exceptional... patient while we asked many questions, friendly, efficient and professional. The food was great... shared among 4 the asparagus and pea, and kale salads, as well as 2 different pinserie... all savory and delicious. We decided that we’d definitely return again in the future!
Always a great experience. Great food, great service.
We enjoyed the food and sergice very much. We plan on eating there again when we come to the plays in the city. Our only draw back was the surrounding street people. I would never come to the restuarant by myself.
Excellent restaurant! Would go and have Pinsa again. So good.
Outstanding waiter. Very authentic Italian food and the waiter helped us through the menu tremendously. Will return next time in downtown sf.
We had the cheese board and shared a pinsa. The food was awesome. The ambiance was beautiful. Service was good, but we seemed to have 4 different waiters. Location is OK - the street outside seemed to be a bit sketchy, but the festoons that were added to the alley made the street less threatening than it did when first arrived at dusk.
What a gem! Felt like we were in Rome! The food was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing. We are looking forward to another visit to this restaurant when we are in San Francisco!
Small but fun restaurant. They try to make tho most of their space which means you are very close to the tables around you. Only reason didn't give 5 stars is that there is no accommodation for any variation to the pinsa meals. We had asked to leave an ingredient off one of them, and it was not an option ("we can't change - they come the way it is listed"). No substitutions allowed either.
Wonderful! Wonderful! What a great find in SF!
What a GEM in the heart of the City, tucked away and hidden. Venue is small but so authentic, full of rustic charm and serves the best PINSA ever! Must try.
The place has a nice, quirky vibe. The food is really great, and they are willing to modify the toppings on the pinsas to accommodate any special requirements. The only downside (for me) was that the place was a bit on the noisy side. We went for a work lunch. We had reserved a table for 4 but had failed to request a separate table, so ended up sharing a larger table for 8-10 people. It was fine, but slightly cramped, and made conversation slightly tricky. I'd definitely return, but would reserve the table with special request.
We had some high expectations after our son raved about the dinner he had in Portland. The pinsa dough was good although not as light as I expected. I had the lardo pinsa and I thought that it was quite tasteless. My wife's salmon pinsa was a little more tasty, but nothing to rave about.
Great small neighborhood place, feels like you are in Italy. Food and service are superb. Location is a bit sketchy, but similar to many part of SF with the rising homeless population.
This place was hard to find, and we were nervous about the neighborhood as we walked there from the Orpheum Theatre. BUT-- it was sooo worth it! The pinsas are spectacular! I'm still dreaming about the chewy, crunchy, but light crust. And the toppings are so interesting and delicious!!
We also had an arugula salad that was perfectly dressed and an order of carpaccio. The carpaccio was cured a bit, and had an arugula salad on top. So good!!
Perfect pre-show dining. Best pizza in SF - light, crispy crust easier to digest than traditional pizza crust.
Delicious as usual! Great spot in a seedy alley to get a bite before a show
Like being in Italy. I loved it. The ingredients are the best. The end result is perfection.
Food was good and what we mostly expected. However, the restaurant is noisy and combined with the street traffic, conversation was difficult. Be aware that the restaurant is in an area where navigating through the homeless and streets encampments is necessary. But that is not a unique issue for this restaurant in this area of San Francisco. Nonetheless, it is a fine place to have a meal prior to a show at the theaters around Market St. Make a reservation for sure if you are pressed for time.
Excellent food and service. A gold nugget in the area.
This was our second time going before seeing a show at the GG Theatre. So close to the theatre, love the wonderful Italian ambiance and outstanding service...we shared 2 pinsas and the beet salad for 3 of us and it was perfect. Service was amazing, from the hostess, to our servers and fellow servers. Clean bathroom with fun little relics from an old dentist office (??). This will be our GO TO restaurant when we go see a show.
A very fun, authentic neighborhood restaurant with great food! Noisy and crowded if you like that type of atmosphere! A 5 minute walk to Golden Gate Theatre!
I miss live this.
This is the 4th time we have eaten at Montesacro and it was great again. This is our go to pre-theater dinner establishment. Great wine suggestions, appetizers were delicious (Misto meat and cheese plate, roasted cauliflower, roasted ham) and pinsas. Atmosphere is energetic and at times VERY loud but that is always part of eating here. The area surrounding the restaurant is "sketchy" but always worth it. See you next time!
But it is in a bad neighborhood...….Mayor needs to clean up the area, homeless up and down the street....I would not go there at night!
Gem hidden in a small alley by 6th street, super tasty, friendly staff, good drinks! Awesome, seriously
Birthday lunch before matinee at Golden Gate Theater. Great service. Great and unique food and easy walk to thester. Loved it.
First time there. Seated promptly. Waiter recommended excellent dishes. Very fresh ingredients. Fun and lively ambience. Delicious dessert with a pistachio cream filling. Would definitely come back. Perfect for a pre-theater dinner.
Really good, authentic style Italian. Bring an Italian speaker to translate the menu! (The staff was great, they explained it all with no problems) While the restaurant was great, just do not go southwest along Stevenson st (the heroin addicts are everywhere).
Truly delicious! I’ll be back!
This restaurant is a home run.
I take all my friends there!
Our service was pretty bad once it got busy but the food is great.
Food was great!! Monty, our waiter, made great starter recommendations. (Focaccia & Grilled Veggies) We were visiting our daughter who had previously enjoyed a meal here with friends and wanted us to experience this gem. Two appetizers, carpaccio, 3 pizzas and a bottle of wine - we ate and ate and ate!! Everything was delicious!!!!
Good food casual place.
Really loved this place it has a great energy about it!
Great restaurant!! Perfect meal before seeing a play
