Morgan's Tavern - Middlebury Inn
The steak au poivre was outstanding and worth every penny of its $27 price. The burger was great also, and the desserts were delicious with generous portions. The raspberry sorbet was just right--lots of berry flavor and not too sweet. There's no physical barrier between the tavern and the inn lobby, so if a lot of people are staying at the inn or there's a private party like a wedding waiting for its private room, it can be a little noisy. There was only one server on a Saturday evening, so things happened a little slowly, but she stayed composed, efficient, and friendly, and did a great job (the bartender, I think, helped out when she could). We love coming here, and the little glitches don't add up to much. It's always well worth it.
Great service, great food, great atmosphere, great local beers
This is a great place for a romantic dinner. It's a beautiful place, the waitstaff is superb, and the food is delicious.
We had a fun time traveling over from Ti on a snowy January night. It was delightful to meet Diana Cook, daughter of our good friend and dentist, Dr. Dean Cook. Morgan's Tavern is charming although the bar could be more imposing. All three of us were happy with our menu choices and look forward to a return sometime.
The salad was decent but the main dishes were just average. Lobster salad was a disappointing presentation and fish was so so. The best think I could say about the restaurant is that the prices were very reasonable!
My meal was one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Seared scallops with fingerling potatoes, brussels sprouts, crispy bacon lardons, and maple brown butter. The restaurant shares a room with the bar. The place got pretty loud with people enjoying drinks and a large family group that just checked in at a large table for dinner. I would put up with the noise any time for a meal like that. I’m a local and the meal was unexpectedly fabulous.
Food was excellent and we sat on the porch - it was a lovely evening. Service was a tad slow, we were not in a hurry, but things did not come out as timely as we would have liked them to.
The farm to table dinner choice was delicious and a bargain.
We're from Pennsylvania and always invite our friends to the Middlebury Inn when we visit. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a great place for conversation. The omelette with cheddar cheese and avocado toast were delicious--and the bacon crisp, as we had requested. We enjoyed a late morning brunch and the server was terrific. She was attentive and didn't rush us.
Pleasant, comfortable, convenient location, ample parking, and good food
Made reservations for an early Mother’s Day breakfast with family, I was seated after finding waitstaff, but there was very little food left in the buffet ( not enough for one person much less four) and when my family arrived they were told that the restaurant was closed. I had to go out to lobby to find them. In short, they should not have accepted the reservation knowing that it was the same time that they closed. The staff was not accommodating. I offered to pay for the coffee I had while waiting for family to arrive but the waitstaff disappeared - very very disappointing experience! I have eaten there before with much better luck, but absolutely the last time I will take family to Morgan’s.
I think the resto is best for a simple lunch (burger and fries); the entrees are not carefully prepared, and are too pricey for what you get.
Awesome experience. Love the venue and the food was both delicious and well presented. We will be returning.
Food was excellent as was the service. The Middlebury Inn is a charming old inn. Well worth a trip there
Our meal was quite good despite the soup coming out cold. Sadly the service was not good. Our server came up our table, no introduction, no welcome, just "do you know what you want?" Not knowing if she was asking about cocktails or dinner when asked, she replied "both". Ugh. That didn't start the evening off very well. And any time we needed her I had to walk to the bar to make my request for reheating my soup, another cocktail, the check. She never came back to check on us. A nice restaurant should have servers that know how to be a good server.
Was almost empty when we arrived but the service was exceedingly slow. Would not go back.
Very good food. Excellent range to the menu. Pleasant ambiance. Warm feel.
Parents weekend at Middlebury so enjoyed a wonderful dinner with our daughter, her roommate and parents. Food was delicious, not noisy, lovely atmosphere - would recommend to friends and dine here again!
Staff tried but quality and quantity of food did not match the price. Dinner arrived cold and boys left hungry. Given the abundance of fresh produce and local dairy, food should have been better. We were very dissapointed with our Middlebury parents weekend meal.
Great service. Sue was fantastic as our server and the food was well prepared and presented.
Ate outside on the porch and it was great ... except for the flies that seemed to be everywhere in Vermont. Food was great and the while the service was a little slow, it was fine for a nice relaxed dinner.
We had dinner at Morgan's Tavern and the entire meal was excellent. Meat was cooked the way we asked for it. Wonderful flavor. Breakfast the next morning was also superb. No complaints about that meal either.
Came expecting good things since Middlebury inn is fairly well known however this was not the case. Service was super slow on a Saturday night and the sides were subpar and luke warm. I ordered the pork chop which was mediocre for the cost. Corn chowder was actually delicious, wish I had ordered it as my main meal. I ordered a martini which came out un-drinkable. Overall a disappointing experience.
Everything very pleasant but could be a lot better.
Name is a misnomer, it is a dining area in an old but attractive inn, not really a tavern.
Food was average, soup and burgers well presented but not particularly tasty. Salads were plentiful and fresh however.
Very good service from our waitress Becky who comped us an after dinner tea which was served like warm.
Food was delicious. Service slow and it was empty, so not sure why. Feels a little open - thought it would have a more "cozy" feel. Too bright lighting for dinner.
Limited menu that may be trying too hard on some fronts. Keep it simple and do it really well.
