Great service ! Great food! Great atmosphere!
Beautiful restaurant— unfortunately our waiter provided rushed service and seemed ready to leave. I’ve never had a waiter deliver, process the bill and leave the restaurant while we still had a bottle of wine and dessert on the table. We only still tipped 20% in hopes that the wonderful water and bus staff wouldn’t be shorted.
Great locally sourced options with surprising chef's specials. Very attentive service as well.
Brunch was fantastic! No issues getting a table at all. Good service and great menu with many options (i.e., healthier ingredients, seasonal specials). Love the holiday and interior decorations!
Great food. Great service. But horribly placed front door for several of the tables--at least during cold weather. And, the otherwise extremely attentive wait staff pretended not to notice the blasts of cold air. At one point, the wind coming through the opening front door literally blew my hair into the food on my fork as I tried to take a bite, so that afterwards I had to carefully time my bites by watching through the window to make sure that no one was walking in before I could risk it! It is clear that the restaurant knows this is a problem, but as if deciding to arm us with a knife when we're heading into a gunfight, they have one thin blanket at a table for 5. Since cold, windy weather and Chicago are no strangers, this restaurant seriously needs to install a structural wind break or front doors designed to keep the wind outside like most restaurants with similar challenges invest in. If they do not, we'd likely eat there again to get another shot at the seriously delicious brussles sprouts, but only if we can request a table well out of reach of the wind gusts from new arrivals--that is, if anywhere is safe.
Such good vibes and even better food. The lamb burger and salmon dishes are not to be missed. I was also impressed by the seasonal menu, which had several creative Fall options. Highly recommend!
We were there at brunch on a busy Sunday. The food was very good, though the eggs in the Eggs Benedict were slightly more runny than ideal.
The drawback was the service. Our server was very nice but she seemed to be run off her feet, trying to keep up with all her tables. The food took almost an hour to come after we placed our order. That is really too long. The restaurant may benefit from increasing staffing levels on busy weekends.
We shared the lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes and the eggs Benedict- both were delicious. Would highly recommend Next of Kin for brunch.
Very nice waiters, hosts and bartender. This restaurant is beautiful and the food is consistent and delicious. Portions are perfect and wine list is very good. Next of Kin has become one of our top go-to date night places, as well as when our son dines with us. ;)
The food was quite salty and the service was also rather slow.
Brunch was delicious, but service a little spotty. Failure to bring coffee, refill water, just the basics. New menu items are great.
Solid as always.
Great meal. Amazing menu and creativity. Note, took 20 mins. to get a server and they need to dim the lights a bit at night but aside from that amazing meal and cocktails.
We went to Next of Kin for brunch and it did not disappoint. The lemon ricotta pancakes and apple french toast with a side of bacon were delicious; the coffee was hot and good. Our server was willing to give us her honest recommendations. The noise level is a little high but that's because it was crowded and they had music playing. Overall, I highly recommend Next of Kin. Can't wait to visit for dinner!
Another fantastic meal at Next of Kin. The service ( meagan) was absolutely phenomenal! The salmon dish was so flavorful and the filet was perfectly prepared. Can’t wait to go back!!
The ambience was great with lots of natural light even though it was cloudy outside. Food took a while to come out especially since the restaurant was not that full. One of the two dishes was salad too. Another reason why I’m not giving a five star is because we were seated next to a couple that talked non-stop. We could hear everything they were saying. We got no privacy. Not sure why we got seated next to each other when the restaurant was only about 20-30% full.
I chose salmon on a quinoa base and it was delicious. The ambiance is always pleasant, especially when one sits near the picture windows and can enjoy a view of downtown Evanston on an autumn evening. The wait staff is attentive without being hovering. The seasonal desserts (crispy apple wrap and pumpkin mousse cake) were perfect. I miei complimenti alla cucina!
A bit disappointing. Service was slow, seemed under staffed and overwhelmed even though the place was virtually empty. Small plate starters were delicious, but entrees below par. Our friends ordered the white fish which was so terribly fishy they had to send it back, but restaurant cheerfully swapped out their orders. Salmon was good but slightly under-cooked. Fettucine was overwhelmed by cheese sauce which in turn was heavily spiced and overwhelmed cheese flavors. Just average all around.
Gorgeous space and great service. Only reason they’re not getting 5 stars is my poached egg and my husband’s fried egg didn’t have runny yolks.
We were only in town for the weekend but were surprised with a truly fantastic meal. Every bite was delicious, from the burrata toast to the double chocolate eclair. Great ambiance, and the wait staff was helpful and nice. Will definitely come back the next time I’m in Evanston!
My vegetarian daughter and I were thrilled with your veggie options. We can't wait to return.
Overall great experience and we will be back. Only one element prevented an all around 5 and that was the mushroom linguini which was way too much cream topped by a heavy dose of cheese. A lighter touch would have yielded a much better and more refined dish.
Delicious food. Excellent service with careful attention to dietary restrictions. Noisy, but it was Saturday night.
Had a reservation and was seated at table in bar. Did not realize there was an entire restaurant on other side. Certainly would have rather been seated there as bar was very noisy and didn't need TV in my face!
The food was a bit bland. The salmon was fishy. I also thought it was a bit expensive for the quality.
So good, and so much better than wherewithall on Elston!
We had a great time for a family birthday. The restaurant is comfortably stylish with a good menu and we had great service. Surprisingly, the food didn’t quite measure up to the rest of our experience. It was interesting and looked good on the plate, but overall was a little bland. My salmon dish was over cooked and without much flavor, despite the interesting accompaniments, and onion rings and fried chicken were very greasy and not enjoyable. That said, the ambience and service made up for it but I’m not in a hurry to go back, as it was quite expensive by the time we added an appetizer, drinks and dessert.
The food was overall good but a little bland. I think a little seasoning would be helpful.
Had sunday brunch. Tomato test was a good appetizer. Two at the table had the avocado toast which was ok. Bin Jinping lin was godd very spicey would have made a better appetizer
Disappointed in the new brunch menu. Why would you get rid of classic dishes like eggs benedict (kale florentine)?
Kwhatevs, We apologize for any confusion but we do indeed have a benedict on the brunch menu. It's called brunch benedict: poached hen eggs, canadian bacon, spinach, house-made hollandaise. Hope you return and try it - it's really delicious! Thanks! Next of Kin
Food terrific!!whitefish and omelette
Just a little heavy for us oldsters. Service, choices, ambiance all good. Cauliflower polenta pretty amazing. Sweet outdoor seating
Outside dining in a nice urban setting. Food is incredible. This is the same restaurant as Kinship. They just changed the name.
My husband and I came here for his birthday. The food was outstanding and so were the cocktails. We sat inside at 6:30pm depending on where you sit, the sun can be directly in your face through the windows. The services was good but a little slow.
We loved the restaurant atmosphere, but service was very slow (time to order drinks once seated, time to order food after ordering drinks, time to be served food...) and the food was good, fresh and fairly inventive but my salmon was overcooked and my guests’ mushroom pasta dish was too big and bland.
Excellent server. Food was very good. Perfect night to dine on the patio.
The honey butter fries are to die for! I definitely want to go back to try the brunch menu.
The honey fries are still my all-time favorites. Loved sitting outside on the patio, too.
Another absolutely fantastic meal at Next of Kin. Best dining experience in Evanston by far
Delicious food, warm ambiance and great service. Not one bad thing to say! A hidden gem in a corporate building!
