Exceptional service. Our party was late due to crazy Friday night traffic. Everyone from the front desk to our server were patient and understanding, making what was stressful, less so. Food and drinks were delicious. Despite being late for our reservation they worked to get us out in time to make our theater start. Will come back!
I was there with 7 friends for a pre show dinner. The pinsas were Delicious and unique, and the mixed charcuterie board was also yummy. The spicy chocolate mousse and coffee was very satisfying and tasty,The service was great . However the noise level was extremely high and almost unbearable, thus making conversations impossible . Because we spent more energy talking loudly to overcome the noise , it was hard to enjoy our food in a relaxed setting. BTW, the metal chairs were very uncomfortable. I’m giving it 4 stars because the food was excellent,
Interesting Italian restaurant that features Roman pinsa (pizza) with funky decor. Great for before or after Golden Gate Theater.
Ambiance brings one back to an authentic restaurant in Italy. Food was excellent. Glad they used "organic" and alternate ingredients. There was a "home-baked" feel. By the time we left, Montescaro was overflowing with guests.
This place makes the best pizza (pinsa) in the Bay Area. The price is reasonable for the quality of the food. As an Italian I enjoyed this pizza a lot and will go back more frequently. This place gives you an idea of what the real flavors of Italy are when it comes to pizza and I have to admit that this place does a pretty good job. I highly recommended it.
Montesacro is a delicious restaurant with a funky vibe. It is close to the theater so if very convenient for a night out in San Francisco.
Our go to place when we go to the Golden Gate! Food never disappoints!
We love this place! We go here for lunch before the theater as it's within walking distance. This is not a "pizza place," it's a Pinsaria, which means it's healthier and more flavorful than pizza. Everything is fresh, affordable, and the service is great. I highly recommend!
We had reservations..25 minutes late seating us, others were offered drink service ...we were not . There were 3 parties waiting with us to be seated. Poor management of the floor and reservations.
Menu very challanging to understand...way to eclectic on the pizzas. I am a foodie, live in Sonoma county, own a winery, and travel the world do I am not naive to ingredients. This place seems to want to impress for all the wrong reasons. It was not comfortable and did not feel good. My pizza ( call it want you want..its a pizza) was terrible and tasteless. Waaaay to trendy with no attention to serving their customer ( not literally serving but simply a good experience).
I guess when you are this busy the business and the money is coming in so the attitude is that they do ot have to care for their patrons
We went to celebrate my birthday. We had tickets to Hamilton and the restaurant was near by. I would recommend this cute, tasty place to anyone! Be seen with Monte- he makes the experience all the better! The espresso was amazing. Presented really pretty and cute!
Limited menu but everything done well
I went to here with some friends before seeing a show at the Orpheum. It was the perfect start to a super fun night. This place is small but very cute. I would definitely recommend making a reservation if you know you’re going to eat here because it filled up fast not long after we arrived. The food was delicious and the service was super friendly and helpful! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a cool spot to eat in the city.
Told 2 servers that the only toilet in the restaurant would NOT flush! Our server said that they are very busy during the lunch rush and would get to it when someone was available. An hour and a half passed and it still was not fixed. This is an unacceptable issue no matter how busy the restaurant is!!
We loved the pinsa and the drink selection. The service was distracted and inattentive, though. I'm going to assume it was a fluke - we'll be back to try more of the pinsas and cheeses.
This was our second visit and the food was just as delicious as before. The service is professional and friendly. We brought out-of-town guests on both occasions and they loved this restaurant. We hope to become regulars here!
small selection of carefully curated food that shows mastery
Fun restaurant. Great service and Food selection. Think outside the box...bring a group of friends and try everything!
We had an excellent time and the food was delicious! Our server was very sweet and everyone was nice to our kids. They even had the same snap on high chair that we have at home so my very little one was comfortable. It was refreshing to be warmly welcomed with my kiddos at a nice restaurant. Thank you!
Fun Italian food. Caprese salad made exceptional by the high quality mozzarella. Their version of pizza, called pinsa, was delicious . Waiter fun and explained everything. Price reasonable for the city.
Reasonably varied menu, every item we tasted was savory and well-prepared, esp. sardine antipasto and divine smoked wild salmon piseta. Way too limited and overpriced selection of wines by the glass, underwhelming “Happy Hour” offerings.
IMO, the flea market decor here seemed more rundown than rustic, though hats off to the considerable effort it must have taken to arrange the overabundance of ... stuff.
You feel transported to Rome - amazing place to eat before you go to concert halls or musicals.
The location is hard to find and in a bit of a creepy spot but the food makes it all up for you.
I've been to Montesacro several times, with a group and with a friend, and each visit I am impressed with the service and food. It's like a mini-trip to Rome without the airfare! Very interesting combinations and not your traditional american pizza, it's quite a nice find tucked in the Tenderloin.
Lunch is not super crowded and the volume of noise is slightly better that time of day, but either way, you will enjoy it. Ciao!
Very cozy place in a dark side street. Food was excellent.
We've been here 1 other time, and dinner didn't disappoint. Pizza was delicious, crust was light crisp, slightly chewy, really good and the toppings were perfect. I don't remember the name of it but was the carbonara pizza. We also had a cheese appetizer and the grilled eggplant which were both delicious. I highly recommend this tiny place before a show. The only down side is the location, it's in an alley which is very sketchy and seedy.
What a find! Great food and wine selections service was good. We definitely will return to this restaurant. It is now one of our favorite places in San Francisco.
Food and atmosphere are great at this small and busy restaurant. The service is nice but can be slow.
Montesacro features a most unusual pizza-like substance called “pinsa”. It’s wonderful! Made from rice, soy, and wheat flours imported from Italy, it is the best pizza-like crust I’ve ever eaten. The restaurant offers a variety of topping selections. The cheeses and crisped bacon and mushrooms were exquisite.
The waitstaff all seem to be from Italy. Eating at Montesacro felt as if we were in Rome. Can’t wait to go back!
Pizza? A slight variation. Very Italian/Roman ingredients. Very good crust. We will return.
Excellent food, fun atmosphere, Italian servers. Wish there were more salad options. Interesting wine list with some more obscure regional selections, though overall a bit too pricy for the casualness of the place. Crummy alley location, although it's a great option for a meal in an area otherwise bereft of good options.
4 adults. We spent $144 on 4 personal pizzas, 4 slices of prosciutto to share and the equivalent of maybe 2 heirloom tomatoes in a vinaigrette dressing to share, 2 beers. The ambiance is really cool. The service was really good. It was close to the theater. Just not enough food for the cost. For me, it's all about value of food.
The pinsas were delicious!
We love this gem of a restaurant. The place is full of fun decorations everywhere. Even the bathroom and I won't spoil that for you. You have to see it. Our waiter was the best and the food outstanding. They were very accommodating as I was cold so they shut the front door. The menu has something for everyone. We wish we lived closer as we could frequent this gem more often. If you live in SF or in the Bay Area you have to try Montesacro SF.
I really enjoyed the food! We got the broccolini, sausage, and burrata pinsa, the chef’s choice appretizer (I asked for no mortadella), a pistachio dessert pinsa and an espresso. It was all SO good! The dessert pinsa was my absolute favorite. So, so good! The appetizer was wonderful and reminded me of my trip to Rome where I had salumi, cheese and honey. Cheese and honey? Sounds disgusting, but ohh my! It’s so good!
The service was so-so. The group of women next to us was doted upon and given great service; we were ignored at times or not brought our beverage refills, dessert menu, etc. we were seated at a table for two.
Fantastic experience. The food and service were incomparable. The decor is cool retro and even a little surreal (bathroom). I would advise Lyft and not parking or touring in the area.
Food was delicious. Will definitely go back. Our waiter was helpful and friendlym
Great place for after show. Pinsas (pizza) are creative and delicious. Service is great; servers are friendly and enthusiastic about their food. Area is a little sketchy but definitely worth the trip.
Great Italian atmosphere. Food seemed very authentic - delicious!
Fresh and fluffy dough makes for something wonderful called a pinsa. Lucky to have found this gem.
Great food. Second time we’ve been here. We live in San Jose and it’s conveniently close to theaters. Service is quick so we can make it in time to the theater and enjoy a wonderful dinner.
Great neighborhood authentic Italian specialty restaurant. Food and service was excellent.
