The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Fantastic cosmopolitan! Good service and ambiance,
We were a table of 6 and there was one other table sat (maybe 6/7 people) in the whole restaurant. It took about 35 minutes to get out food, and when it did come out it was one plate at a time. My daughters plate came out a full 10 minutes after the first plate was set on the table. Drinks took at least 10 minutes to get once ordered. The food was marginal. Nothing great, nothing horrible. It would have been acceptable if the service was better.
It is advertised as a French bistro. The menu contained nothing that would indicated a French restaurant. It was a generic menu with tacos. Some things on the menu were not available.
We came for a super late night meal and they were more than accommodating. The food was incredible and the perfect end to our weekend.
Strange menu - Mexican "pop up" menu and another section of the menu included burgers, ribs, etc, and random side dishes. Food took forever even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. Burger arrived burned on one side and had to be sent back. They ran out of a cocktail ingredient and served a crappy replacement without telling us - we sent those back too. After all these issues they didn't offer any discount on the bill. 2 of the 4 in our group had stomach aches after eating that food. Worst experience ever in SF. Don't go here!
The menu was quite limited, but still good for after the theater. We had a couple of orders of port ribs, which were very meaty, tasty and fall off the bone tender. Brusselo\ sprouts were yummy too.
Terrible experience. It took 25 min to get water to our table. 45 min for our first drink of bottomless mimosas. All of our food came out late and at once! Oysters, pop tart, and eggs Benedict all came out at once. Would not recommend this place even with the bottomless brunch drinks
I love Oola, my friends and I have done multiple birthdays there. The bottomless mimosas at 15.00 per person are a huge hit, and they are not stingy with the pour. I think the food menus is good but they used to have a pork belly dish that I LOVED. It was not on the menu this time, the french toast was more then enough to keep me happy :)
Very large and delicious portions. Service was great, but the restaurant was fairly empty.
We took our family to brunch at Oola. What an embarrassment. The service was non existent and there were just 3 tables of customers. The food (except for he burger) was terrible. Poached eggs were hard as a rock. They came back raw. They didn’t offer to take it off the check, just shrugged at us. The salad greens were old and slimy. The Croque Madame was served on a cutting board, not on a plate. Unappetizing to eat a fried egg on wood. They must have an amateur in the kitchen who can’t even prepare a poached egg for brunch? We have dined here at least 10 times, for brunch, lunch and dinner. This was the by far the worst meal we had while in San Francisco.
Make no mistake: Oola is a bar that serves food, not a restaurant with a bar. The menu is small - only six main courses plus the house ribs. We ate there on a Saturday night, so it was quiet - no after-work crowd. Somewhat shockingly, the kitchen was "out" of the one pasta dish on the menu. How does a restaurant run out of a pasta dish and have no substitute, even on a slow night?? The waiter at least could have offered us a free drink or dessert to compensate, which is fairly typical when the restaurant cannot provide your choice. He did not. The food we did have was nicely prepared and tasty though the portions were somewhat smaller than we would expect for the price. While the service was attentive, perhaps because there were few diners at our early sitting, the waiter passed our table several times after we had finished our first course without picking up the empty plates. They were still sitting there when he brought the main course, so we had to push them aside. This is not acceptable. The glass of wine was generous and fairly priced but the specialty cocktail was not - perhaps an ounce including liquor and mixer.
The menu is somewhat limited - mostly small bites only a few entrees. However, the small plates were very good and it was fun to share several with our party. Service was very good and a small ordering mis-communication was handled quickly and professionally.
Wait time once we arrived was completely unacceptable. Reservation for 12:30, didn't get sat until 1:10. Poor communication and management at the restaurant from the host to the server. I have been to Oola dozens of times and this was by far the worst experience I've had there to date.
Good food, quiet enough to talk & great service, glad they had an impossible burger.
We really enjoyed the food, especially Grilled Octopus, Baby back Ribs and Beet Melon Salad were great!
Good spot for relaxed dinner w/ a friend or date. Beat watermelon salad was delicious. Chicken and salmon well-prepared. Service was friendly, and attentive, but not intrusive. Atmosphere is cozy yet "energetic" i.e. it wasn't quiet, but no so loud we couldn't have a conversation.
Food is not great. Service is ok. Ambience is great. It’s quiet.
We went here for Sunday brunch - the restaurant was empty when we arrived for our 10:30 reservation. Ambiance is a little dark but I liked it. Restrooms were clean and well cared for.
The bottomless mimosas are by far the best deal. For $15 bucks you get your choice of fresh squeezed juice and an individual carafe.
Food - meh. We ordered a roasted tomato benedict and fines herb and goat cheese omelette. We also ordered a side of fries bases on the servers notice that the Benedict did not come with a side.
The benedict did come with potatoes, so we were a little disappointed when we realized we didn’t really need the fries. Also, the omelette was more mushroom than cheese, in fact, there wasn’t much goat cheese at all.
Overall, service was good and food was a bit disappointing.
Without a doubt, I ate the worst eggs Benedict ever at Oola. The problem is they serve it in a BOWL, which leads to the dish being constantly soaked in egg yolk (as opposed to a flat plate, where one can push aside the egg). This completely ruined the dish for me.
Service is also very slow. There is only one waiter and one bartender who were overwhelmed. I’m glad I didn’t order the bottomless drinks, because I doubt I would have ever gotten a single refill. I’m also guessing there’s only one chef. Another party was seated seconds before us and got their food and paid their check before we even got our food.
Overall, this is a slam dunk 1-Star place and I wouldn’t recommend it at all.
The service was a bit slow, but polite. The food and ambiance was good. The music was a bit loud, but we got a table in the back and we could easily carry on a conversation.
The food was great! Absolutely delicious. The service was not though. We didn’t get anything to mix the sugar into our coffees and I waited so long for the server I finally got up and took a straw from the bar. We went 5-10 minutes at a time without seeing our server, even though the restaurant is small.
You must try the ribs which are their specialty. We actually ordered a second plate of the ribs, they were so good. It is a little pricey . The desserts were okay but definitely worth the trip for the ribs and the spicy mac and cheese.
Nice people, fresh ingredients and unique preparation ended with great taste and value. The ribs are special as are the beet and watermelon salad. Some tasty cocktails as well. Give ‘em a try!
my clients love it for dates; good food and drinks; great service
The ribs were to die for as usual and our bartender Schuyler was the best part of our girls night out.
I booked a reservation here for a few friends and myself to celebrate my birthday. Our reservation was at 11:45am, so it was not too busy and we appeared to be our waiters only table (the space isn't very big). During our entire experience, we kept finding ourselves asking where our waiter was and trying to flag him down to get any type of service. When he first took our drink order, he ignored half the table and walked away. We all eventually got bottomless mimosas/bloody mary's, but even that seemed like a waste considering we were out of our drinks 75% of the brunch with our waiter NO WHERE to be found. Will not be coming here again, nor recommending this place to anyone.
We had brunch with family and very much enjoyed the food and drink at OOLA. We did the bottomless mimosa and bloody marry both of which were delicious. The service was excellent and our server Lisa was friendly and helpful.
I loved the ambiance of the place. It was relaxed and dim light giving off a nice vibe. The
I had the watermelon and beet salad followed by the ribs and cabbage slaw, two of the most recommended dishes. Servers were friendly but food was mediocre. It was a bit of a disappointment.
too many Nats flying around, needs screens on window. But besides that awesome place
I checked in for a 1PM res. And waited 25 mins to be seated. The group in front of us didn’t have a res and they were seated right away. After the wait we were taken upstairs where they had 4 open tables all along. Not a good exp and personally wouldn’t recommend. Our host did comp our appetizer (pop tart with fruits).
Vacation date night! Was perfect!
had a meeting here with a friend coming from east bay so it was a perfect in between spot and we loved it. we met on a week day, so it wasn't crowded, we could take as long as we wanted, but it was also a hip/cool spot without any attitude. we will definitely go back. loved the food too! super tasty, easy, friendly scene. It's a darker restaurant so just be prepared for that.
Had my birthday at Oola this weekend and it was so special and amazing! The server, Philip, was so professional and attentive as well as personable and sweet. The meal was amazing. Definitely one of the best Octopus dishes I've ever had. Thank you Oola for a great birthday dinner !
The service was great but the food was just not good. Everything from appetizers to dinner entrees, to dessert was not executed well.
The food - even though small portioned - was (surprisingly) very good, taste wise (which is what matters). The presentation could be improved. The prices are decent too.
The drinks were really good too. Loved both the cocktails I had
The food was pretty good, however, the service was frustrating. The food server kept forgetting about our table, forgot our order, and got one of our orders wrong. The appetizers arrived at the table before the drinks and the waters. At one point, the bartender and another food server attempted to serve our table.
This was our first time at Oola. What a find — especially on Mother's Day! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner there.
Not only was the food delicious, the service was impeccable. Our server, Philip, was attentive, personable, and humorous. He made us feel right at home and eager to return.
The food came quickly. We enjoyed the ribs, Bolognese, tacos, mac and cheese, and brussels sprouts, which are SO incredible, I wish I'd ordered one just for me!
Thank you for an amazing experience. We will be back!
This brunch borderline ruined Mother’s Day for us. Our waiter forgot(?) our drinks and my wife’s meal. We ended up sharing one meal and our appetizer and left super bummed. We thought the waiter would have the common courtesy to at least comp my wife’s drink after getting it to her after we were done eating and instead went on a rant about him not being familiar “with their new system.” We will never go to this restaurant again. This was absolutely the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant in San Francisco.
Fabulous food & great service. The restaurant looks a lil worn & dated, but still a very hip vibe. I would highly recommend a visit. A hidden gem in a town full of big reputation restaurants- it’s nice to find a small place that’s just as good.
