Our server was attentive. Food was delicious.
We decided on Oveja Negra for my sons Birthday dinner and we were pleasantly surprised. They have a beautiful tented patio with string lights that make the environment inviting and special. We were well attended by the staff and the food was delicious! My son had the Beef Cheeks and he was very pleased. We were grateful for a wonderful evening in the midst of the dining restrictions. At the end of our meal they surprised us with two complimentary desserts that both were delicious. Thank you for making our night special!!
Visiting Hotel Valencia we decided to try Oveja Negra. We were all surprised on how good the food was. Typically hotel restaurants aren't very good (speaking from experience as I travel all the time) honestly I was shocked. The food was full of flavor and great presentation. The beef cheeks were tender and the potatas bravas were great. The roasted cauliflower was a hit as well. The salted caramel pot de creme was outstanding. We saw the Chef as he was speaking with another table, we flagged him down and told him the food is amazing. He was very gracious and spoke to us for a while. I think he worked at a Michael Mina place. It shows he is talented and we will return. I recommend this restaurant highly.
The menu was quite limited, not many options and no non-alcoholic drinks. But the food was amazing. The atmosphere was also nice, but the noise was a bit too loud.
With no heaters it was really cold
We went in the afternoon and didn’t know they only had small bites menu. I recommend they have full menu starting 3pm.
I like the social distance set up for the tables makes me feel comfortable and can enjoy outside dining;) Thank you!
Hello Nicole, Thanks so much for the feedback! We work very hard to follow every Santa Clara County guideline for dining and want our guests to feel comfortable when they dine with us. Our chef just added some new plates that look amazing for this weekend. We hope to see you soon! Cheers, Jonathan
Service is a little disjointed - entrees come before dishes are cleared from appetizers- wine came half way through the meal despite asking.
I love this place but they need to get the service sorted out - the host is always on his phone and walks around texting - the food is great - location great - they just need to get a grip of service.
Thank you for dining with us and providing your feedback. We hope to address these issues and continue to see you dining with us in the future. Please say hello to me the next time you visit! The chef's new seasonal menu is top notch too!
The food was ok, nothing special. Ambiance is quite pleasant.
While the hotel was very careful that we had a reservation and asked us the COVID questions, and we were impressed with the lovely courtyard as we stepped into the restaurant, our service was not great. The server did not know what my drink was, pretty common, the bar tender did not either. To his credit, he came out to ask us how to make it. The drink made for my husband had very little alcohol in it. She did not know what the term sustainable meant for fish. The beef cheeks which are the signature dish are disgusting. The salad would have better if it had not had so much dressing. The shrimp were pretty bland. Before getting us our bill the waitress said “I guess you aren’t getting dessert”, when she had not asked us nor presented us with a menu. By then the lovely setting’s charm could no longer outweigh the service and we were ready to leave. Won’t be back.
Nemours is always a fantastic waiter. Food was superb as always. Sad they had no tomahawk steaks left.
Went for my daughter’s birthday celebration. I thought I choose this restaurant because it was close to where we were staying. We had the cheeseboard which wasn’t very good plus the waiter didn’t even tell us what was on the plate. Next we have the clams The broth was good and she charged us three dollars for bread which I thought was odd. Not sure if I’ll be going back to this restaurant was not impressed
Food was average and not really worth the price. The ambiance was great but there could have been more covid precautions taken, as the tables were not as far apart as shown in the picture. Also there was no attempt to minimize waiter interaction as I’ve seen in other restaurants.
Great patio! Much more civilized that the Santana Row crazy scenery downstairs. Had a fun couples night out.
We had a wonderful experience at Oveja Negra! It is difficult to find a great dining experience during Covid, but this restaurant did a fine job of spacing out tables so no one group was too close to each other. The food was fantastic! We will return!
Descent but limited menu.
Love this place , quiet , classy and great servers !
However - although the servers are great I think they are stretched to serve all the tables they are allocated when busy -
Make it a little classier with a tablecloth and lit candle ( they never light the candles ?)
Food is great !
Drinks are great
Very fair prices -
Need deferent verity of food , for a a beautiful seating and a hotel like this,, I’ll still be back ,,
Beautiful and charming!
Thank you so much for dining with us!
Besides the disappointment with the incredibly meager portion of the jamon appetizer which at one thin slice cut up into smaller pieces and at $25 was more expensive than caviar or Kobe/Wagyu beef, everything else was actually wonderful. We got the seabass as entree with mushrooms and batatas as sides and all those dishes were delicious. The service was a little slow as they were pretty busy and we were hidden in a corner.
Hello TamP, We are happy to hear that your experience was overall a nice one. We well certainly take note of areas for improvement and do our best to work on these. We hope your next visit is perfect! Thank You, Jonathan
I celebrated my late Mom's birthday there last September 17 and everything was perfect! They even gave me a complimentary creme brûlée in her honor. Just excellent!
I miss their poutine though. I hope they bring it back to their menu.
Hello WinnieS, It was nice to see you again! It was touching to meet you and learn that you were honoring your mother. Please feel free to stop by anytime. Kindly, Jonathan
We had a reservation for 6, and we all weren't expecting much since it was a restaurant in a hotel. Usually hotel restaurants have ok tasting dishes, more of a place to hang out with friends and catch up. Well Oveja Negra did not dissappoint. We had the roasted bone marrow, corvina seabass, braised mussels, wild mushrooms, Spanish chorizo, sweet gem salad, and the braised beef (they didn't have the tomahawk steak which was disappointing, since we were celebrating 2 birthdays and 2 anniversaries) Other than that, everything was delicious, and all of us were impressed, our waitress was super nice and the staff was, as well. The standouts were the seabass, the braised beef, and the bone marrow (always a must when ever its on any restaurants menu). Highly recommend this restaurant, it is not on street like the other restaurants were, so it was not as loud. A good place to get away from the crowds and have a nice dinner with a friends or a nice dinner for two.
Hello JesseM, Thank you very much for choosing to celebrate with us. We appreciate the kind feedback and hope to see you again soon! Sincerely, Jonathan
The food was amazing! Great atmosphere on a busy Saturday- you can hear everyone at your table talk and enjoy your conversation. Service was attentive without being annoying.
The mussels were one of my favorite dishes, as were the potatoes. We ordered and loved the burrata, the cheese plate and the peppers. This place is a gem if you’re on a date, with some friends or need a dinner where you won’t be hurried or rushed. Excellent! Will be back soon!
Courtyard dining can't be beat during these times. Outdoor yet hidden. The round table we got seemed a little too big for our family of four which translates to a lot of passing and sliding of plates. I'd probably go back for the ambience, re-order some of the dishes we tried like the patatas bravas, cauliflower, and tomahawk steak. Loved the gambas too although we wish there was some bread of sorts to soak up the sauce. We were not too impressed with the marrow, seabass, and the charcuterie board. Natalie was superb. All in all not bad for my birthday dinner.
Very pleased with the food and experience. The manager also stopped by and was very kind to us. This was our first outing since the quarantine started and felt very safe there. Will definitely have to come back!
Hello Tamer, It was very nice meeting you on Monday. Thank you for dining with us and posting your comments. We hope to see you for your next night out, too! Cheers, Jonathan
Great patio area for less people traffic. I specifically chose this place to avoid the huge crowds on Santana Row.
Great!!
Hello Mars, Thank you for joining us! We hope to see you again soon. Kindly, Jonathan
The outdoor seating in the courtyard is beautiful, with Spanish/Mediterranean style and string lights for a romantic ambiance. The menu has delicious variety of Spanish tapas and entree foods. We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered, and the service was great. Everyone was very warm and on top of it when delivering food or helping with requests. Highly recommend!
Hello Sandy, We really appreciate your patronage and your kind words! Please continue to stop in for dinner. We hope to see you again soon! Kindly, Jonathan
We were guests of the hotel and stopped here for a few tapas and drinks before dinner elsewhere. The ambiance was so nice that I almost wished we would've stayed. The open air courtyard made me feel transported out of San Jose. It was a very romantic setting with the fountains, dim lighting and music. Our server was fine, but wasn't super attentive. This was my first dining experience since March, so I wasn't sure if this was the new norm.
Hello Jena, Thank you for visiting. We hope you visit again for the full dinner experience in the future! Sincerely, Jonathan
Lovely place, but the chicken plate was sooo salty and not good. Ambiance was amazing and so were the drinks but the food was one of the worst :( i am sorry.
Hello MonicB, Thank you for visiting and for your feedback. I will check in with the culinary staff to ensure items are being prepared according to the correct recipe. We hope to see you again as we do have some amazing dishes to go along with our outstanding drinks and ambiance. Kindly, Jonathan
Menu options were very limited. The ambience was great though
Hello PC12, We appreciate your dining with us and feedback. We are working hard to expand the menu for our current variety of 16 Tapas options to include a few more. We have been running some specials to see what will be a good fit for our next menu modification. We hope to see you again soon! Best Regards, Jonathan
By far the best restaurant in Santana Row with a nice ambiance that feels like you're in Europe. Food is delicious. We ordered Gem Salad, Crispy Cauliflower, Beef Cheeks, and all were very tasty. Our sever told us about the Tomahawk Tuesday Special which we will definitely be there since my husband is a big fan of Tomahawk.
Hello Sara, Thank you for dining with us last week! It looks like you ordered three of my personal favorites. For your next visit, I can also recommend the Spanish Chorizo, Gambas, and Patatas Bravas as some other favorites. Hope to see you soon! Cheers, Jonathan
The food was fabulous. Delicious.
The service? Honestly. I felt they continuously forgot we were there. Kinda like an after thought . "Oh yeah, them". The disappointment lies in the fact that upon calling the hotel to inquire about the restaurant, they encouraged me to note on the reservation that it was my husband's 50th birthday celebration and they would make it really special. So I did. Nothing. Wasn't recognized or mentioned at all. That was a disappointment.
Hello Danielle, Thank you so much for visiting. I am thrilled to hear you enjoyed the food, but I am sorry to hear that we missed your anniversary note. I was actually the person you spoke with over the phone and encouraged you to make that note and I want to make it up to you. I will be reaching out directly shortly. Sincerely, Jonathan
Very nice outdoor courtyard. Great service, food is good not great or special.
Hello Todd, Thanks very much for dining with us. We hope to serve you again when we can showcase some new menus items. Kindly, Jonathan
Chef Paul Rohadfox has turned me into a repeat diner at Oveja Negra. His culinary offerings are superb and do not disappoint. Chef Paul’s tapas menu keeps me
Coming back for more. This was our 4th time dining
At the beautiful Valencia Hotel open courtyard where it Does not feel like there are COVID restrictions although all COVID precautions are in place.
Chef Paul’s interpretation of traditional Spanish Tapas is certainly a mouthful of flavor. I have tried every dish amd have been Pleased with each one. I’m not a pepper fan but Chefs Paul’s preparation of the padrón peppers has made me one. Showcasing the flavor of the peppers with lemon olive oil and sea salt has turned me Into one. The braised beef cheeks are our go to as they are prepared with such a sofisticación of flavor and extremely tender. The roasted bone marrow dish was not to rich and had just the right balance of flavor. We were a party of 6 and are all foodies. We literally have had each dish at Oveja Negra and Chef Paul’s consistency of delivering great food, in a beautiful setting is a win situation for us. He has taken the guess work out of trying to find a restaurant that consistently delivers quality.
Bravo Chef Paul see you next time.
So if your reading my review Treat yourself and visit Chef Paul at Oveja Negra you will not be disappointed.
Bravo to Chef Paul and his staff. Job Well Done
Hello, Thank you for joining us for dinner! We are thrilled to hear your group enjoyed the experience. We couldn't agree more that our Executive Chef Paul Rohadfox is a culinary rockstar. Please keep checking in as the menu will change seasonally. We look forward to your next visit! Kindly, Jonathan
Oveja Negra was well worth the cost. The food was amazing, and uniquely delicious. The outdoor dining was more private than is typical, which made it a wonderful location. The service was amazing, and I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to celebrate something special!
Hello MeganM, We really appreciate the kind words! It's been a pleasure to be able to re-open in our nice courtyard and provide our guests with a little sanctuary. We hope you visit again soon. Chef Paul is working on a few new menu items that will be worth checking out. Thanks, Jonathan
Nice ambience for outdoor dining, but have had better (bone marrow dish + cheese/crudites platter) for much less with just as nice of an ambience/atmosphere. It was as if they take advantage that they can charge very steep for some small plates just because they are in Santana Row. But overall experience, give a 4 star for the ambience (seated near heating lamps and fountain) and food was prepared nicely (just over-priced for date night).
Hello BryannaT, Thank you for visiting us for your recent date night. We are honored you would chose us for a night out. We hope you will drop in again in the future! Sincerely, Jonathan
We had a wonderful dinner with a carefully crafted menu. The drinks were wonderful too. They really know the're food/wine combinations. It was a beautiful venue which was quite compared to he bustling downstairs atmosphere. Enjoyed tremendously!
Hello CelesteG, Thank you so much for the kind feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your evening with us. Please feel free to drop by anytime. Thanks, Jonathan
Delicious food with great patio outdoor dining during this COVID-19 pandemic, on the third floor of the Hotel Valencia, courtyard garden view, nice but it can get windy so bring a jacket.
Chef Paul Rohadfox is a new chef coming from Michael Mina restaurants group; talented and the food is 10 times better. Check it out.
Hello 1MandaBear, Thank you so much for dining with us at Oveja Negra! We are also big fans of Chef Paul's culinary skills! We hope to see you again soon. Kindly, Jonathan
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to try out the new menu here… I believe it was launched this month… I love the beef cheeks and the Spanish chorizo was the best! They always have really good cocktails here and the crème brûlée was awesome… Most importantly, I love the atmosphere and especially how well they observed social distancing guidelines. Their entire staff wore masks and kept their distance. Each table was not 6 ft apart, more like 15 ft! Which was awesome! The courtyard is such a great place to dine. Can’t wait to come back, if you’re looking for somewhere to dine safely in Santa Row, doesn’t get much better than this. 🙏🏽👍🏽
